  1. Really? We are overly concerned about a young pitcher giving up too many singles. Singles! That's much better than a concern about a pitcher giving up too many homers. What reduces singles - better defense, especially team speed out there. Turn a double play when you should rather than getting only one out takes care of singles. Zebby does need to focus more with 2 outs. He gives up too many hits/runs with 2 outs.
  2. I like Klein. Needs more development at AAA. I'm adding him to the 40 man roster or he's getting selected in the Rule 5 draft.
  3. Wallner has to fix his swing to cover the upper part of the strike zone. I'm not giving up on him. Sluggers seem to have holes in their swing. He hasn't been given enough time to fix this hole. We need a balance of sluggers and on base guys. Just because guys like Sano haven't worked out doesn't mean we dump every slugger after a year below expectations. Mendez will not be added to the 40 man roster this winter. He's not playing any 1B in the AFL and thus is behind so many lh hitting corner OF's plus he doesn't have much power and hasn't played a single game at AAA yet.
  4. If the Twins were high on Fedko they would have brought him up in September to get a taste of MLB. Being a hitter who only has one great minor league year and, most of all, at his age, he won't get selected in the Rule 5 draft.
  5. I'm adding: Prielipp, Morris, Rojas, CJ Culpepper, Kliein (not Olivares for now - but think he might get picked in the Rule 5), and Gonzalez and Cardenas on the hitter side. I'm surprised Klein wasn't discussed in this video. As discussed in other threads, I don't have Mendez or Rosario as MLB teams love pitchers, not hitters, in this draft.
  6. I think both the Mariners and Twins think the Twins won this trade, at least at this point (it's a draw at worst). The Twins traded Polanco's contract through 2024. He was then a free agent and anyone, including the Twins could have signed him for 2025. If the Twins had kept Polanco through 2024, there is zero chance of them resigning him after a .651 OPS year in 2024. The Mariners would gladly take Gonzalez back at this point as they still could have signed Polanco for his good 2025 year as they did in February for a reduced rate.
  7. If you are trading this many guys away, why stop there! Put Cardenas in for Vazquez. Culpepper for Falefa. Rodriguez for Larnach. That's down another $13M or so. Then, sign Jenkins, Rodriguez and Culpepper (and maybe others) to 8 year contracts (or however many is needed) and gamble that they will be great, buying out some of their free agent years.
  8. Clemons seemed to have so many clutch hits this year. Something you can't say about many on the team. Some people think that clutch hitting is luck while others think you have (or develop) a clutch gene.
  9. I'm thinking next year, there will be a lot more competition for this award.
  10. Things like fundamentals, base running, the manager has control over. Too often we were bad at things we could control. This year, I was ready for Rocco to get fired as I didn't see improvement in areas I thought he should have control over.
  11. Maybe it won't happen at the beginning of the season but the infield (except 1B) should be a juggling between Keaschall, Lee, Lewis and Culpepper. Maybe with a little luck 3 of the 4 can be good. 1B - could be ugly. Because it could end with another late signing of.... Ty France. We could get everything else right and 1B and the bullpen could kill us in 2026. I do see Clemens and Martin on the bench as options on the right side of the infield.
  12. I think this is your best point in the Mendez discussion. Other than LH vs RH, Gonzalez and Mendez are pretty similar. There was some talk that Gonzalez on D has improved. Maybe he is a little better on D than Mendez?? Gonzalez OPS #'s seem to be a little better than Mendez. The Twins seem to need RH hitters more than LH hitters right now (though if Mendez could master 1B, that is an opening). Professionals seem to rate Gonzalez higher than Mendez so I guess I rely on them some as well. Finally, Gonzalez has some decent #'s already at AAA. Those are my reasons for protecting Gonzalez and not Mendez in the Rule 5 draft. Good discussion.
  13. Yes, I do. Every year, people overrate how many hitters get taken in the Rule 5 draft. Teams love pitching in that draft. Olivares at A ball is much more likely to get selected than Mendez. I think the Twins believe he won't get selected and that they can add others to the 40 man to replace the agreed upon chaff.
  14. No, he will not make the Twins opening day roster. In fact, he will not get added to the Twins 40 man roster this winter. If anyone is jumping from AA to the majors, it would be Culpepper.
  15. It depends how you define "pitching pipeline." Does trading Petty for Gray mean the pipeline worked in that case? How about trading Cruz for Ryan? Don't think AAA counts, what about trading for Duran who I believed started in AA? Of course, if that counts, then trading Duran for Abel has to count, right? Cleveland has long been touted as having a pitching pipeline. Yet, look how many guys they get via trade.
  16. I think the managerial hire will signal the direction of the offseason. If we are keeping Lopez, Ryan and Ober, I think an experienced manager outside the organization would be hired. If we are going to get rid of some of those guys and then Buxton wants out as well, it will be the best low-cost, probably internal hire.
  17. Same line of thought but I much prefer Brian Dinkleman, and he has been great at developing players.
  18. It's one of the least important stats for minor league starting pitchers. Prielipp could pitch 4 shutout innings, get pulled due to pitch count and not get the win. Bullpens can be bad in the minors so a starter can "lose" their win they could have earned or not get tagged with the loss they deserved.
  19. I was curious on their ages: Hill 19 Klein 23 Prielipp24 Culpepper 24 Ross 23 Olivares 22 Bohorquez 20 Cheney 25 Peschl 22 Baker 26 Morris 24 Need to add to 40 man to avoid Rule 5 draft - Morris, Olivares, Culpepper, Prielipp, Klein, Chaney and Baker. Because everyone loves drafting pitchers and the Twins have plenty of dead weight, I'm adding Morris, Culpepper, Prielipp and Klein. Maybe Olivares but it's tough with him still in A ball.
  20. I think this is true for every organization. Even when Prielipp was only pitching 2-3 innings, he was starting every time. The team is able to control his work, he doesn't miss a day he should have pitched due to rain popping up, he faces the other teams future major leaguers more, etc. Jax and Varland didn't convert until after they hit the majors.
  21. The stuff wasn't much better but the location was. Other factors - the hitters weren't as good, the umpire seemed to have a slightly wide zone to the outside, line drives were caught by Clemens, Vazquez catching, and maybe the batters didn't know what pitch was coming. Everything that went wrong last game went right this game IMO.
  22. It surprises me that the Twins don't push players like Jenkins and Rodriguez more just to go for that extra #1 draft pick. It's not terrible if you find out they do need a little more time at AAA, after getting a taste of MLB. Maybe you find out one of them starts out great and then gets rookie of the year.
  23. No, this site is not restricted to the 10% who have time to watch all the minor league games. Those of us who watch the minor league box scores daily, listen to a few minor league radio broadcasts or read what other expert evaluators say, can comment as well. And there is free speech here so anyone can comment. Highly respect most of your posts but can't disagree more on this one.
  24. The ball didn't hit too far from the right fielder and Martin was hanging very close to second until the ball actually hit, I think he was determined to make third on a tag. I believe he should have been able to tell that it was going to drop in time to make it home, but that didn't happen. Nobody out at the time as well. Certainly don't want to get doubled off of 2nd. If he makes a small error, he made the right one.
