  1. O'Rourke has a future in the booth. Funny guy.
  2. If I lived in the Cities, I'd do it, and encourage as many of my friends as I could to follow suit. "What ya up to tonight?" "Nothin much." "Ballgame!"
  3. Look at the uppercut on this kid. http://cdn.quotesgram.com/img/40/68/1081434051-1395768241000-Batter-Up-Charlie-Brown-cov.jpg
  4. My list: Greene Greene Greene Greene Greene Greene Greene Greene Greene Who knows what this prodigy is capable of.
  5. Until some of you all got MLB cred, i.e., more than a computer with internet and an opinion, hence a job in the system, I'm thinking our new brain-trust probably knew what they were doing better than they are gettting credit for here. Baseless predictions, what ifs, shoulda woulda couldas: yeah I know that is what hot-stove is all about, but these guys are in the business of winning ballgames, and keeping Dozier seems like a solid move toward that goal.
  6. Some got OPB guys would help this team a lot, especially if the K isn't a major part of their resume. Base hits are good.
  7. But is it an outlier if it is part of a trend of continuous improvement? 2017 will only be his 5th full season in the majors. His power numbers have increased each season, and last year he appeared to turn a corner in terms of using the whole field and becoming a better overall hitter. He might just be hitting his groove as an MLB hitter. Kinsler, Pedroia, and Cano have all continued to be highly productive into their mid 30s: to assume Dozier will be done by 31 is also quite a presumption. I'd like the Twins to trade him if they get a nice haul, but a single pitcher who has had health issues in the past is not adequate, not at all.
  8. Nice in-depth look: will enjoy reading future installments.
  9. Good for Plouffe - I can really cheer for him in Oakland as well.
  10. And if you develop a surplus of desirable prospects, then your GM goes to work. I'd rather have 5 elite CF prospects to work with than average players across the diamond that "fill a need."
  11. The Compleat Beatles songlist: Brian Dozier trade edition. Please please me I should have known better Can’t buy me love No Reply You’re gonna lose that *girl[*trade] She said she said[Dave said Dave said] And your bird can sing[substitute Dave’s source for bird] Tomorrow never knows Lucy in the sky with Diamonds [we dreamin/trippin] Hello Goodbye [already mentioned?] Baby you’re a rich man[after the lucky suitor’s extension to BD] The continuing story of Bungalow Bill[er, Brian Dozier] I’m so tired [of waiting] Come together[and make a bloody deal] Here Comes the *sun [*trade] I should have known better[already mentioned?] Don’t let me down[already mentioned?] I’ve got a feeling The long and winding road[already mentioned?] Apologies to others already mentioned.
  12. One more: Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Missisippi Kid.
  13. Mauer tied his highest home run total (11) since the MVP campaign in 2009, i.e. one less than Park had in 244 PA.
  14. Jerry Garcia - Deal....
  15. Husker Du - Everything Falls Apart
  16. Gonna play devil's advocate.... Different situation, but when it came time to decide what to do with Torii, and the Twins let him go and he signed the 5 year deal with the Angels, I do remember hearing a lot of people saying, "have fun paying 36 year old Hunter 18 million." Well, that 36 year old did slash .313/.365/.451, drove in 92. He hit 105 home runs over the course of that deal, and still had something left in the tank. Turns out he wasn't about to decline as predicted. Dozier isn't Hunter, but the assumption is Dozier will fall off, never have his present value, etc. Well, he has improved his slugging every year he's been on the Twins. Who's to say the last half of last season was an aberration, when is was part of a greater overall trend of improvement? Perhaps he's about to take it to the next level. He has only 4.5 years MLB experience. There could be a lot left in the tank. I equate this situation more akin to that of Hunter, Santana, and Cuddyer, homegrown good guys who can play(ie the kind of guys they should keep), to that of Willingham or others who had peak value that slipped through TRs fingers. The Dodgers ain't exactly offering a king's ransom at this point if it's DeLeon and lesser pieces. I think Falvey is right to wait until they give him an offer he can't refuse. One thing Twins fans should be aware of is that prospects are never a sure thing.
  17. Craig Kusick was part of the Lumber Company, but his heir apparent, Bob Gorinski, came up a bit short. I'd gladly have dinner with any of these old Twins. They made the show. 'nuff said.
  18. I'll thank you in advance to lay off my all-time favorite Twins outfield: Hosken Powell, Willie Norwood, and Bombo Rivera.
  19. Wouldn't be surprised to see this kid amount to something. Sounds like he doesn't overthink the game.
  20. This thread is reminding me of the great Steve McQueen poker film, The Cincinnati Kid. Bluff? Call? Raise? Good test for our new brain trust. http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Admin/BkFill/Default_image_group/2011/11/29/1322584486939/cincinnati-kid-poker-vict-007.jpg
  21. He is if you are an armchair GM: •Tremendous trade chip in Dozier •#1 pick in Rule 5 draft •#1 pick in amateur draft. •3 of the top 37 picks in said draft. •Core of former top prospects in Buxton, Sano, Berrios, even Kepler, all who have shown great promise. He's been given a chance to make an impact out of the gates, and has some young guns to work with.
  22. I can see Falvey on the blower to LA: "Buehler ... Buehler...."
  23. It seems to come an go with teams. Looking at the 87 champs, Hrbek, Puckett, Gaetti, Viola, Blyleven, Lombardozzi, Larkin, Bush, and probably others were all Twins picks, and only Gaetti and Puckett were 1st rounders. Boston has the midas touch these days it seems to me: going back to 2002, Bucholz, Ellsbury, Bradley all supplemental 1sts, Pedroia, Lester, Masterson as 2nd rounders, Betts a 5th rounder, Benintendi and Swihart on the way as 1sts. Those are 2 examples some good drafting and developing there. They also show that draft position needn't be a hindrance either, which I hate to say given the premium picks the Twins have had of late.
  24. Nice read - thanks for posting it Mike. Falvey and Levine sure seem pretty sharp.
  25. Pretty rare for the Pioneer Press to have anything better than the Star Tribune.
