  1. It's not a brain freeze. He hasn't played enough games at first base to call it that. It's called a lack of training and repetition. With proper training and enough repetition any player will automatically make that play to home without hesitation.
  2. It seems to me that how soon prospects will arrive should figure into the rankings. With that in mind I would easily put Walker Jenkins as number one. Lackey won't arrive till at least September 2027, while Walker Jenkins will be here this September. IF he remains healthy. I would like to see the Twins make durability a larger aspect of prospects, as I grow weary of the constantly injured multiple Minnesota Twins prospects. It seems obvious, but you're not doing the Twins organization any good if you can't play.
  3. Any Rockies pitcher that has an ERA under three, is impressive. The Twins cannot give up much. We do have too many outfielders, and lesser prospects would be ok.
  4. No way, and the Twins rotation is strong only in comparison to the relievers. And, the relievers have improved lately which is something not true about the starters. I'm not complaining as the Twins are out performing, and more important they have a lot of potential in the minors. They picked Banda, Gomez, and Nance for very little; all wins. They also got Clemens, and Roden has potential. Kreidler is not likely a starter but he's a SS and versatile in playing different positions. The Twins have done well this year.
  5. Twins, a post season contender for what? Ryan has arm fatigue and Pablo is out for the year; their two best starters. Playoffs are a step up from the regular season. The Twins are outperforming so far. They don't have enough pitching all around to do diddly squat, IF they won a wild card so what? It would be experience, that's all. Don't make any trade of legit prospects. Getting something for Jeffers is fine but another SS makes zero sense.
  6. The Twins should be focused on long term plans, so that they can make it back to the World Series before next century (sarcasm). The short term is irrelevant. Even if they were to make a trade or two and became a Wild Card team this year; they're not going anywhere. Focus on 28-29, to become a dangerous playoff team. Young talent makes teams dangerous, even if typically, young players need some playoff experience to attain the ALCS level.
  7. I really like Jeffers, but getting a reasonable prospect (likely not a top tier one) is better than getting nothing. Caratini is solid, and Jackson still needs more playing time to see if this year's stats are an outlier, or if Jackson has considerably figured out hitting. As for the Twins trading prospects, only on an equal trade value; essentially trading positions, such as pitcher for giving up a position player. Likely not the Twins top tier prospects; one to five, or even one to ten.
  8. Bailey Ober doesn't belong in this discussion. He's a solid four, or maybe three starter. He's not going to shut teams down, but he rarely implodes. He gives you 5-6 innings of solid pitching; and an opportunity to win the game. That fits the 3-4 slots.
  9. Rojas especially,, yet also Tait have significant upside. If the goal is the World Series, trading high upside talent is ridiculous. I have no interest in wild card purgatory teams, which, no fault with Joe, is what we had in the Mauer era.
  10. You have to get at least two highly rated prospects for him. Even then, it's a crap shoot with prospects. Look at Buxton; great talent and yet physically flawed durability. Jeffers is durable in comparison.
  11. Teams don't really plan to trade. It depends upon the potential trade. Even players that initially teams don't plan on trading, can be traded if a favorable deal comes up.
  12. Jenkins needs more experience, as he has been injured a lot in the minors. Roden is ready, bring him up and we'll know by the end of the season what the Twins have in Roden. The Twins don't need to know what they have in Jenkins. Once Jenkins comes up, he'll likely stay at the MLB level. Also, forget the playoffs. The point in the fire sale was to stock up the minor league system. That is the only way the Twins will make it back to the World Series. With the Wild Cards, playoffs are largely meaningless. What is needed at minimum is an appearance at the ALCS, and the Twins aren't anywhere near that.
  13. The fire sale by the Twins is (non-cynical version) for a reason. They can't out spend other clubs, so the only path to return to the World Series is to stock the minor leagues with prospects. There have to be enough prospects, because no one knows who will succeed, who will remain healthy (Buxton, Lewis), etc. That's their only path to the World Series. It's been since 1991 since the Twins have played a meaningful game that might lead to the World Series. I'm not getting any younger, and neither are you. If you wish to see the Twins even be in another World Series, stop your bitchin, and see what happens in two to three years. Even then, the window is more like four to five years to actually make World Series moves. When did American men become such impatient whiney bi%$&%s?
  14. Unlike Buxton, Jenkins won't give away at bats by chasing medium and low outside pitches.
  15. Larnach has competitive at bats.
  16. To say that AAA players are a solution is absurd. A solution is for six position players to have a good year, two to have an average year, and one to be below average. Even if two AAA players offer a boost, that can't make up for several players having an off year at the plate. It's simply wishful thinking not attached to reality. Second, I've seen nothing to indicate this ownership is willing to do what it takes to be competitive. The Varland trade is stiill an absurd trade, perhaps even more tclearly seen now than last year.. What MLB team can compete without a closer? None. Third, nothing discourages a team more than to play to win, and not keep the lead. We don't have the hitters to make up for lost leads.
  17. The reality is this. Unless there are new owners, forget the ALCS or World Series.
  18. I don't understand how the writer suggests free agency after the debacle Correa was. Second, the Pohlad's aren't spending big money on a SS. Third, the Twins aren't ready for a move till 2027 at the earliest. Young talent needs development. Lee can play SS next year. It's a rebuilding year anyway. Fourth, unless the Pohlad's sell the team, figure on nothing great happening, like the ALCS. I'll still follow baseball because it's a great sport.
  19. This is a big miss by Baldelli. The Twins had speed since spring training; too little too late. The owners need to go, really need to go, like yesterday. Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Then the Pohlad's came and really stayed...
  20. The greatest issue is the owners. Will a different manager make the Twins better? Probably not likely that will happen.
  21. Did I read Austin Martin similar to Outman? I couldn't have read that.
  22. Agreed on Taj Bradley. Cole Sands has had a rough time after All-Star break. Really, Austin Martin is a baller. He has great at bats. He has good speed for Left field, and he makes plays. I don't care if he doesn't have home run power. Buxton has home run power and he's been chasing that outside pitch since the break. Austin rarely does what Buxton has been doing; getting himself out by swinging at crap. That's not his game. If he can hit the gap as he did last night, that's all the Twins need. We need more players that consistently make the opposing pitcher, and Austin is that. (If Buxton had the plate discipline Martin has he would be top five, maybe top three in the American League.) That's the truth of it. I admire players who make the most of what they have, rather than lacking discipline. Did Mauer ever give outs away? Did Puckett ever give outs away? Ok, more than Mauer, but Puckett didn't get himself out much. Keaschall is good too at not giving away at bats. I like watching Martin because you're watching the best of what he's got to give. Whatever happened to excellence?
  23. Luis Arraez is 5' 10", Keaschall is six feet, and has some power. I would choose Keaschall as he will likely improve his batting with more reps. Arraez has been getting significantly worse the last two years.
  24. Luis Arraez has never reminded me of Rod Carew. BTW - Carew hit below .300 his first two years and then always above. Essentially, achieving and sustaining excellence. 1st base is a position that needs power, such as Hrbek brought to it. Hrbek was a great fielder as well and had height and length.
  25. Quote: Ok, the Ship of Theseus Twins roll on, this time hosting the Padres in a battle between an energetic playoff contender and the rotting husk of what used to be a competitive collection of men. :Unquote. This drivel about the current team gets old. The only time the former team showed the competitiveness to possibly make the playoffs was the thirteen game win streak. The before and after the streak was not impressive. Unfortunately, that streak was the highlight of competitiveness. Correa was the fourth or fifth best batter, and he was supposed to be up there with Buxton. If it weren't for Buxton this team would have disastrously underperformed. These young players play hard, and they'll learn. We have more young players in the wing. The only possibility of a World Series is to have five, probably six players that are home grown. Such as Puckett, Gaetti, Hrbek, and Brunansky were. We need five more players to step up to that level with Buxton. The remaining three cannot be fillers. Oh, and the team needs to be sold.
