  1. They didn't like the return for Plouffe in the off-season, gave him 7M, and never really considered the possibility that his value would DECLINE. Well it has because next year he's at 10M. There's nothing to be done. He's injury prone, below average hitter, who is overpaid. They played their hand poorly and are now stuck.
  2. Main thing is: Plouffe is a $7 M player right now, and going to be more next year. Writing is on the wall. He will not be given an offer by the Twins. That's wasted inventory in a major way. Hard to understand how the Twins FO became so feckless about roster construction.
  3. Trade him already. Somehow the Twins value their assets so far above the market assessment. So far that they are the worst team in the league. Think about it... the Twins can't trade their young talent because they are on the verge of being so good. And, they can't trade their veterans because they are the glue that holds the team together and won't get fair market value. Meanwhile, the Twins and their players, young or old, are just plain lousy. Hello? No one values the Twins players because they are on a lousy team and underperform and aren't worth anything -- in Plouffe's case, $7M, is a lot of clams. Trade him for a bag of fries. Anything!
  4. The hope that the Twins could flip Ricky for some A-ball middle infielder is now gone. There was nothing, nothing he threw last night that was not roped.
  5. Another baseball season comes to this: looking at MiLB box scores late, hoping for a small ray of hope that this torment of ineptitude will find a tourniquet. And, not finding it.
  6. Blame the kids, send them down. Keep trotting out the Vets, they have proven they can get it done. Total system failure means that every cog is either worn or broke. Dozier has got to be on the radar at this point.
  7. Just once, I would like a Twins highly-touted prospect to come up and play really well in MLB. Come to think of it, both Sano and Rosario did that last year, Santana and Vargas the year before, maybe even Escobar. Okay, I would like someone to sustain their level of production. Or, have Berrios or Buxton or Kepler simply go off and shine. Twins, can't catch a break, a prospect or a solid veteran. Nothing is working on any cylinders.
  8. The Twins have worse players than Joe, for sure. But not any that are as highly paid to perform well and lead the team. That's the problem. He's the Twins iconic on-field, off-field presence, and currently, and for the last three years, he is simply an Average Joe. Not worth $23MM, not by a long shot.
  9. I was hoping we could hold them to seven. It's like the 12 days of Christmas. 9 game losing streak, 8 games blown, 7 first inning runs, 6 lousy starts, 5 dumb base running mistakes, 4 stupid manager decisions, three rookies fail, two catchers wasting, and a lost season in 2016.
  10. So we give up a touchdown in the first quarter. Run back the kick-off.
  11. Meyer is with Dick Cheney at an undisclosed location. And also in the FBI secret identity program. He is slated to come back as 6' 9" starting MLB pitcher with a 95 mph heater and a nasty curve ball, that he throws for strikes. You know, build some value so he can be traded for a backup CF.
  12. Kind of a cheap shot by Odor. Who's expecting to get punched out of the blue in a baseball game? Most brawls are about two-hand shoves and a few round-house swings that miss. But, that was a punch. Should be at least a week suspension, I would guess.
  13. MLB pitchers go up and down. As it is, Duffy is fun to watch pitch. And so is Berrios, almost more because you can imagine them becoming really good than because they are dominant. I enjoyed watching Meyer the other night. And my thought was: "Whatever else, do not give up on this guy. He can hurl." Gibson has been the funnest to watch pitch until Duffy and Berrios come along. I hope he doesn't become an enigma, wrapped inside a riddle, surrounded by a conundrum. TR doesn't handle those things well.
  14. That's on Molitor. What's Rosario doing on the bench in a close game in the late innings instead of playing defense for Arcia? That's a rookie mistake, from a HOF player but, second year manager. It cost us a game. It's not rocket science. Game is tied. Play your best defense. Difference between Rosario and Arcia at the plate is what?
  15. Bad baseball teams don't just happen. They are created. Twins ad-libbed the off-season, added another hitter to their log-jam at DH-1B, never resolved Sano and Plouffe and 3B, let their BP languish in hopes of young guys, bet the farm on their starting pitching, hoped injuries wouldn't happen and trusted Molitor to pull it all together. Unfortunately, the rest of the AL Central got better, and the Twins young guys have actually been worse. The result: total collapse.
  16. Well, there's always the minor league reports. Thank you TD for that. On the other hand, the ML Twins are horrible at this point. In fact, it's all about the Minor Leagues at this point. Potential salvation.
  17. Imagine you are the Nats. Two outs, bottom of 14, you got nothing on base and no hope. But, the Twins, who have a lefty pitching and shutting you out, decide that, after a walk, they are going to go to a tired young RH hurler to face your pitcher, a left-handed batter, because, well, because they want their tired young RH hurler to earn a SAVE, thus giving their lefty HIS FIRST WIN. But again, you are the Nats. You're out of bullets. You have to bat an over-the-hill lefty hitter named Oliver Perez. You have NO OTHER CHOICE. But, the Twins pay no attention. There are two outs. They let you steal second. They drop back in the infield. I mean, okay, the Twins are tired. But, don't they want to win? They get beat by a lefty hitting pitcher who bunts by bringing in a RH pitcher, because, because why? X-cruciatingly dumb. The Twins dug, and dug, and dug, until they found a way to lose this game. And now, presumably, they will keep digging. Think about it: The Nats had absolutely nothing going on in the bottom of the 14th and the Twins let them steal a game with their pitcher hitting by bunting with two out. WTF? Really. WTF?
  18. Super-subs can and should play everywhere. Super-sized clean up hitters should play defense at only one position: First Base. Twins are really acting like dummies on this one. You know something bad is going to happen.
  19. Do not discount the possibility the Twins get Nolasco a few more starts and then trade him. I certainly would. If you can get a MLB team to take on that contract, do it. Sure, he looks good now, but he's doing it with sliders and curve balls. Once MLB hitters wise up to that, or his arm gets a little tired from all the torque, he will fall back to earth. Look, if you had said to any of us in February: Nolasco will throw three great games to start the season, would anyone not have taken than in a heartbeat as a chance to get rid of him?
  20. Santana ready by the weekend. Kepler goes down when Santana is ready.
  21. Hard to see and appreciate the positives of an 0 and 9 start, but Mauer has to be one of them. Escobar another one, except for defense. And then, there's the starting pitching and runs allowed overall. It didn't help that the Twins started on the road at, arguably, the two best AL teams. Or that Chicago started hot. It is what it is, but a OBP machine in the middle of the lineup is exactly what is needed to produce scoring opportunities.
  22. I was going to say, "Did the Twins revamp his delivery or something?" Any news of changes in his repetoire? What happened? Twins look loaded with young arms in upper minors. If their young hitters ever come around, they could be a perennial contender, for a few years.
  23. I really hate to make this coinage. You have no idea how much I hope I am wrong: Byron Buston
  24. Man, Buxton getting hosed by every conceivable pitch and sequence. He takes three consecutive balls against Petricka, then two fastballs down the middle. Then swings through a fastball down the middle. Six pitches, watches five and no contact. Not even a decent swing. Looks terribly lost out there. Hate to say it, but you look at Correa for Houston, Lindor for Cleveland, Pederson for LA, Mookie Betts for Boston -- here is Buxton, supposedly the Number 1 prospect in baseball all those years. Flopping miserably. I just don't get why he is so ill-prepared for MLB pitching.
  25. I think he is done, at 33. Can't light up the radar gun. Not much movement. Sure the shoulder hurts, but it hurts a lot worse after the game when you blow the save and everyone can see that you are throwing 90 mph fastballs. Twins have no options with him. Either he can throw at 94 and hit his spots or not. If he can't, there's no where to hide him on the roster. So, they DL him and tell him to get his velo up or .... that's the thing, they have no place to go with this. None.
