  1. If they aren't as good as Kimbrel, we wouldn't need to give up top prospects. Also, trade capital is one of the reasons to have a deep farm system. There is no shame in using them to improve your ballclub.
  2. I don't understand how this conflicts with the integrity of the game? Teams and players have made adjustments since baseball started, how is this different? Was the increased emphasis on base stealing from the late 70's through the early 90's an encroachment on the integrity of the game? Does anyone look back at Brock, Coleman, and Henderson's historically disproportionate stolen base numbers with some sort of asterisk?
  3. OPS against still relies on things outside of the pitchers control. Balls that Buxton get too routinely are doubles against some centerfielders.
  4. I believe Forsythe was only included in that deal for the Dodgers to stay under the luxury tax. The Twins don't have to worry about that. They aren't trading their starting second baseman at the deadline.
  5. This doesn't make any sense. If Cleveland decides to sell, it's not going to be for a veteran on an expiring contract.
  6. Sounds like confirmation bias to me. Every major league hitter looks baffled by a pitch or two every game. One of my favorite things about baseball is that the numbers most often do tell the story, especially on the hitting side. There is no such thing as an empty 1.000 OPS. Nor is hitting mlb pitching so easy that one can just luck into those numbers, or only achieve them by only hitting mistakes.
  7. Molitor was let go for a lot of reasons. And I notice that we haven't heard much from those that ripped the firing, now that Baldelli has us in first place by a mile.
  8. And then let's all pick them back up off the ground and go find that dude that bunted to break up a no hitter.
  9. It's not a documentary, and isn't presented as if it's a documentary.
  10. Each team has a bonus pool allotment. That is the maximum that they are allowed to spend signing draft picks. The Twins will spend their entire draft pool allotment, how is that being cheap? They may not allocate the money to the player that you want them to, but they are still spending it.
  11. I'm pretty psyched about this guy. Defintely high risk that he'll swing and miss too much, like Adam Brett Walker, but hey, go big or go home.
  12. They happen for a specific reason though, all of them. Even if we, or the player or even a doctor can't figure out why, it's not just pure randomness.
  13. If you spend less than your allotted pool, intentionally, that is "savings". Again, I don't personally think anyone would do that, I was just responding to a couple posters who suggested it's not allowed. As far as I know, there is no such rule, as it would be not just difficult, but 100% impossible to enforce.
  14. I think as much, or more concern than injury, is that he isn't going to be able to control the running game with that delivery.
  15. Fouling a ball off your foot and breaking your toe is bad luck. The vast majority of baseball injuries have nothing to do with luck. They are caused by something that player is doing, even if it's hard to tell what exactly that cause is.
  16. Again, I understand that completely. A couple of other posters are suggesting that money can't be spent on anything. Also, nobody suggested not signing a pick. The suggestion was signing everyone under slot.
  17. Yes, I know. That isn't my argument. None of that is. Someone suggested that a team could spend less than their max and use the rest in free agency. Two posters are claiming that is illegal. I agree with you that no team would do that, but they are certainly allowed to if they wanted to.
  18. Earlier you said they can't spend that savings on other things. Now you say you don't know. Why would I call Falvey about a rule that I'm quite sure doesn't exist?
  19. Yes, I understand that. A couple of posters are claiming that a team is not allowed to spend draft pick savings on a free agent.
  20. If there is no fine, then how are they prevented from using any money not spent?
  21. Draft pool money is not given to them by the league. It just designates how much each team is allowed to spend on draft pick bonuses. There is literally no possible way for the league to know what is done with the money that wasn't spent on draft picks. I'm not suggesting the Twins will do that, they'll spend their allotted pool. But there is nothing that would (or could) prevent them from doing it if they decided they wanted to.
  22. I don't understand. The league fines them the difference if they don't spend their entire pool? I've never heard that before.
  23. Josh Wolf is an arm that intrigues me if he's there at 39.
