  1. Escobar was a free agent, and declined the team's attempts at an extension. The alternative of trading him wasn't to keep him, it was letting him walk for nothing.
  2. I don't think the Sox would have to give up prospects AND eat $36 million. $20m/yr seems about what his value would be in this market.
  3. I don't know if he can or can't win a big game. But I do know that for his career he's yet to do it. I also don't think this team is good. I think they are firmly in the 'mediocre' category. Good enough to beat bad teams, not good enough to beat good teams, and a coin flip against other mediocre teams.
  4. My uneducated guess, especially with the new kickoff alignment rules, is that 4th and 24 is multiple times more likely than an onside kick being successful. Though I'd be interested in seeing the math.
  5. They're linked in the OP. Hint: Daniel Palka was our projected DH for this year.
  6. It certainly gave me flashbacks of the Childress/TJack era.
  7. And if not having Cook is going to be the excuse (TV guys, not anyone here), then I'd question the wisdom of building your offense around a guy who seems incapable of staying healthy.
  8. The offense was awful in the first half too (just 2 first downs), it was just masked by the defense.
  9. I've been hard on Zimmer. And I agree, and have thought for a couple of years, that he needs to go. But at some point the players need to have some professional pride. These guys are all getting paid a ton of money, and tonight, in a huge game against a bitter rival, most of them didn't bother to show up. Embarrassing.
  10. Bradbury was a huge whiff. O'Neill has moments where he looks solid, but otherwise this offensive line needs to be completely scrapped.
  11. Wait, they're punting it down 2 scores with 3:30 to go? I get that 4the and 24 is a longshot, but punting it here is game over. Zimmer coaching to keep the final score from looking more lopsided, that's sad.
  12. It's amazing that Cousins can be so good this year, and then be so awful just because it's Monday instead of Sunday. I don't know what the reason is, I won't call him a choker because I don't know him, but there is definitely a reason he struggles so badly on Monday night.
  13. Ok, but then they aren't serious about acquiring impact arms. Someone is always going to be willing to go that 4th or 5th year, it's a tax on getting them in years 1 and 2. Yes, going 4 years for a guy like Ryu is a risk. But inaction is also a risk. If they want impact pitchers via trade, they'll also have to "overpay" on that route. At some point you have to be willing to eat that extra year at the end of the contract, or include a better prospect, or whatever it takes. You won't find any posts of me asking them to make unreasonable signings or trades. But I don't think 4/80 for Ryu is at all unreasonable.
  14. Do you have any evidence that the Twins would have needed to outbid the Jays by 40 million in order to get Ryu?
  15. Polanco already signed an extension last year.
  16. I don't see a whole lot of "impact" starting pitchers on the trade market though.
  17. Where are you seeing any criticism of Arraez in this article or thread of comments?
  18. MLB Pipeline disagrees with you. They have Kay/Woods with the exact same FV as Thorpe/Duran. Fangraphs actually had Kay/Woods with a slightly higher FV. I'll update when Fangraphs updates their Blue Jay rankings for 2020. As for Kluber, you can't possibly know that they traded him at his lowest point. If he's cooked, as I believe he might be, then he'd have negative value at the deadline, and the Indians would need to include a prospect just to dump his salary.
  19. I'm sure the Red Sox would love to make out that good. Realistically, the Sox are going to have to give a pretty good prospect or two along with Price.
  20. That's true, but I don't see anyone asking for the Twins to match the Yankees spending.
  21. Yeah, I don't understand how he can say they've been run poorly, while also saying the Stroman trade was incredibly light. Which is it?
  22. I don't agree. If anything, I think Cleveland won the Kluber trade, Kluber looks cooked and is expensive. The rough Twins equivalent of the Stroman package is Duran and Thorpe. That seems pretty fair to me.
  23. Insurance only covers an entire missed season, not partial. There is plenty that can go wrong that won't be covered by insurance. Like all insurance, baseball insurance is a scam.
  24. I'd rather take on the full salaries and give up less prospect capital.
