    The keyword in post was "relatively" unskilled. As in relative to other jobs that pay $50 an hour. I can't imagine that MLB teams have any shortage of well qualified people who would love to earn that much in a side job that involves watching baseball for money.

    Rosters are expanded at that point. Anyone on the 40 man roster can be active.

    Minor point. He's going to get a hit a lot more than 25% of the time on a 3-0 count, especially when he knows a bp meatball is coming down the middle of the plate. His career sample size on 3-0 is too small to cite, but he's a career .378 hitter when ahead in the count. In that situation it's going to be a hit probably 60+ % of the time.

    His 6th inning ERA this year is 3.00 (4 ER/12IP). His worst inning is actually the 1st inning, and by a lot. (5.16)

    So many head scratching details in that article. Here is one that particularly stands out to me: "Francona brushed it off as no big deal, saying that his mind had been wrapped around devising ways for the Red Sox to come back in the final frame and that he hadn’t even noticed." So, the opposing manager is devising a way to come back and win the game, but the other team isn't supposed to attempt to expand the lead? This is baffling logic to me. That article didn't make anything clearer to me. It's chock full of contradictory logic, such as the notion that taking a pitch is supposed to expedite the finish of the game. Really, the only thing that article did for me is leave me with an absolute disgust for Ron Gardenhire. Reading this completely explains why his teams had zero success in the playoffs. While Terry Francona is focused on scratching and clawing at any opening to come back and win the game, Gardenhire is dragging his young player to a back alley meeting with the opposing manager to apologize for having the audacity to try to play aggressive baseball.

    I don't understand what the count has to do with any of it. Is the team allowed to continue to compete, or not? I can't comprehend why they are allowed to continue to compete if the count is 2-2, but not if it's 3-0.

    Do you know if the new regime is as married to the arbitrary year over year innings increase limit as the old regime was? It will be interesting to see how they handle him next season, if he looks MLB ready in September, but has an innings limit next year.

    Okay... but the team is capable of being wrong, so I don't see how that is relevant to the discussion. The Twins let Nick Anderson get away without giving him a shot. I can play that game too.

    Why not? Adrianza has 60 points higher of OPS, and is the better fielder.

    Miami got back the #58 prospect in return for Gallen. If they weren't picky about position, then Graterol would have been comparable (#57). However, if they were looking to get a position player back, only Lewis or Kirilloff would likely be enough to top what they got.

    He's the only one who can do it successfully often enough to justify the risk. Teams are realizing that making outs on the bases is really bad strategy. It's not just the Twins. Stolen bases are way down across the league.

    Sure. And, there will always be outliers, but since both teams play 162 games, against nearly identical schedules, and all teams deal with injuries, I'd expect that to balance out the vast majority of the time.

    I mean, if you're going to go down that road, how do you justify ordering pizza to begin with? A person could cook more food for less money if they did it from scratch. When you order a pizza from a restaurant, you're paying extra for the convenience of having someone else do the shopping, and the preparation, and the cooking. How is that any different than paying extra for the convenience of not having to drive to the restaurant and back? I'm certainly not knocking the practice of skipping the delivery, I sometimes will do that as well, but I don't see a distinguishable difference that "justifies" the extra cost of the prepared pizza, but not the delivery.

    It's a long season. All the games count. Whatever he ends the season with will be what his performance was, regardless of when on the calendar they took place. As far as him never being this good before, sure, that's why a QO is a much better deal for the Twins than a multi year deal. The budget shouldn't start to get really tight until 2021, so see if he can prove this is the new norm next year. Plenty of pitchers that you've advocated for the Twins to pursue have been guys that figured it out along the way.

    The Twins and Indians are in the same division. There is no horrendous imbalance in competition. They play nearly identical schedules.

    When you hit the most homeruns in baseball, risking an out on the bases is foolish. A HR scores a runner from any base.

    Not only that, but Baldelli showed no sense of urgency, or desire to keep the accelerator down. Many good posters questioned his strategy of giving frequent off days to some of our best players all the time. When the lead got to 3 or 4, I stated that was a nice luxury when they were up 11 games, but at some point you have to start running your best 9 guys out there everyday. Garver barely plays half the games, I have no idea why. If they lose the division by a game or two, I think it'll be perfectly fair to ask whether playing your best 9 guys (almost) everyday could have been enough to make up that deficit.

    You mock legitimate viewpoints that you don't agree with all the time, particularly in game threads, so I'm not sure what gives you the moral high ground regarding that? Is it that you believe that arguments that are critical of the club are more deserving, or are you just not aware that you do that? Plenty of people have argued that the Twins haven't shared the blame in losing this lead. It's not even close to just some extreme minority on the fringes. Yes Cleveland has been red hot. I'm not sure it's reasonable to suggest that the Twins could have kept pace. But the problem is, with an 11.5 game lead, they didn't have to keep pace. Just play .600 ball (which is perfectly reasonable) instead of .500 ball, and take care of business when you have them at home for 4 games (splitting should have been the bare minimum expectation if this team considers itself legit, winning 3 is a reasonable ask at home), and they'd still have a 5.5 or 6.5 game lead.
