Ace pitchers control their pitch count that is how they go innings. All the Twins starters seem to be approaching 80-100 pitches in 4-5 innings. To be an Ace you need to go after hitters, not nibble around the zone. If Joe lowers his walk rate that would help his pitch count and get him more innings.

The biggest problem is health of the team. You have way to many players that seem to find their way to the IL. The biggest concern should be the players with back issues. Those can come out of the blue and are hard to recover from. When bending down to field ground balls and swinging the bat can aggravate back problems. The one example is Kirilloff who chose to retire at a young age.

Jax has become a pitcher in 24 and Duran is still a thrower. Just because you can throw 100+ doesn't mean you can get outs. Most hitters can catch up now and throwing pitches in the middle of the zone get hit hard. We will see how the rest of the BP fairs with no Lefty as of now. And the health of Stewart and Alcala and Topa is key.

Twins Leave Wallet at Home Again
David Maro replied to RandBalls Stu's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Probably the reason no one wants to talk about making a deal. The organization is showing just how CHEAP they really are. -
The biggest problem with the deals made on the pitching side is and has been too many dead arm pitchers. It all started with Big Mike and kept going on from there. It needs to change or they will have problems like last year finding arms to finish the season.

The Time for "Getting Creative" Is Upon Us
David Maro replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The organization is not going to do anything to devalue the team at this time. When selling the team with the Polhad's they will put major deals on hold. Everyone will have to wait until a new ownership comes in. This is why the only deals made this off season has been minor league deals. The FO is also going to protect their jobs, hoping to save them. -
With new ownership coming in hopefully in the future, Rocco is trying to save his job. He has had plenty of time as manager to make changes but is set in his ways. Playing baseball is and has been the way to go since forever. If you look around the league you can count on one hand players with 50 homeruns. That is why hit and run and hitting behind runners is and will be forever.

Pablo needs to be more aggressive on the mound. At times he has shown to be a little timid. When he bears down and becomes a bit of a bulldog he is a better pitcher. Watching Ober pitch he seems to already have that mentality. Varland has the mentality, but is a thrower not a pitcher. It is time the pitching coach work to improve that aspect.
-
First off the manager seems to like not having a true 2nd or 3rd baseman. It gives him the opportunity to platoon players at those positions. Now he also has the same situation at 1st base. As far as Lewis goes he hasn't looked good at 3rd base and looked uncomfortable at 2nd base for the short time he played there. He may be a good trade chip if he is going to tell the organization where he is going to play. He could be a everyday LF'er that the team hasn't had since Rosario.

Exploring Two Trade Scenarios for Willi Castro
David Maro replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why is it so important to get rid of a 6+ million dollar player who plays everyday. We have a pitcher making 7.5 million and a catcher making 10 million who can't. It's time to get real and move on from players who spend more time on the bench than on the field. If the team is out of contention in July then you make a deal with Castro. -
Here we go again with the nonsense of best BP. There was only 2 BP arms in last years BP that showed up. That would be Jax and Sands. What makes anyone think this year will be different. Duran started the season on IL and Stewart made his way there. And can't forget the trade with the Mariners that brought 2 arms that spent the season on the IL. Then mixing in Varland and Alcala and who can forget Dobnak. How about we make these judgments closer to Memorial Day.

First off to say this is the best roster in the Central is a reach. Detroit and KC are equal to if not better. Both of those rosters know who is playing where while this roster is still who is on 1st and 2nd and don't forget about 3rd. With the ownership up in the air 25 is going to be a long season. With that going on the FO and manager will be under the microscope. The only money spent is going to be fans having to pay higher ticket prices.

Why is it Jeffers can't catch 125 games of 162? The trade that needs to be made is the 32+year old Vasquez. They have 3 catchers in AAA now and it should be time for one of them to be ready. The backup could play in 37 games and replace Jeffers in games that are won or lost early. We all know Rocco is a platooning manager. The Polhad's have given the mandate to trim payroll that went up yesterday.

The only change that will be made is raising the ticket prices. All the fans attending the games will see a 3rd or 4th place team in the central. They still have the same FO and manager who loves platooning players on a whim.

Over thinking the game gets you 4 place in the central and will do the same in 25.

Is Rocco Baldelli a Lame Duck Manager in 2025?
David Maro replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The team is in total disarray as it stands. It's a Laural and Hardy joke, who's on 1st and what's on 2nd and how about 3rd. Everyone is hoping for new ownership, I don't see them lining up to buy. The FO got pitching turned around but failed elsewhere. Rocco is a bad situational manager and this team will finish in 3rd place at best in 25. -
Let's see if I have this right Jax wants to start and let's trade Duran. Now we have a really weak BP. They have 3 injury prone RH and a LH pitcher who has not shown he can get hitters out consistently. I think the FO has been told cut payroll by 10 to 20 million not a couple million. They also don't want to hurt the team to much in regard to getting a buyer. The Polhad's are going make money selling the team, why would they weaken it and have to take less.

Really this is laughable to talk about how hard a ball gets hit. In many of the cases they went for outs. You get to watch the runner thrown out by yards not inches. Doesn't matter much if the ball is hit 20 mph or 100 mph it can be a hit if in the right place. The same with the nonsense of a homerun going 450 ft when the fence is 375 ft. If the ball goes 380 ft it's still a homerun. The only thing that matters is the score.
-
Doesn't matter what players name you post about, players want to know what position they play. Coming out of ST who's on 1st,2nd and 3rd. You can't have good defense rotating players all over the infield. Now that Santana is gone the only position filled is SS and hopefully Correa can stay on the field. You also have issues in the OF as well hoping that Buxton will be there and who will play the corners. How many different players have they run out to LF since Rosario left. Everyone says Wallner in RF because of his arm but can he catch the ball. Target Field is not a normal RF and is tricky to play with the overhang. It is pretty obvious the ownership is not going to invest in a team they want to sell. Look for a long season if they have injury issues and Rocco doesn't stop playing checkers with the bench.
-
The team as it stands is a 4th place team in the central. They open ST with question marks at 1st,2nd,3rd and corner OF positions. But looking at who the manager is this what he wants. He wants to platoon players and of course give Buxton and Correa games off. Also ownership has no interest in adding payroll while trying to sell. Look for a long season of bad baseball.

Twins Listening On Trade Inquiries About Pablo Lopez
David Maro replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If the Polhad's are interested in selling the team at this time, why trade a fan favorite. You are weaking the value and the rotation. You would be much smarter to cut payroll trading Paddock and Vasquez. With Paddock who is now a BP arm and Vasquez a over 30 year old catcher who plays 80 games. To sell for the most you have to put a competitive team together. Does anyone really believe the Polhad's are looking to sell for a rock bottom price. -
Let's trade the only everyday player the team has on a injury prone roster. How about moving on from Paddock and Vasquez or even Varland who has not shown he can start. He is now behind SWR and Festa and may start the season in St Paul because the BP needs a LH pitcher. Both Martin and Lee are not as viable as Castro at this time.

Just what team are you all talking about, not the Twins with Rocco as manager. His lineup moves are game to game and no one knows who's playing 2nd or 3rd. As of now who's on 1st as well, hopefully Correa will play 120+or SS will be a problem as well. You can't have good defense with a rotating infield. And saying it is a different game now is nonsense, yes the pitcher and hitter are on the the clock. But it's still pitch the ball hit the ball catch the ball throw the ball. Last year the only Gold Glove was Santana at 1st for good reason his everyday play.
