  1. They are only $9 million below last year, apples to apples. The $24 million you are citing are two different numbers, 25 man versus 40 man payrolls.
  2. Always possible. But, in light of the fact that they were able to get deals done with Polanco and Kepler, I'm operating under the assumption that they were negotiating in good faith.
  3. I'm not throwing out any months though. I'm using the assumption that he was healthy when he was on the field. Unless you have explicit evidence that the team, the medical staff, and himself all allowed him to pitch while injured.
  4. On which date was he injured? Or are you just assuming that he only started to pitch poorly after the injury? Or are you saying that there was a snippet of the season that he was good, which technically came before the injury?
  5. Nearly every player looks good if you throw out their bad months and only count their good months.
  6. It doesn't seem like Berrios is interested in an extension, based on reports during the offseason.
  7. Why would you want your 12th best player playing as often as your best player? The only way your plan maximizes assets is if all 12 players are hypothetically exactly as good as each other, which isn't realistic.
  8. No need to get so creative. We have a starting first baseman just barely scraping replacement level.
  9. CJ Cron's batting line would be bad for a utility infielder. For a starting first baseman, it's terrible.
  10. It's already late enough to gain a 7th year of team control. Waiting until a week into June would avoid Super 2 status.
  11. Javier is the Twins #4 prospect, per mlb pipeline. Prospects like that are never available in the Rule V draft. He'd be a lock to go #1 overall, IMO.
  12. I'll be surprised if Kirilloff comes up before September, though I'd love to be wrong.
  13. Gonzalez has been the everyday 3B all season. He hasn't really been available to play anywhere else. If they are that concerned about Marwin's SS defense, they can bring in/up a different solid glove, zero bat SS if Polanco gets hurt. Perhaps they think Adrianza's bat is still developing. If so, then sure, they'll hang on to him. I don't know how they evaluate him. If not, he's very replaceable. Plenty of capable defenders can OPS .600 for you.
  14. The well run and well managed Astros trusted Marwin enough at SS to put him there 301 times. Sano coming back will free up Gonzalez to back up SS when needed.
  15. Adrianza isn't an everyday SS either. That's my point. I'm not saying an everyday SS is easy to find, they aren't. I'm saying Adrianza isn't one either. If you lose him and Polanco gets hurt, you plug in a different replacement level SS, and you're no worse than you were with Adrianza. Adrianza is fine defensively, but let's not pretend he's some irreplaceable wizard out there. He's just solid, with very little bat.
  16. Nobody should be comfortable with Adrianza playing everyday if Polanco has an IL stint, so I'm not sure why that hypothetical is the barometer for keeping him. He happens to be the replacement level player that is currently on the roster, but any replacement level player will do just as well.
  17. Joe Mauer, Buster Posey, Sal Perez all had milb seasons over 60%. Yadier Molina caught 77% of games over his milb career. I think most milb catchers don't catch 60%+ because there aren't very many legit catching prospects. The few legit ones I looked up were all over 60%, with Posey and Molina being well over 70%.
  18. Is that new? Because Joe Mauer caught over 70% of the games in 2003, between A and AA. Buster Posey caught 74% in 2009, then went and caught 13 more in the AFL. Sal Perez caught 61% (plus AFL) and 64% his final 2 milb seasons. Yadier Molina caught a total of 77% of games during his 2+ years in milb before debuting. Is this really a policy? Or is it just happenstance of teams not typically having legit catching prospects at every level?
  19. Harmon Killabrew. Griffey jr. lost .280 points his final season.
  20. He's being paid $8 million. That is 4th or 5th starter money for a FA.
  21. I've been super busy the last two days, so I apologize if this has been addressed. Is Buxton nursing an injury or illness or something? Benched, off day, start, benched. One start in 4 days, is there a reason?
  22. Of all the issues I had with Dozier, his desire and passion for the game were never even remotely in doubt.
  23. How would he be forced to come here? He had a no full trade clause. Which he wasn't waiving to come here.
