  1. I heard an interesting point yesterday. Ownership does not want to spend $$$. The FO does not want to spend prospects. That doesn't leave much space to maneuver in.
  2. I hadn't viewed Rocco's actions through this lens. His tendency to cling to failing strategies and unflinching belief in reversion to the mean can also be seen as risk-averse behaviors. In which case, he will not change until the pain of standing pat overwhelms the unknowns of taking a risk
  3. Rocco was out-managed by Skip Schumacher tonight!!! WTF!
  4. It's a good thing manager of the year votes make a team successful and fun to watch. Sorry for the sarcasm... Just finished watching Thursday night's game 😕
  5. Watching that game you would never be able to guess which team had a playoff spot on the line! The Marlins were actively trying to win! The huddle at the mound to put on the 5 infielder play showed a team that was intense, playing as a team, and scraping for any advantage they could get. I hear Skip Schumacher will be available
  6. Hahaha.... When I read the title, I was sure it had been written by Falvey. That's exactly how he would spin it! Seriously, I think there is a rift between the Pohlads and the FO. Not a penny at the deadline in 2023, cut payroll 20% going into 2024, couldn't find a few million at this year's deadline when the team was punching well above its weight. FO has apparently not been extended. That is not how you operate with someone you have confidence in.
  7. Is it trust or rigidity... Doing the same thing over and over and expecting difference results? A manager's greatest quality is the ability to adapt.
  8. Ouch! The truth hurts sometimes! I read this right after I read the Strib article on Willi Castro setting a record for getting hit by pitches in a season. It was sad how excited Rocco was that someone had set a record for something 😕
  9. Great article Matthew! I'd go a step further and say the way the deadline was handled made the team worse. Trevor Richards literally made the team worse. But the actions of ownership and the FO destroyed the morale of the team. You can see it in the way they have played, and in the discontent that has flowed from the clubhouse. You might say "look at Detroit, they sold and got better". Yes. They sold and brought up young players and gave them a shot, rather than letting them sit on the bench for 2 weeks and sending them back down. How did this become such a poorly run organization??
  10. Apples to oranges. Cleveland does not have 1 player making $35m. Don't get me wrong, Correa is worth it. But when you make a commitment like that, reducing payroll to the bottom third of MLB is not reasonable. And on top of that you have a part-time CF making $15m, and an aging catcher at $10m. The math doesn't work. And it just gets worse next year when Pablo gets $22m. Who is the Twins CFO?
  11. My conscience is clear. I've paid full price for the product. If I bought an ebook from Amazon and they told me I could only read it from 1-3pm, I'd probably figure out how to get around that.
  12. The Padres, Diamondbacks and Rockies already have this up and running.
  13. I don't believe the Pohlads measure success in terms of playoffs or championships 😕
  14. I really hesitate to judge players when it comes to their physical well-being. But the "if they are 100% they would play" comment seems ludicrous. How many players are 100% in September?
  15. You nailed it! Next year is going to be brutal, financially speaking đŸ˜Ŗ
  16. That might be the case if this was an organization that cared more about championships than profit & loss statements ☚ī¸
  17. Same here. Twins fan since 1965. Rarely miss a game... unless for a wedding or funeral 😉 Didn't have any interest in turning it on yesterday. And my instincts were right 😕
  18. This article should be in the locker of every Twins batter! Foul off the ones you can't do anything with until you get the one you want. They should be taking fouling off pitches practice along with batting practice!
  19. Those signings happened before the switch from Jim to Joe. I don't think we'll see any of those going forward. Maybe 1 "face of the franchise" player, but that will be it. We will have the young stars until arbitration raises their prices. They will keep the farm system stocked and ready to backfill. Joe said it pretty clearly... They want to model operations after TB 😕
  20. Twins players will be lower in counting stats due to the extreme platooning they do. There are currently only 2 Twins players (Castro & Santana) who have enough PAs to qualify for the leaderboards.
