    it'll just be a different name inserted I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Until we open the box, it’s Schrödinger’s ownership group.

    We had the $32 buffet, and wow, was it worth it. Our table of 6 (two kids) had at least a hundred of the coconut shrimp, a couple dozen “chicken lollipops,” and countless burgers, brats, and fries. The waiter kept our pint glasses filled with ice water at all times, and the brownies, cheesecake, and apple pie for dessert were irresistible. Only two in our party had a beer. So even though the Twins were making the Rockies look good, it was a great experience and eating too much was more than enough. I highly recommend the Mountain Ranch Club to anyone visiting Coors Field.

    Twins fans were everywhere, most of them wearing nicer gear than my old, faded TC hat. Rockies fans treated me well, getting nicer as the game went on. One guy actually thanked me for Minnesota fielding a team that even the Rockies could beat. I’m sure they’d welcome us back anytime.

    I’ll be there tonight with friends who are getting us a table in the Mountain Ranch Club in the right field corner. It’s a “ballpark fare buffet,” so if the Twins don’t do well I can eat too much instead of drinking too much.

    Yeah, but it feels better than, “Griffiths and Pohlads: breaking our hearts since 1961.”

    It’s pretty clear they’re not a championship team, so the real question is who, if anyone, are they willing to deal to maybe make the playoffs. I’m hoping the answer is, “Not much,” and that the next big deal we see is a new owner who wants to win.

    Unless you believe in miracles, "within striking distance of a playoff spot" shouldn't be a factor in whether the Twins should be sellers. I don't know anyone who believes this Twins team could go all the way, so all a playoff slot would do is put a little extra money in everyone's pocket before the inevitable disappointment. At this point, it makes more sense to do a strategic trade or two that might actually strengthen the team next year. I usually bitterly oppose trading pitching, but Duran? Sure. Maybe he even gets to pitch for a team that goes all the way. On the other hand, better to keep Willi Castro as the one jack-of-all-trades teams need these days. But the rest? Any deal that could be made to get a reliable, bona fide, every-day starter at pretty much any position in the infield except short would be a big step in the right direction. No more guys journeymen who are adequate at a handful of positions but not good enough to be a regular at any of them. We've see how that works out.

    The, uh, Mississippi Coast? (And that would mean the Twins are a bicoastal team, right? Straddling the old “Father of Waters,” as the Cities do…)

    This is a question that has too many possible answers. What will matter at the trade deadline is who are the buyers, what do they need, and do the Twins have it? All the guys likely to be available are pretty much known and covered in the article, so that’s good to know. Whether any other teams actually need or want any of them for what the Twins might be asking for any of them is a total crapshoot.

    So it was a good thing Royce Lewis wasn’t going a hundred percent when he came back from his preseason hamstring injury last month, but it didn’t keep him from getting injured again. What’s the plan when he gets back to the Twins this time? With his history of ACL tears, hamstring, quadriceps, and other strains, is he ever going to be able to go all out on the field? If he comes out cautious—either consciously or unconsciously—exactly what will his role be?

    Buxton, Ryan, Duran, as noted above. And Buxton first because, as we’ve seen, excellent pitching means little without consistent offense and solid defense. In those areas, Buxton is pretty much trying to carry the team right now.

    We’re fine, we’re still here, still loyal fans, still hanging onto that glimmer of hope. It’s our favorite team that’s bad, mismanaged, and likely cursed. Let’s hope something (ownership) changes with them, sooner rather than later.

    We all know what they call it when you keep doing the same thing, over and over, and expect different results. Anyone remember “The Peter Principle”?

    LOL! Like any of us have “real proof” when we start tossing around our opinions! We both know my scenario is never going to happen—it’s the frustration speaking from a lifetime of being a Twins fan. Until and unless they get an owner or owners who actually want to win championships, we’ll continue to be cheering teams that specialize in building a roster from cast-off journeymen, triple-A wannabes, and a couple of stars who too often are sitting on the IL. (And to save you any further consternation, my post about having ChatGPT and an iPad run the team wasn’t serious either. It’s called using overstatement for to make a point.)

    Why not? Clear the decks and get ready for the future. Give the prospects a chance to face major league competition and find out who’s really able to play at that level every day. At the very least, they’d play like they have something to prove. And meanwhile, get something tangible for the future in return for guys who are playing well and have some value now. Things change fast for players. If the Twins wait too long, their value is more likely to decline than rise.

    Deal them all, fill the gaps with Saints, and hunker down until the Pohlads sell the team. At this point, the results wouldn’t be too much different and we could cheer them on as they race the White Sox to the bottom.

    He’s spent so little time on the field in recent years that few outside of Minnesota pay any attention to him anymore. Those who do pay attention probably want to vote for someone they’re confident will be there, not on the IL. And all of that is a shame because he’s unquestionably having an all-star year.

    It’s working so well, so I guess do whatever the iPad in the dugout says to do.

    Then too much of that money has gone into guys who aren’t able to stay healthy or don’t deliver on their promise. Because we’re sure not seeing the results on the field.

    I think a lot of teams forget that baseball is an entertainment industry at its core. The Pohlad philosophy has long been to assemble a team that is competitive enough to make a modest profit—a small handful of stars and the rest adequate. There’s no incentive for them to use every tool in the box or spend the time working on fundamentals. Just keep the payroll low enough to make a profit on a moderately entertaining team.

    Why even have a manager if all you do is follow the analytics? Just feed the numbers into ChatGPT or Grok and let the artificial intelligence run things.

    A while ago it was why the Twins should trade pitching. Good thing they didn't. Now it's why the Twins should trade outfielders--current or prospects--for pitching. Good thing they didn't trade those pitchers before. What about maybe not looking to trade anyone unless there's a really good reason or a really good deal to be had? No sense trading away someone they might need later for the sake of making a deal. (And hey, great, now they have another surplus outfielder in a who-cares? deal for Alcala. I'm guessing that won't calm the zeal that seems to be bubbling up for making a trade, any trade.)

    “…two serious concerns. First, should a potentially outgoing front office be allowed to make win-now trades that mortgage the future? And second, could that same front office be tempted to prioritize short-term results in a bid to protect their own jobs?” And maybe a third: “Would adding a couple of key pieces to the current roster to take them deeper into the playoffs make the team more attractive to a potential buyer?”

    With the miracle of both Buxton and Correa out there again, Wallner back, and guys like Castro and France stepping up, I’m good with hanging onto the pitching and waiting to see what happens, offense-wise. Maybe someone could wake up Lewis, though. The sleepwalking isn’t working.
