  1. Zach Granite would struggle to make a top 250 list. Just doesn't have the tools. That doesn't mean he can't forge out a five year career as a decent bench option, but for prospect lists they like to see at least some upside.
  2. Too small of sample to look at OPS, especially when it's relying almost exclusively on HR. (And even if you did,.845 is not very good for SEC hitter of the year 22 YO against rookie ball.) His bb and k aren't just not great, they are awful. He'll be lucky to have ABW's career, IMO.
  3. Same on Gordon. And the lack of top end prospects is why I'd be very reluctant to trade him. I think Gordon is going to be an All-star caliber player.
  4. Much more than just statlines when ranking prospects. Especially at the lower levels, tools are much more important.
  5. Looks to me like he's already at a level that challenges him, unfortunately.
  6. Thorpe would be a no brainer to be taken in the Rule V, IMO. Doesn't mean he'd stick, but I wouldn't risk it.
  7. I despise the HR derby and hope Sano pulls out. (He won't) It wrecks young players swings for quite some time after the derby.
  8. Well I'm not going to judge the FO on one pick. Though I do already think Rooker will absolutely be a bust. I realize I'll take heat for judging that pick so quickly, but I do, and if i turn out wrong I'll own it.
  9. Happy to get Butler of course. But, disappointed with free agency after the leaks that they were going "big game hunting" in free agency, and the comments from Butler.
  10. I wish him the best and wish he was still here.
  11. Ok, but by that definition, nearly every decision a human being makes in a lifetime is a crapshoot. Almost nothing in the world has a 100% predictable outcome.
  12. Its not that complicated. No need to look at strength of schedule or padded record or any of that. We played them head to head and it left zero doubt they were the much better team.
  13. No, it's not disingenuous. They could have used that roster spot on a position player. They chose to use it on a relief pitcher. They are carrying 9 relievers.
  14. Perhaps. But it has been proven to be a better predictor of future results than ERA. So, if the context is using his past numbers to set an expectation of his performance here, then xFIP is almost certainly more useful than ERA.
  15. I would say at this point, it's not possible that Rooker takes over in 2019, or ever. Let's wait and see if he can actually figure out rookie ball pitching before we start peciling him in anywhere else.
  16. If you can improve the odds, even a little bit, then it's skill based and not a crapshoot. Again, just because most picks bust, doesn't mean there is no skill involved.
  17. It's not a crapshoot. If it was, they wouldn't devote millions of dollars scouting for the draft. Something can have a really high failure rate and still be skill based.
  18. Correct. It is the player who made the last out the previous inning. Link: http://www.trentonian.com/sports/20170614/jay-dunn-mlb-is-testing-new-rule-in-minors-but-game-is-better-without-gimmicks
  19. IMO, the All-star game should be awarded based on results that actually happened. FIP and fWAR should have zero bearing on an all star argument. The K rate is a legit concern though.
  20. But that ranking isn't done by the same people giving out the contracts. He could have listed mlb pipelines rankings instead and the bonuses would have matched up better.
  21. Couldn't a person vote more than once if they went to more than one game?
  22. Well Royce Lewis is a SS in the same way that Sano was a SS when we signed him. It's not where he's going to play when he gets to the mlb. And a players bonus doesn't have any effect on tradability. Its a one time payment.
  23. Is that often- by itself ( not in combination with injury or previous season innings), a reason to limit a pitchers innings? I'm not sure I've seen it before.
