    The Royals locked Whitt up last winter. I believe for 10 years. Torkelson so far is pretty much proving to be a bust. But who knows he's still young.

    The only team in the division with a higher payroll than the the Twins in 24 was the White Sox. It isn't how much money you spend it is how you spend your money. Scouting and player development is more vital to an organization than going out throwing big bucks at aging free agents for small and mid market teams . With declining revenues, mid market teams cannot keep up with the big boys. Revenue sharing and the salary cap sure has made the NFL a more interesting league. I for one prefer local ownership like the Pohlads. Call them cheap if you want, but other mid market teams are cutting payroll this year too. The writing is on the wall. Revenue is declining. Costs have to be cut somewhere. I do not want to see the sport taken over by out of state hedge fund owners and multi billionaires. Who only use the team as an ego boost, that dump the team when they get tired of their toy and leave a team piled in debt and huge contracts. Players also have to face the fact that $300-500 million contracts are a joke, They are going to kill the sport.

    People call the Pohlads cheap, but I like the path the organization is on, putting resources into developing talent within the organization and resisting going after 30 something big dollar free agents. I hope the new owner(s) stay on this track. The next step is to get these players to live up to their potential once they hit the big team. So far they have regressed once they have... would a change of managerial philosophy help? The Pohlads have put money into the organization, just just like any boss they need their employees to do their jobs

    Yeah everybody that has been calling the Pohlads cheap. Time to put your money where your mouth is and pony up. Find out the reality owning a baseball team. Form a Co-op and buy the team and show us how it's done.

    KC, Cleveland and Detroit all spent less money on payroll than the Twins. It is not how much money you spend it is how you spend your money. If the Pohlads were trying to make a bundle of money, they would have sold the Twins and invested the money in other areas. The Pohlads expected that the Twins management would do their jobs and develop players and the players would do their jobs. The players did not live up to expectations and management let them play sloppy baseball. . The Twins payroll is 47% of team income, which I believe is 6th in baseball. the Yankees are at 46% of their income. So tired of the Cheap Pohlad thing. It is easy to spend other peoples money. They did sign Correa to a big deal and that deal is going to be the biggest mistake in franchise history.. They now have him eating up a 1/4 of their payroll for the next 4 years as probably a part time player. So just going out and signing free agents don't work. How did those dead line deals work out a couple of years ago? They dealt away several top prospects and what did they get? Who can blame the Pohlads for saying enough is enough, you get this much money, You've got top prospects develop them. So many of these players come looking like future HOFers and within a couple of months look like little leagers, the man problem with the Pohlads is they are too loyal.

    Ownership and the front office has to bite the bullet and write off at least part of the Correa contract .as a mistake or they will strangle the franchise for the next four years. The Twins can't afford to have nearly a quarter of its patroll tied up on one player for 4 more years. As the young players develop they are going to need to be signed for more money and if the payroll is kept at current levels there will be no money to do that.

    Paddack and Castro have trade value, . Castro showed lots of signs of slipping the second half of last year, now is the time to deal him. At $7.5 million Paddack, there should be teams willing to roll the dice on him as a back end starter. Festa is ready to step in for Paddack, With more prospects in St Paul in the event of injury. They can still dangle Vasquez, a defensive catcher for a young pitching is always valuable.

    2011 for sure, that was a veteran team that were in their prime and began their decline, This years team was a bunch of young players that failed to take the next step after a year of over achieving. Hopefully they learned a lot this year and with some reinforcements from the farm and a couple of key signings for the bullpen. Hopefully they will come together over the next couple of years. I think the talent is there, Coaching needs to get this guys to focus on the fundamentals.

    Hind site is good site. How many years have the Padres thrown money, big money out the window and prospects away for players and it has blown up in their faces. The Padres may be hot now, but I'll bet they fold easily in the playoffs. The Twins traded a couple of years ago for Mahle and Lopez and look how that worked out. At the time those both looked like decent deals. But when they blew up the wanna be GM's sure were not shy about jumping all over the front office about what terrible deals they were and the stupidy of the Twins front office. From the rumors I heard about what other teams wanted from the Twins for some very mediocre talent I don't blame the Twins for staying the course and hoping the players they had would get healthy and pull them through.

    Ober is pitching just as good if not better than Lopez. With exception of the Braves game he has pitched good enough to have won all his second half starts. He seems to be relegated to the place Jim Kaat was on the 60's Twins pitching staffs, always the bridesmaid to the Pascual's, Grant's, Chance's etc.

    At the very least send Festa to St Paul and keep him stretched out as a starter in the event on of the 5 starters goes down. He is too valuable to waste in the pen.

    Leave Festa in the rotation and strengthen the bullpen.. I wouldn't count on Varland, Topa or Lewis. try and sign a legitimate closer to push Duran. If they do go after another starter, go after a lefty. It has been ages since they have had a good lefty starter.

    Baldelli has lost this team, he lost hem when he passed the buck on Duran for blowing the lead against KC Saturday Night. Once again he refused to accept any of the blame for making a bad decision in that situation, Duran accepted the blame and felt remorseful Saturday night, and Baldelli put all on him. then Sunday he blows up on his team, what a class act. I have never seen a manager that never takes the blame for anything that happens on the field the way this guy does. Baldelli has to go.

    Sounds like Baldelli has totally lost the team.

    No matter how much he got booed, how bad he was doing Sano was always at the top of the dug out steps cheering his teammates on. He usually always the first one on the field when another teammate did good. Yeah his career crashed and burned but I never heard of him complaining about it. Lewis has spent half the season on the IL and he is complaining that he is worn out?

    In other words he is not a "gamer" Play me where I want to play or I will whine about it. He has played half a season and he is worn out? Come on! I am really starting to dislike this guy. One thing I always liked about Miguel Sano and he never got credit for and I am sure it hurt his career, was that he always agreed to switch positions to help the team out. He moved from 3rd to left, to 3rd, to 1st. But the fans were always on him because he was not good at his position, especially 1st base. But I never heard him complain once. Now we get cry baby Lewis.

    Baldelli 's handling of the pitching staff is surely enough to cost him his job. But last nights was probably the worst move since I have seen since Kevin Cash took Blake Snell out of that WS game against the Dodgers in 2020. You could just see new life pumped back into the Royals. Analytics be damned Ober was totally dominating them, let good enough alone. Duran has not been effective when coming in non save situations. Something also has to be done about the teaching basics of the game to the young players on this team. They look worse than a bunch of little leaguers. A manager in todays game needs to use anayltics I agree. But they also need to use their gut instincts and manage the old way too. that wasn't all bad. The Twins need a new manager and they need a new system for teaching the basics of the game for the players as they come through the system. Their devlopment of pitching seems to be on track right now, they need to do the same for the hitters and fielders

    Truth is I don't think the Twins have ever really had a really good manager. Gardenhire should have accomplished so much more with the teams he had. I heard him comment that he did not believe at all in modern managerial concepts.. Baldelli is the total opposite. The managers that have won the last couple of WS (Baker and Bochy) use a mix of both. Which just makes sense. It appeared that Baldelli was drifting that way for while, but lately is seems he has gone back to the computer too much. Kelly was to much of a you got to do it my way guy and drove off some really good players, instead of letting them be themselves.

    What do you think they Twins could get by trading Kiriloff and Julien now? Their trade value is about as low as Miranda's was last year at this time.
