IF I were the GM I would just sit back and see what offers came in for Lopez and Ryan. If I got bowled over by an offer and it helped the team... well then I surely would have to consider making a trade. Ryan is a year away from his walk year so now is the time to move or sign him. Don't get caught in the walk year have to trade him like they did with Santana. I remember Sid reporting back in day that the Dodgers had offered a couple of young minor leaguers for Johan in the year before his walk year. One of those players was this pitcher named Kershaw.

How the Twins Can Win by Outdeveloping, Not Outspending
Rufus replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Finally a realistic article on how the Twins can compete. Not one grading them on their pay scale. Like I have said time and time again, "It is not how much money you spend, it is how you spend your money". -
Pressley was floundering with the Twins. He was basically a Jorge Alcala type good stuff, too many home runs. The Astors changed some things with him and he became a shutdown receiver. He probably would never had developed with the Twins.

Let's see I remember the Twins had this guy a big prospect......his name was.......SANO. He was a shortstop when signed, obviously got too big for that position, The Twins moved him to third base, then to right field, then to third base, then to first base. I never heard anyone or Sano complain that he was mishandled.

Miranda was not mismanaged he blew it. The old adage "The hardest thing there is to make it to the major leagues, the second hardest thing is to stay there" Miranda and Julien were sent to St. Paul at the beginning of last season and Miranda proceeded to hit less than .200 the rest of the season in Triple A. They should waste a roster spot on him? Julien at least improved his numbers in St. Paul and was given another shot with the Twins. It again did not work out. But I feel both of these players were treated fairly.

After Francona left following the 23 season Cleveland went from a team that was founding in the Central division to one that won it in 24 and staged a historic comeback to overpack the Tigers last season. No they didn't win a World Series. they don't have good enough players to do that, but the improvement after the managerial change is undeniable. Is Vote a better manger than Francona? I doubt it...But sometimes a change at the top and a way at looking at things helps. People do get stagnant in their jobs.

It sure would be nice to read a positive article once in a while. Why wouldn't a player want to come here? Wouldn't it be better than going to Tampa or Sacramento and playing in minor league facilities? How about Colorado or Florida or the White Sox they sure are in disarray. Then there is Pittsburgh who released Rowdy Tellez 4 plate appearances short of enough a bats to get a $200,000 bonus. MN is not and never will be at the top of free agents lists, no matter how much money the owners spend. But there are sure worse places and situations for a player to choose.

BREAKING: Twins to Hire Derek Shelton as Manager for 2026
Rufus replied to knothole61's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He was hired as a bench coach by Molitor, maybe his experience working with both (Molitor's old style, Baldelli's computer style will be an asset) He was also a long time hitting coach. Falvey has done a nice job finding pitching. What the organization needs is someone that is good at developing the other side of the game. If Shelton can improve the hitting and get a bench coach that is good with fundamentals, base running and defense it might be just the balance the Twins need- 250 replies

Source: Pohlad Family Reduced Payroll to End Racism
Rufus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
still it didn't happen and the Twins are still here. Bottom line wheather or not he tried to get rid of them, he saved them in 84. what happened in 2002 would not have happened if he had not done that. -

Rufus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
the Pohlads are not the perfect owners..BUT remember if Carl had not stepped up back in the 80's there would probably not be any MN Twins now. MN could have owners like the Rockies or the A's. -
I just hope they hire a guy that embraces the new game, but knows and embraces the old game too. Last nights Brewers/Dodgers games brought back memories of the Dodgers/Rays World Series. Snell was dominate in that game too and the Rays manager pulled him because the computer said to. Remember how that went? Just about had the same results last night.

Pohlads Preach Patience While Fans Question Commitment
Rufus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Check out the Pirates owner. their payroll is $87 million. He had Rowdy Tellez released when he was 4 at bats short of a $200,000 bonus. The Pohlads would never do that sort of crap -
Pohlads Preach Patience While Fans Question Commitment
Rufus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They could triple their payroll and it wouldn't be equal to this years Twins payroll. But it isn't about payroll it is about how the franchise is run... you think the Pohlads are bad do some research on what the A's ownership has done -
Relax you could be an Athletics, Marlins, Pirates fan or lord forbid following everyone's example of what it takes to be a winning team a (gasp) Mets fan. Yup the Mets they have the second highest payroll in baseball. Their owner throws money around like confetti in a ticker tape parade. Cleveland and Milwaukee have lower payroll than the Twins but are both in the playoffs. The ridiculous idea that a teams success is based on how much their payroll is mystifies me. The idea that the Twins should be graded on payroll is outright stupid. Going out and throwing money at 30 something ego laden free agents seldom works (ask the Mets). The true super stars are not coming to mid market teams and the rest of the pack can usually be replaced by upcoming players A good farm system feeder program and free agents like the Twins signed this year. Franz, Colombe, Badar cost them minimum dollars and they were able to flip them for some top prospects. It isn't how much money you spend it's how you spend your money.

BREAKING: Twins Dismiss Manager Rocco Baldelli
Rufus replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Guardians parted with one of the best managers of all time. A certain HOFer two years ago. His replacement was manager of the year last year and has to be a strong candidate to repeat this year. Francona was hired by the Reds this year and they are in the playoffs for the first time in how many years? The Twins were under .500 in 2018 and won 101 games the following year, They followed that up with another division winner in 2020. Baldelli was manager of the year in '19. It might not be that the manager is bad, a change of philosophy and perspective can be just what a team needs. I know in my working years, I had many changes in managers, some were good and some were bad. But each time it definitely shook up the work place -
The Twins have never really had great manager. I'd list Billy Martin and Gene Mauch among the best. Gardenhire was a joke, How the teams he had never won or at least got to a WS incredible. Kelly won two WS but that was more being in the right place at the right time. Look at his record after 91.
