  1. Russo and Bernardino are definitely top shelf beat guys, to the point of almost obsessive. LaVelle is pretty good. Perhaps he has a life outside of his job?
  2. You have to achieve competency before competitiveness. If this guy can help them lose less than 90-100 games next season, it's a start.
  3. What's missng from this convo is context: ABW was a member of 3 Champion teams coming through the system. Maybe he was a passenger on all 3, but when you are leading said leagues in HRs, I think he might have come up with some big hits over the years.
  4. Time for the Scooby Doo unmasking - Dave W. is really, Dave St. Peter!
  5. Is the the 1 for 17 you refer to in your signature
  6. Wait, what, huh?! Stop rebuilding brilliantly White Sox dammit.
  7. Hard to argue with that - the guy has done nothing but improve since his debut. Motherlode or nuthin.
  8. LOL - glad to have him back. 2017 might be the breakout year
  9. Until the Twins minor league cupboard is overflowing with top talent, Dozier + deals are a no-go for me. Keep the talent bubbling up from the minors, and buy the rest. When you have top talent in the minors that is expendible/blocked, then you can start dangling prospects. #1 overall plus a nice haul for Dozier sounds like the best way forward to me at this point.
  10. Agree - plus, I enjoyed watching the White Sox resist the rebuild, sign past their prime free-agents, and have no prospects. This sets a dangerous precedent.
  11. Ryan did Falvey a nice favor by signing Dozier to that extension. What a chip to play with during your first winter meetings in charge.
  12. If Stewart became a serviceable, somewhat above average MLB pitcher, that would be fine with me: a more consistent Gibson. We need competency before excellence. Agree with your points about him.
  13. Whaaaa? I had always heard they were friends, from some international tournament or something.
  14. Hoping this wil be looked on as a steal in 5 years.
  15. Build up the middle - catcher and CF is a good start. SS is next. Vielma might be good in that he can help build the solid spine a good defensive team needs. I know a lot of people consider him a punch and judy hitter, but he can handle a bat okay, run some, and doesn't strike out way much more thn he walks. He's only 22 and has mastered AA. Not every shortstop needs to be A-Rod or Jeter.
  16. Let's hope it's not Polhad money....
  17. Where did I get the "too many corner" quote. Bernardino? Didn't Falvey make some kind of reference? Dagnabbit, more questions.
  18. Didn't they cut Walker loose because they had too many corner OF/1B/DH types? How does adding a much older more expensive version of the all or nothing hitter help the rebuild? Haven't the Twins' minor league teams been racking up championships, or at least making playoffs? Doesn't that define building a winning culture from the bottom up? This rumor does nothing but raise questions for me.
  19. Sour grapes from an old North Stars fan - this is what we lost. 50th anniversary, gone. Bringing back Broten, Smith, Bellows into the organization, gone. Statues of Godsworthy, Worsley, Broten, Ciccarelli outside the arena, nope. I love bringing back the best of the old-timers and incorporating winning DNA into the organization.
  20. Hmm, Yimmi, or Yonny ... Yonny or Yimmi. Tough choice.
  21. I read this as Dozier for Italian ice cream. Sounds delicious
  22. Really hate to give him up for nothing. I've been a big fan, but 25 at AAA and 202 Ks make me think that the Brew Crew got Rob Deer 2.0. Like the guy though. I hope the new admin will be more proactive in cutting the losses on prospects by trading at peak value. Have to say, they are off to a good start with reducing redundancies in th organization, even if there is nothing coming back at this point. One thing that gives me pause is that Walker has never repeated a level, yet mashed at league leading levels - would the Ks have dropped as he became more attuned to the pitching? Well, Milwaukee will find out....
  23. Sad day when a decent ballplayer gets waived for bupkis. Agree with the sentiment it was necessary, but Plouffe was a household favoriite, largely because plouffe is the French word for splash. Plus he seemed ike a laid back cool guy.
