  1. Good eye, and good ability to check his swing.
  2. Damn. Hunter was dying to hit that 2-0 pitch after the catcher went out to the mound. Swung at a pitch at his eyes.
  3. Royals lose 2-0. Chance to pick up .5 game to start the around half.
  4. Great read, and have me cause for optimism for his HOF case, which I thought was fading fast. Would be nice if Joe could make another run at batting title and some post-season glory to put a good finish. It may also help that in the post-testing era, aging curves will likely return to normal.
  5. And announcers like Blyleven further the myth of the utility of the "productive out." I'm with Chief. Hit the ball. Quit giving away your outs.
  6. I watched the pre-game show of the All-Star Game with my sons, and the first few innings. They had lots of highlights from the first half, yet literally the only Twins clip was of Torii throwing a temper tantrum. I can't believe they didn't show the Hicks' Willie Mays catch-even though he was actually there. It got me thinking that it would be nice to see the Twins get back to more than an afterthought. It made me think it would be nice to see Sano and Buxton, and Mauer again as All-Stars. Hicks could turn into an "it takes a while for it all to click" type player...a player with raw talent, high draft pedigree, but early career struggles. Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, Glen Perkins...Aaron Hicks? Not all above average players excel immediately.
  7. I agree with John...that Sano quote sounds like bulletin board material.
  8. The Twins were not winning when Suzuki put up impressive offensive numbers. Maybe his secret is hitting poorly.
  9. Well, the Twins start the second half in Oakland, so that means....(I don't even have to mention it....)
  10. I just looked up on bbref the following: how many 5+ WAR seasons, and when was the most recent such occurrence? Dozier: 1-2014 Lucroy: 1-2014 Papelbon: 1-2006 Mauer: 5-2013 Tulowitzki: 6-2014
  11. May gives up a lead-off double and a single, but manages to escape the inning without a run scoring. That turned out to be big.
  12. I was finishing watching the season five finale of Game of Thrones, and stopped checking the game in the 8th, when they were down 6-0. Then when I was going to bed, I checked my phone for the score. I had to blink twice, because the score didn't compute. I first read it as an 8-6 loss, and thought, oh, they made a game of it. And then, I realized that 8 was in the Twins column. Yowza! I think Dozier is...Arya Stark?
  13. I would like Arcia up for Robinson. Start him in RF 2-3 days a week for Torii vs RHP, and have him take one start a week from Rosario, and one from Mauer, and you are set.
  14. Doesn't it seem like if you focus low and away, he will become a .400 OBP player, still with 25 homers?
  15. Is Gibson turning into a strikeout pitcher? Last 9 starts: 58.1 IP, 53 Ks.
  16. I was going to say after Sunday's game that I took a lot of positives away from the series: 1)Mauer starting to heat up 2)Thompson proving he didn't belong 3)KC has 40% of their rotation made up of Blanton and Guthrie (and Duffy isn't getting it done) 4)Ervin Santana is for real. 5)Sano is going to score some runs for this team. I think the Twins could give KC a fight for the division. Now, Buxton, get healthy.
  17. You obviously haven't been watching much Little League baseball these days.
  18. Sano now hitting .445/.544/.722. OPS 1.266. Small sample size?
  19. The thing I don't get..,.was the decision always "use him in extremely high leverage situations" or "option him"? Don't get me wrong--glad he is gone....I just wish it didn't take costing games to realize his ineffectiveness. Was it the hair?
  20. I'm personally hoping they win 75 games in the second half of the season. Too much to ask?
  21. Mauer July stats: .462/.500/.769, OPS 1.269 Although Rosario (and Sano) are out hitting him right now.
