    Here is a breakdown by team: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2025-mlb-international-signings-tracker/ Aside from the fact that there 300+ 16 year old signed on a single day reflecting a messed up system, it’s interesting to look at the breakdown of where these kids are from. The vast majority are from the DR and Venezuela, maybe just ballparking here 50% and 45% respectively. Cuba appears next, then Colombia (Twins have one), then Mexico. Then there a few from Panama, and then really just a random assortment of countries; Japan, Aruba, Bahamas, Nicaragua, Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Italy, Haiti (Twins), and most unusual Uganda. This seems like a pretty big market inefficiency. Are 90%+ of the talented 16 year old baseball players in the world (outside of the U.S.) really from the DR or Venezuela?

    Fair, and it is worth reviewing each case rather than making some blanket conclusion. However, it is probably also true that the FO may feel less allegiance to a player who goes through the arbitration process to the end.

    Also, in the Dan Hayes piece in the Athletic, he notes that previous Twins who went to arbitration included Nick Gordon (traded), Jose Berrios (traded), and Luiz Arraez was about to go to arbitration, but they traded him before they even got there! So, if you like playing on the Twins, don’t go to arbitration.
