  1. His first year starting, and he wears down a bit at the end? That makes sense. Hopefully he falls. With the number of relievers the Twins have drafted, you have to think a converted reliever, who this has less mileage on his arm, would be right up the Twins' alley.
  2. That's kind if my inclination as well...he has the longest track record and seemingly the most upside. The problem is Jeremy keeps hinting that his elbow is likely destroyed.
  3. Meant that those off years are written off, not the players.
  4. A college bat that has only come up big for 60 games. Doesn't seem like a Twins pick, or enough of a track record for me. Sure, he outplayed other hitters in his conference, but again, short sample size. This gets back to my general comment about the draft. How can there be so much volatility? Prospects and even big leaguers can have entire years that suck and are basically written off because the true talent level comes to the fore eventually. Why in the month lead-up to the draft is there "helium"? Can't a bigger picture be divined for these guys?
  5. Great article. Is one lesson from this article (and Berrios is a great example that fits the theory) that the Twins should have taken Nola over Gordon?
  6. 1) Duffey is arguably a top-3 pitching prospect for the Twins? I'd find that a tough argument to make. But I'm open to listening. 2)Buxton another triple. This kid is crazy. Is he simply always taking third on doubles? 3)Sano with a triple too. Guessing his triples aren't like Buxton's. But still, he's quite athletic. 4)Vargas is responding quite well to the demotion.
  7. No. The whole point of the amazing and counterintuitive research by Voros McCracken (sp) was that a baseball that is hit fair by a batter that wasn't a homerun will be converted in to an out about 30% of the time, regardless of who is pitching. If a pitcher has balls fall for hits 42% of the time one year, his overall numbers will look awful, and much worse than his career norms. You can expect regression to his career norms. If a pitcher has 22% of the balls put in play fall for hits, his numbers will be much better than his career numbers, and will likely worsen later. Fielding ability doesn't really effect BABIP in the big picture either. That's how you can have pitchers in the same rotation in the same year with wildly different BABIP.
  8. I was in CR for Gonsalves rain-shortened start last week, and sat behind Felix Jorge and a couple of other pitchers with radar guns. Gonsalves was hitting 91/92 on all of his fastballs, and the scoreboard was definitely 2-3 mph slow.
  9. That was a great game. Only time I'll be in MInnesota this summer, and nice Twins win. May was quite good; too bad he gave up the Beckham homer, would have been a nice start giving up only one. It also didn't hurt that I caught a foul ball. It came straight back and I snared it...the woman behind me seemed appreciative that I saved her life/her from spilling her beer.
  10. Interesting read, especially about the off-season regimen and the added movement. Hope Pelfrey keeps it up. Or down, I guess.
  11. Having two CF is not a problem, in my opinion. Lots of options associated with that eventuality.
  12. Attribution: http://www.si.com/more-sports/2012/05/22/byron-buxton
  13. "It was earlier this month, the second round of Georgia's Class AA state playoffs. In the first inning of the Pirates' game against Coosa High, Buck walked and stole second. "He was on second base when our hitter hit a ball to fairly deep rightfield," said Pollack. "It wasn't like there was a bobble, the rightfielder fielded it pretty cleanly. But Buck tags up, and runs to third, then turns the corner, and runs home. And he scores. I didn't even know it was possible.'" And that was the day Buck scored from second on a sacrifice fly."
  14. The SI article about Buxton before the draft cited how Buxton would score from second tagging up on fly balls.
  15. The Twins also have the best record in baseball since the calendar turned to May, and have allowed the fewest runs. And driven in the fewest runs, but that is only "fun", not fun.
  16. With the 1-run shutout win last night, the Twins moved to 3-3 in shutout games and 3-3 in 1-run games. With an 11-12 record the Twins are in third place in their five-team division. There are 13 MLB teams with a better record, 5 teams with the same record, and 11 teams with a worse record.
  17. If the Twins catch the pop up in the 8th inning, there are two outs, and the go ahead run likely doesn't score. The Twins could have scored in the 8th...or possibly Miggy doesn't bat in the 9th (he would have been third up.) little things can make a big difference.
  18. Does allowing a pop-up that falls untouched on the pitching mound count as a hit?
  19. Twins are trying hard to lose this game.
  20. Would the run have scored from first if Schaefer pulls up?
  21. What was Arcia doing on that fly ball? He was 100 feet away from Schafer when the ball landed. Was he planning on being the cut-off?
  22. Buxton was given two days off, and that seemed to have worked. Doug M seems like a creative streak when it comes to managing.
  23. True. That line of questioning is reserved for the 10-year old.
  24. My 7-yr old wants to know why Robinson Cano did not run hard on his ground out.
