  1. You want the manager to bunt in the first inning?
  2. Well, I'm pretty sure Vanimal lives in Texas, so no, his vote doesn't count. In 20 years, perhaps, but not now. That's the problem I have with the Electoral College. Vanimal has a constitutional right to vote, but because he doesn't live in a swing state, his vote is effectively meaningless.
  3. I think that should be reserved for Green Bay.
  4. That's not really fair though. Unless you're going to go back at the end of the season and also give him credit as hits the times he hits a rocket right at someone. Those and the gift hits even out over the season. The important thing is 1 K in 6 at bats. In what way does he look lost?
  5. A first time manager only gets one mulligan? Yikes. There is going to be a learning curve folks, he's going to make plenty of mistakes the first few weeks. Remember last year when Gabe Kepler's own players were calling him out early last season? Smart people eventually figure it out, and I think Baldelli will, but he's going to need a lot more than one mulligan in the meantime.
  6. I agree. I just think, based on statistical comparison to other catchers, that calling his bat "miserable" or "a liability" isn't fair analysis. I realize you didn't say that, but you quoted my post responding to those terms.
  7. Sure, but I was responding to a post claiming that he doesn't do his job in that specific situation. It may be a small sample size, but it's the entire sample size for his career in that specific situation.
  8. Maybe, but I'm not sure why anyone would even offer a milb deal. If you are going to bother stashing an insurance DH (yes, I know he technically can play 1B, but he shouldn't) at AAA, you'd better be sure he can actually mash. Maybe a little unusual, but he'll turn 32 during the season, and he didn't have enough of a track record to get the benefit of the doubt for last year. With DH guys like CJ Cron and (potentially later) Tyler Austin available on waivers, why bother with a 32 year old who looked completely cooked last year.
  9. Even if it's a few ticks below league average for starters, it's still not even close to low enough to be classified as "miserable" or "a liability". I guess some fans would rather we just put Nelson Cruz back there? Outside of a handful at a time in the league, catchers don't hit.
  10. His career OPS with a runner at 3rd base and less than 2 outs is .913, higher than any other bases occupied/unoccupied situation. He's driven in 78 runs in 132 such opportunities. Without taking the time to look at a large sample size of players, that seems like a pretty good success rate.
  11. No, he didn't. I'd imagine it's quite possible his career is over. Can't imagine anyone would have interest in a 31 year old DH coming off a 73 OPS+ season.
  12. A .695-ish OPS is neither miserable, nor a liability for a catcher. It's right around league average.
  13. The Twins have probably dealt with a brutal amount of injuries if Astudillo gets 503 AB's.
  14. Why on earth would a DH need days off? I mean, maybe in the middle of 20 straight, just to reset mentally. But, there are plenty of built in off days early in the season.
  15. All charges against Smollett dropped. Another example of rich people getting away with whatever they want.
  16. Why can't he be the starting 3B most days, and also slide over to 2B or SS once a week when Polanco or Schoop need a day off?
  17. Or it could work out great for the team, as it did with the Rays and Evan Longoria.
  18. Income tax is paid in the state where the work is performed, not where the worker lives. He pays the same income tax whether he lives in California, New Jersey, or Mars.
  19. Ben is using misleading numbers. Those opening day salaries are for the 25 man roster, while the end of year salaries are for the entire 40 man roster.
  20. I wish. Jeff Fisher at least made it to a Super Bowl, and with a far less talented roster.
  21. Again, how can he drive people in, if nobody is on base when he comes to bat? Last year, he had 377 PA's with the bases empty. He had 163 with men on, but he was intentionally walked in 24 of those, so 139 times he had a chance to drive someone else in. That means he only had runners on base in 26.9% of his net plate appearances. Here was Trout's batting line with men on: .325/.504/.632(1.136) Let's compare that with RBI leader JD Martinez. Martinez had 332 PA's with the bases empty. He had 317 with men on base. He was intentionally walked 11 of those times, for a net of 306. That means he had runners on base in 48% of his plate appearances. Again, Trout 27%, Martinez 48%. Martinez hit .352/.438/.670 (1.108). Both players had similar batting lines, one guy had 167 more chances than the other guy. So how is it Trout's fault that he doesn't get the opportunities that other guys get?
  22. Are there any studies showing correlation between ST stats and the following regular season? Better to be good than bad, I guess. But I don't think it has any relevance whatsoever on what is to come in the regular season. Luke Hughes would be a hall of famer if it did.
  23. Not sure if serious. It's somehow Trout's fault that nobody is on base ahead of him? BTW, his career slugging percentage is 20 points higher with RISP than it is with the bases empty, so is his batting average.
  24. Well you responded to a post about meals, not pay. So no, it wasn't obvious.
