  1. But then you're doubling the amount of time your bullpen is short. Instead of being short smile Smeltzer rests, you are short that time plus the 4 days while Perez can't pitch after his start on Saturday.
  2. Thanks for that. I think people tend to overestimate how much one guy can help a team, let alone one relief pitcher. Even an 8 WAR player like Mike Trout wins you one extra game per 20. A great relief pitcher is closer to one every 50 games. That's not to say you shouldn't add help, you absolutely should.
  3. He really just had 2 bad appearances to start. Since those first 2 appearances: 6 IP 9 K 4 BB 1 H 0 R
  4. We can also look at the fact that trades well in advance of the deadline are quite rare. This alone tells me that teams are generally asking way too much in advance of the deadline. And that makes sense. You don't know what your team will like in 6 weeks or 3 weeks. You could go on a tear and get back into the playoff hunt, like the Giants have. If you (as a seller), are going to forfeit that opportunity by trading your good players, you have to demand a premium for that.
  5. True, but there is also no longer an avenue for the seller to get something for an expiring contract. I can't speak for your experiences at the grocery store, but in mine, when products approach their expiration date, the price is dropped, not raised.
  6. His ranking is based on his tools, and being the 13th overall draft pick. His first 46 plate appearances in the GCL have zero relevance.
  7. Different people can handle different things. Some people can run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. The human body can be very resilient. Sometimes it breaks down, we'll see. For now, I'm not concerned, and I'm not ready to say his pattern of use isn't sustainable. He's not showing any signs of wearing down yet.
  8. It's more of a fun stat to see who impacted one specific game the most.
  9. I'm sure every coach Rosario has ever had, including Baldelli, has told him to cut that out. If a MLB veteran doesn't know to catch the ball with two hands by now, that's not on his current manager. That's 100% on Rosario.
  10. Correct, and I enjoyed the article. Perhaps prediction was the wrong word. A poster ripping the FO for a pitching staff that literally doesn't exist yet is embarrassing. Comments like those, as well as posters regularly ripping Baldelli for plays that he has zero control over, to calls for borderline elite players to be DFA'D every time they make a mistake, to dozens of other absurd posts that are starting to happen on a daily basis, it's getting to the point where Rube Chat was when I finally could no longer stomach it. Sorry to hijack your article. If this post needs to be deleted, so be it.
  11. Unless we use actual results and stats, in which case the pitching staff has improved significantly, even if it still needs improvement. They currently have the 5th best team ERA in baseball. How is that not improvement over the bottom 5 pitching staff they inherited?
  12. If May hasn't figured it out by age 30, he likely never will. I don't know why he continues to throw curveballs down the heart of the plate when he's up 0-2, but the fact is that he continues to do so. If he didn't learn his lesson by now, he likely never will. There is simply no excuse whatsoever for attempting that pitch once, let alone twice in back to back appearances.
  13. So now we're ripping the FO not for decisions they've made, but for meaningless predictions that a writer has made? This place is quickly becoming Rube Chat.
  14. That's kinda funny because in the game thread everyone was complaining that Perez was pitching like crap and getting lucky, and what was Baldelli waiting for to take him out.
  15. I think the belief, by some, is that Kirilloff can be better than just a "good hitter".
  16. His ability to put up first half numbers has never been a problem. I want to see how he does in the second half.
  17. Good point. The silver lining is that Arraez has surpassed them all, and SSS withstanding, looks like he might be an above average mlb starter.
  18. No, if the intent was that you aren't allowed to go over, then it would be a hard cap, like the NFL salary cap.
  19. It's not a hard cap. It's akin to the HOV lane, you just have to pay a small fee and you can use it.
