  1. Gordon for Gray too much? Most of them I read said you are not going to get a Gray for a Gordon.
  2. OPS + of 100 means they are league average for their position. So what. They have only one batter that has a wpa of any significance. Now wpa measures batting contributions towards winning. Why is OPS+ a better stat than that?
  3. Name one good but not elite, and not a rental pitcher that has ever been traded for a prospect in the mid 50's or less.
  4. Every team gets to have an all star. Dave Engel was an all star once. as was Ron Coomer. Being the best of the worst really does not mean much.
  5. Multiple causes for situations. Aaron Hicks had almost 1000 PA as a Twin I guess that was not not enough. Should have had more. Some players do not work with some coaches. Bruno screwed up Hicks. It took a few off seasons and a year for Hicks to figure things out, after bouncing around with the Twins for 3 years. Other factors for Hicks doing well might include Hicks benefiting from being in a better lineup. Many different factors, No the only reality is the Twins were not patient enough. The patience if played out as some would it with other players . With the Patient Dave approach Arcia still should be in the outfield here because he is going to hit someday. Liriano should still be starting here. The turnaround with the Pirates had nothing to do with coaching, see his results in Toronto. Valencia, Hendriks. So many the Twins were not patient enough with. Every 3 years when Worley pitch well in Dave world there should be an outcry of the ineptitude of the FO that let him go .
  6. Against one of the weaker offenses in the league playing their backups about all Meyer needed to do was throw it towards the center of the plate
  7. Non rental, non elite pitcher would be a player with a couple years left on a bloated contract, someone like Dan Straily, good years and unlucky years, Or a low ceiling rookie that you would be giving up a higher ceiling prospect for. What team has an excess of pitching that they can trade a reasonably priced player for prospects> The Emerald City Wizards? Nice idea, but I don't see it existing
  8. Makes sense as Wilk would be of no use for a few days, wimmers as the 26th player was used for the first game. There will be a few fresher arms for the evening go around, when it resumes. 4 innings in they got what they needed out of Mejia
  9. Sonny Gray would cost at least one of the AA pitchers as well as some ranked prospect and spare ports. Jaime Garcia cost that and he is not as good as Gray. Gray Is not as good as he was but still would be better than most of what is available out there. The price will go higher if a couple of teams are showing a desperation for starting pitching.
  10. I would add that the Twins had a pitcher last year that was a rookie chuck up an ERA of 8 as a starter. Good thing they did not jettison that miserable pitcher. Turley, like so many before him, still has a few things to figure out. The coaches need to see what is going on and determine if is fixable or is he another Pat Dean, a left handed Meyer or a competent starter.
  11. Pitcher A holds the lead 11 out of the 13 times he takes the ball with the lead. Has only lost one game all season. Pitcher B has held the lead out of 10 games and has 4 losses but has 1/4 the era of pitcher A. Pitcher C is 7 years younger than the other 2 players and has held the lead in 11/14 games that mattered. Which reliever has contributed more to their team winning? ERA is nice to have low but in the end that does not matter as much as how many games they blow. The pitcher that pitches well in blowout games but not so much in the tighter games will look better than the pitcher who pitching poorly in blowout losses and better in tight games.
  12. You assail them for giving Turley a chance and failing when he was having a far better season than the others in Rochester. How can Hurlbut be any worse? Hurlbut did not miss as many bats in the minors would be one clue. He is not fooling the players he currently faces, better hitters will destroy him.
  13. The article was dated for 2012, the CBA was signed in 2016. Either your source went back to the future or, more likely, your source is out of date information.
  14. Berndadino reported it as full slot value http://www.twincities.com/2017/06/16/twins-officially-sign-former-college-slugger-brent-rooker/ Strib says 1.9 million http://www.startribune.com/brent-rooker-made-good-on-second-chance-as-twins-draft-choice/429020243/ The local Mississippi paper says full slot http://www.djournal.com/sports/twins-sign-rooker-for-million/article_746707bd-93a7-501a-9847-2fdd92b70dfd.html Somebody is wrong somewhere.
  15. It is easily done
  16. Since the new CBA is not yet available in digital form yet there really isn't much point to this argument of who is wrong. It costs money for 2 doctors so I doubt mlb would go for it. The old cba it was the player option, which you could have pointed out like this D. Second Medical Opinion Within 20 days following the execution of this Agreement, the Clubs shall provide an updated, accepted listing of medical specialists, by specialty and by geographic region, to whom Players may upon their request go for diagnosis and a second medical evaluation of an employment related illness or injury being treated by the Club physician. At least two board-certified physicians shall be designated for each specialty in each of the geographic regions, and all the physicians on the list shall be board-certified in an appropriate medical specialty. The Commissioner’s Medical Advisory Committee, in consultation with a medical professional designated by the Association, shall review and update the list of specialists on an annual basis. The Association shall have 30 days from the date of receiving an updated list within which to recommend additions to or deletions from the list. Prior to undergoing a “second evaluation,” a Player shall inform the Club in writing of his decision to seek a second medical opinion, and the name of the physician who will be performing the diagnosis and medical evaluation. A Player may seek a “second evaluation” from a medical specialist on the accepted listing who is located outside of the geographic region within which the Player’s Club is located, provided that the Player is not absent from the Club for an unreasonable period of time. If a Player uses the services of a medical specialist who is on the accepted listing, the Club shall pay the cost of the “second evaluation,” including transportation and hotel costs. Expenses for “second evaluations” by medical specialists who are not on the accepted listing shall be authorized and paid only by prior written agreement between the Player and the Club. (See Attachment 35.)
  17. As long as Grossman does not provide great outfield defense eye test by the fans and little HR power as a DH, there will be people not respectful of his hitting
  18. Having an idea what the players are about or what they can become is not something the average fan is going to know. If people are passing judgment on the draft ask how they have any idea what the player's skill set it. At best it is filtered.
  19. To sign? How about not yet drafted. Say a David Cabrerra, tanner Burns, Bryce Bonnin, Jake Elder, Chris McMahon. Plenty of names out there if you look. Of course, some things are behind pay walls. Sometimes there is not information for the cheap
  20. I am not a scout. I can't tell you. Teams hire people to know this. When you get bored at work go look through past drafts and you will find high school players that were drafted and not signed who were later drafted and put up solid to great numbers. It exists as a possibility,. It would be as likely to produce a major league player as any other options in the later rounds..
  21. They also have the funds to buy pitching, the Twins do not have that. 61 million this year for Lester, Lackey, Arrietta and Wade. The Twins could never do something similar. Trading to acquire young pitching is also difficult to do
  22. I stand on the side of amass all the talent you can. The counter to your ss question I would ask, isn't starting pitching the most important for the playoffs?
  23. What falls and you use the money on is a high school player to bypass college. It could be a guy like a 5th round pick Nix a few years ago. It could be you find one of the high school players like Springer was drafted by the Twins and make an all out effort to get them to sign
  24. I think if you jump to conclusions based on the three picks it is not that the Twins have a problem. Judgments based of an incomplete picture is destructive. When the draft is over and players are signed, then whine away. Extra cash still can be spent in later rounds than round 2. Any late round draft pick can be enticed to sign There could be several drafted, all it takes is one. As Thyrlos pointed out inadvertently with all of the late selections of Minnesota players, none of them panned out. What harm is there having a couple million in signing money to entice a high school player or two. One has to be patient and see what is drafted.
  25. There was not a pitcher in the draft that was going to help out next two years team in the draft unless they were trade bait.
