  1. A) I want a team with defined goals and a plan that is consistent with said goals. Options, hand-waving, excuses, and aw-shucks are not acceptable. I expect more of the same, until the Twins actually have a winning season--then I expect to hear endless self-congratulations about management skill and "doing things 'The Twins Way', rather than taking shortcuts". C) I think the Twins are on a river in Egypt.
  2. Especially after Wednesday's game.
  3. IR List--or how to play "the depth" without committing to them. Ryan has stated many times how he "likes options"--so this is no surprise. Eventually decisions have to be made--though avoiding them is what is "par for course". Since 2015 [should have been known by all] to be a "building season" giving "tastes" to "the options" is OK. But soon the hard decisions, commitments, have to be made--and kept!
  4. If there is no trade (say to StL or whoever) and no further DL-injuries, then don't make changes. Play the people you have and force them to work through their problems. This constant advocating of rotating players based on short term results (especially by those would play a team of every prospect ever touted) is nonsense. Baseball is a long season, there will be ups and downs, accept and work through them. 2015 wasn't projected as anything other than "a building season" anyway--so let's use 2015 to develop players.
  5. No. Wait until the season is at least 1/3 and preferably 1/2 played before changing. There is no need to change now. Consider this, what if Hicks stumbles his first ten games? Then what? Send him back? Stick with for a month? The rest of the year? This is like making a line-up card by who is playing well (or poorly) right now.
  6. An OF who can hit for both average and power (and please not the dreaded 5-tool designation, because none of them the draft are...) should be first choice. SS wind up being "slap-and-dash" guys--which is OK if said player actually is a top SS--but with so many SSs in the system (I'm including the projected Dominican 16-yr old), that type isn't worth a 1-6 selection.
  7. If the photo shown of Arcia is the play vs KC referenced--this is no "can of corn". Many of the same posters that scream for "play the young guys"--give up very quickly on a guy when he struggles. This what leads to a team of Shafers, Escobars, Milhones, Suzukis,...you get my drift. You can't demand the Twins play the "young, high-up-side" guys" then quit on them before one month is up--no, you commit to them. Just like the Twins committed to Plouffe and Dozier.
  8. I didn't see the play, but if it "was a can of corn" (The Hawk did not invent this phrase!), moving nonchalantly is expected. Anything else is embellishing. Dropping the ball? How does this play differ from those pop-ups dropped in LF (by others)? They were easy plays also--do you immediately pull the player for muffing an easy play? Then there were some plays a few games ago in the infield, Dozier and Santana mad errors on basic plays. Bench them too? My point is: discipline is done privately and quietly--not immediately and publicly.
  9. I am wondering why all of the hand wringing? There was plenty of evidence that 2015 was a "mark time" season--and oh soo many posts in TD. Let all of this play out for two months. Then, look at Hicks, the RPs at Rochester, and any other position player that is both a legitimate prospect at AAA and having a strong season. Every year from 2011 has had an over-heavy MiL element starting for the Twins come mid-season. It is like a "give-up" signal and a losing season snowballs to 90+ losses. I believe by letting all-of-this "marginal major-leaguer" strategy play-out to its conclusion will convince top management that this is a failing strategy. Then, a change will be made to "bite-the-bullet" and "play the future", showing patience while taking the inevitable lumps. In short, no more "this guy stinks" after two weeks, "demote him and promote someone else". PATIENCE is required.
  10. Frankly, it is too soon to make wholesale changes. The desperate moves of Escobar and Nunez to the OF smack of front office interference. This is what we saw with Gardenhire as manager. I am now convinced that said changes were Front Office inspired. Play who you have (except for injuries or suspension) and build continuity. After 8 weeks, then consider making changes.
  11. No one can say if that was the way to go (or not)--but we can't go back to 2014 anyway!
  12. Patience at AAA with Meyer--with the caveat that this is his last year as a starting pitcher prospect. Either he demonstrates that he can start for the Twins--or off to the bullpen he goes!
  13. After this season, if Meyer can't find the strike zone, it's time to banish him to the bullpen--probably at AA--and write-off the Span trade as a total loss.
  14. The top two prospects had a wasted 2014 due to injury. They will spend all 2015 to try to accomplish what was expected in 2014. Combine that with "The Kris Bryant Syndrome" and we should not expect to see them in a Twins uniform until the third week of 2016. Relief pitchers have the best chance of "getting here" this season due to need and the plethora of candidates in the minors. Those that have already been in the majors have the next priority--with the following caveats, two months of consistently high performance in the minors and not being an IFer (sorry boys, those jobs are filled). There is room in the rotation, but the same two-months will be required. But, I expect a quick hook (two weeks) if results are poor--they can return later in 2015. I only expect one promotion to the rotation at a time. There are guaranteed contracts in force, even if posters don't like them!
  15. There isn't a manager present or past that could win with this bunch. The Twins put themselves in a weak position about "hitting strategy" with their treatment of Plouffe and Dozier. One can hardly blame Arcia (or anyone else) who swings for fences on every pitch when they have such prime examples (Dozier and Plouffe) right in front of their noses. Then for good measure toss in Ortiz (BOS) and any of the major HR hitters and their too often low BAVG--but very high salaries. People can post about defense (and OBP) until their fingers fall off, but they see people with high HR totals, indifferent (or worse!) defense, and run-of-the mill OBP but with huge salaries. Money shouts, but lectures get ignored.
  16. The continuing presence of virtually the entire Front Office, not just Ryan. It reads like a cult, and it takes years of vetting to gain trust in the organization. One assumes the mindset of the group--or out you go. Until there is a clean sweep, I can't see much change in results.
  17. Not true. I used to buy a cheapo ticket and sit in the upper deck of CF to watch Hunter 8+years ago. I sure wouldn't today!
  18. Posters, we need to refocus our sights. Instead of "playoff contention" (of which it was frequently stated in TD this off-season wasn't happening), we should compete for "draft position"--an attainable goal. Long term this will prove far more useful than a random extra win a month.
  19. Poor defense? Yes, but 2 HBP and a bases-loaded walk in the 8th--there's no defense in the world that can save that pitching.
  20. Hunter didn't have a prayer to catch that ball. His error came on the misdirected throw to the infield.
  21. May got hammered in the 6th--his pitches were flat and "up". Arcia actually caught one that I didn't think he had a chance. But the bullpen...let me be generous and say "they didn't minimize". Two on, two in, no outs--and HBP, HBP, then a ridiculous error, and then even more... . It wasn't all due to bad defense--but I didn't see many Twins pitchers miss bats (Ks) either, and there were plenty of hard-hit balls by KC hitters.
  22. All of you posters who were screaming that Hicks needed to be sent down to Rochester--raise your hands. I sure hope that there isn't anyone of that group posting today that Hicks should be with the Twins in any capacity--Hicks can be in two places.
  23. Hmm, 5 runs allowed isn't great.
  24. It's a great day for a ballgame--too bad there isn't one!
