  1. If I was about to graduate from college, and someone said, "oh, here's 30K and a job playing baseball," I wouldn't feel ill-used.
  2. Luckily, in baseball you can score gems outside the first few picks. None of Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, Mike Trout, Andrew McCutcheon, or Chris Sale were drafted higher than 7th overall, and the latter 4 were all 11th or later. Rarely is the best player for a draft class the top pick. He got the tools and projectability that give him a pretty lofty ceiling.
  3. The Twins are sure to love his approach at the plate, taking what pitchers give him.
  4. Yeah, I've spent a fair amount of time in Arkansas - Fayetteville is like Austin, or Norman, or Tuscaloosa, a liberal college town in a dead red state.
  5. Well, crap - looks like it's time for a new avatar. I will miss Oswaldo - mismanaged asset to be sure. I really hope he doesn't end up on the White Sox or Tigers.
  6. Twins should try to find a NL team to take Milone. He could do well there.
  7. Hmm, 3 years in Arkansas or more than quarter million dollars at 18. Damn, that's a tough one....
  8. I suspect some of picks 6-10 might also come in under slot. Wouild be nice if they could sign Benninghoff.
  9. MLB had this to say about Rooker: Senior, so he could be a nice add to the system for cheap.
  10. The latter half of their top ten look like guys who might sign below slot. That could help for guys like Benninghoff.
  11. Speaking of Cody, our friend Kyle has yet to get picked - guess he made a mistake there. Baddoo looks like a nice consolation prize there. Really glad MLB gives you something for those who don't sign.
  12. Interesting to see 2 OF, 1 C, and 1 IF in the first 4 picks, and 0 P. Looks like hitters are the priority this year, and no quck fix college bats either. Very interesting indeed.
  13. Here's more fuel for the fires of regret, Big league shtew's all stars: NL catcher hurts ... always hated that deal. https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/roundtable--which-player-deserves-more-all-star-votes-173342031.html
  14. Still don't see how mashing away at AAA is gonna help him figure out how to hit major league pitching.
  15. Nice to see Turner heating up. If he could just provide average offense, the Twins catching problem might have a long-term solution.
  16. I agree - he seems to be trusting his stuff and going after hitters. That's the way to start your career. He can make adjustemnts as he learns, but I like his mound presence. Umps haven't been really helping him out much yet either.
  17. David McCarty and Willie Banks are good examples of how high national ranking doesn't always equate to big-league stardom. Baseball America allows you to look at the top 100 prospects for every year back to 1990. Very interesting to see some very highly ranked prospects flame out over the years, a la Brien Taylor or Todd Van Poppel. https://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/all-time#2015 OTOH, quite a lot make it big as well. It's not an exact science.
  18. Oswaldo - he's putting up pretty silmilar numbers to what he had last season before getting hurt. He is whiffing a ton, but he's had some decent at bats, and is geting some clutch hits. Like his potential as a lefty power bat in this Twins ineup.
  19. From this fan's perspective, they are clearly crapping the bed with this guy. I can't even call him a kid he's been around so long. OTOH, perhaps they know something we don't. Still, that was a half-arsed excuse of giving him a chance last night.
  20. #17 - inspired choice. Ox Miller would be proud!
  21. I think the Royals have overperformed the last season and a half. I expect WS Champion hangover this season. The chip has been knocked from their shoulder. OTOH, I don't expect them to utterly flounder in the first to last mode either.
  22. Hard to draw solid conclusions after a cluster^&&* rain delay that limited your best starter to 2 IP.
