  1. Just to clarify, you think Wander Javier is only slightly below the #5 prospect in all of baseball?
  2. My accusation is far from out of thin air. The team has owners with a reputation for being thrifty and have never gone over their pool. It's a common sense assumption.
  3. Baseball also has much more parity in possible outcomes. You just can't compare it to other sports in that regard. If the best and worst teams in baseball played 100 times the worst team would still probably win 30 to 35 of those games. In football the Patriots would beat the Browns 95 or 96 times.
  4. 4 straight seasons over 200 innings. Those rank 10th, 19th, 31st, and 32nd in all of baseball in their respective seasons. How many guys in all of baseball are pitching deeper into games than him? Can't be more than 10 or 15, tops, right?
  5. Wow you are blowing my mind Deduno. Mike: Here is how we can try to get a 3 WAR pitcher. You: I'd rather try to get a 6 WAR pitcher. Mike: We all would, but Twins won't pay for a 6 WAR pitcher. You: You are unfairly ripping the Twins for being cheap. Mike: (explains why it's really unlikely they'd pay for a 6 WAR pitcher) You: I never said it had to be a 6 WAR pitcher, it could be a 3 WAR pitcher (what Mike said to begin with). Really, wow, that's impressive Deduno.
  6. Crawford is 92 on baseball america. Crease is 83 (Romero not in top 100). Is there a publication that has Romero ahead of Crease? The difference between a #5 prospect and #30 is HUGE. It's after the top 30 or so that the differences become relatively small.
  7. It may seem obvious on your end but it read as if to say you ESPECIALLY hate when its in the entertainment industry that people get hurt. I wasn't sure. I certainly didn't think you enjoy people being hurt.
  8. That's Ryan being a good company man. The Pohlads have always had a budget, 50% of revenue I believe has been reported several times. GM's don't refuse to spend more money. Spending more is no guarantee but it's clearly an advantage. No GM is going to say, "thanks for the offer boss, but I like a good challenge! I'm going to see if I can build a winner for less!" If he did refuse more payroll, then he's stupid. And, i have a lot of issues with Ryan, but I don't believe for a second he's ever been stupid in his life.
  9. Of course I'm not certain. But the Twins have never gone over, so I'm not sure they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
  10. Yeah Rollins only averaged 13 HR per season, and had a career 95 OPS+. Gordon likely will never be as good defensively, but it seems bizarre to suggest that he can't be at least as good offensively. Of course Thrylos has never been high on Gordon. I think he projected Vielma to have the better career a few times last year.
  11. Eloy Jimenez is number 5 prospect in all of baseball. Twins don't have a comparable prospect in their system.
  12. Could you post an example of a package that the White Sox might have taken over the Cubs package? And keep in mind that Hahn has stated publicly that they look for quality over quantity in these deals. Only way the Twins even have a shot is by including Sano, Buxton, Berrios or Kepler, which kind of defeats the purpose.
  13. The Pohlads still own the team. It's fun to suggest or hope that they will suddenly change how they operate with money, but its just not realistic. The Twins left a couple intriguing draft picks on the table because the Pohlads won't even pay a relatively small penalty for exceeding draft pool. No chance they pay what it would cost to buy a 6 WAR pitcher on the open market.
  14. I also don't like to see people get hurt, but I'm not sure why you qualify it as entertainment. This is their job. There are many job fields in the world where people get hurt. Athletes have it better than most, at least they are well compensated for sacrificing their bodies. Many, many people have to sacrifice their body for their job and are left with nothing to show for it.
  15. I don't believe he would, no. I don't believe he's ever wanted to or considered playing for anyone but the Twins. Every player has different priorities, I don't believe that winning is especially high on Joe's. Of course anyone would rather win than lose, but I don't think it's his top priority.
  16. Nobody (that I've seen) is suggesting the Twins blow it up now. They are lamenting that we didn't blow it up Astros style when we had the chance. I'd think even the most ardent rebuild supporter understands that now that Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Berrios, Polanco are up here you try to open a window of contention.
  17. I agree with most of this. But, Joe Mauer has a full no trade clause. Trading him has never been an option.
  18. I agree, the title of this thread has to be changed.
  19. Even if that's true, it doesn't change my point that you don't remove him in the first place if you think he'll make the mlb club this season. Of course, unforeseen events could change that. But, it's highly unlikely, IMO.
  20. If Melo had any chance of making the big leagues this season they wouldn't have removed him from the 40 man roster a couple weeks ago.
  21. You used playing time to defend why Busenitz has less wAR than Meyer. My point was his lack of being able to crack the worst bullpen in baseball is an indictment of his talent.
  22. And he's played about a total of 1.5 seasons of the last 5 at 3B due to injury, or moving positions due to roster decisions. The eye test shows a guy who can handle the position once he gets some consistent reps. I realize you haven't wanted him there from the start, and were angry that Plouffe wasn't brought back to play 3B, it might be time to eat some crow on that one. I think he's available if he's an upgrade over Sano.
  23. Yes, he's barely pitched, despite our worst bullpen in the league. That is not a defense, it's an indictment.
  24. No, he shouldn't be DH now. He's been adequate at 3B.
  25. I actually think that might not be enough for Quintana. He's not an ace, no, but a really good number 2, would be a staff ace on several teams. He's controlled beyond this year, and starting pitching is expensive in July.
