  1. I think the whole point was to free up all of his cap space. That can only be done by getting picks instead of players. I'd guess Rubio could have brought back some solid players but that didn't fit what they want to do with the money.
  2. I don't see why Berrios would have any innings limit this year.
  3. Well those guys can play center in a pinch, but I'm not sure anyone would want them as their everyday CF. Kepler and Rosario probably don't have the range, Granite probably doesn't have the arm, and Lewis is too far away to even consider when evaluating depth.
  4. Right, so again I ask, if Ervin Santana level pitchers with 2.5 years of control are worth so little on the trade market, as you suggest, then why don't we trade for 3 more just like him and have the best rotation in baseball for not just this year, but the following 2 seasons as well. That seems like a complete no brainer if he really has as little value as you suggest.
  5. Wait, it's only a one night ceremony? What am I missing here? I just assumed it was a 3 day ceremony when I heard he'd be missing 3 games.
  6. I keep hearing that it's not worth dealing Santana because he won't bring enough back. If that is true, then why don't we just trade for 3 more Ervin Santana level pitchers and have the best rotation in baseball?
  7. Luck has nothing to do with getting caught playing for a bunt in the FIFTH INNING! Seriously, why on earth would they expect bunt there? Do they think Molitor is managing the Red Sox?
  8. I guess I go the other way. I'd be disappointed and suspicious if Romero DOESN'T feel a bit slighted. Anyone in his shoes that has a competitive fire and self confidence should.
  9. Amen. I went to games at the Metrodome because I didn't know any better. But, if they every play under a roof again I won't be attending.
  10. They may be ok with it - though I doubt encouraged, I'm guessing they would prefer the guy they drafted that high get as much development in as possible. But, how exactly did they set up a plan to work around it? He's either at the games or he's not. I doubt they are petitioning for the games to be postponed until he returns.
  11. Except he might only get one opportunity to make it as a ballplayer too. And yes, we do have a much different world view. And that's ok. I was raised believing that you show up for work everyday unless it's a life or death emergency. I was also raised to believe that team trumps individual. The organization might be fine with it, I don't know, and I didn't infer either way. I'm just not a fan of it personally.
  12. Ok, maybe not meaningless, but certainly MUCH less important than his actual job. I'm just not a fan of a week into his new job, telling his teammates and employer that a personal award is more important than actual games.
  13. He's 23 years old. Of course he can still improve at the plate.
  14. I can't say I'm a fan of missing actual games to attend a meaningless personal award ceremony.
  15. You stated the reason right there in your question. Belisle is their guy, hand picked. Humans have a hard time recognizing when they are wrong. He'll get a long leash.
  16. I'd buy you a fur coat. (But not a real fur coat, that's cruel.)
  17. Pedro's career numbers vs the Yankees are pretty much right in line with his overall career numbers. 3.20 ERA (2.93 overall) 1.075 WHIP (1.054 overall) 10.8 k/9 (10.0 overall) 4.2 k:bb (4.15 overall)
  18. And Floyd's punishment, for violating house arrest, and lying about it, is 1 day in jail and no repercussions from his employer. No wonder he took his house arrest so lightly.
  19. Gonsalves is in no danger of hitting an innings limit this year. In fact, with the time he's already missed, they are probably worried that he won't throw enough innings.
  20. I disagree. Gibson is a warm body, IMO. Someone who can occupy the 5 spot when he's going okay, but gets crushed when he's not. Those guys can be found in the off-season for much less than Gibson will make in arbitration. Now, if we can non tender him and bring him back for a million or two, then that's another story.
  21. Correct. People talk about how historically rare it is for someone to start their mlb career as bad as he did, and become an offensive weapon. That's true, but I also wonder how historically rare it is for someone to be a top 5 pick, destroy milb pitching at every level, and not at least be an average hitter in the big leagues? That has to be just as unlikely, right? I've never bailed on Buxton through any of these struggles. I'm going down with the ship. I've always thought his floor was Torii Hunter and I still believe that.
  22. Turley is not a youngster though. He is a retread. That said, I have zero problem giving him a shot. Hell, I'd continue giving him shots until an actual prospect (Gonsalves/Romero) is ready, or until someone undoubtedly better is acquired.
  23. April 8 (average) High: CLE: 56, MPLS: 54 Low: CLE: 38, MPLS: 34
  24. It may be a few bad apples, but when the good cops defend them and refuse to disown them then they are just as bad in my mind.
