  1. Nice in-depth look: will enjoy reading future installments.
  2. Mauer tied his highest home run total (11) since the MVP campaign in 2009, i.e. one less than Park had in 244 PA.
  3. Craig Kusick was part of the Lumber Company, but his heir apparent, Bob Gorinski, came up a bit short. I'd gladly have dinner with any of these old Twins. They made the show. 'nuff said.
  4. I'll thank you in advance to lay off my all-time favorite Twins outfield: Hosken Powell, Willie Norwood, and Bombo Rivera.
  5. Wouldn't be surprised to see this kid amount to something. Sounds like he doesn't overthink the game.
  6. It seems to come an go with teams. Looking at the 87 champs, Hrbek, Puckett, Gaetti, Viola, Blyleven, Lombardozzi, Larkin, Bush, and probably others were all Twins picks, and only Gaetti and Puckett were 1st rounders. Boston has the midas touch these days it seems to me: going back to 2002, Bucholz, Ellsbury, Bradley all supplemental 1sts, Pedroia, Lester, Masterson as 2nd rounders, Betts a 5th rounder, Benintendi and Swihart on the way as 1sts. Those are 2 examples some good drafting and developing there. They also show that draft position needn't be a hindrance either, which I hate to say given the premium picks the Twins have had of late.
  7. You have to achieve competency before competitiveness. If this guy can help them lose less than 90-100 games next season, it's a start.
  8. Ryan did Falvey a nice favor by signing Dozier to that extension. What a chip to play with during your first winter meetings in charge.
  9. If Stewart became a serviceable, somewhat above average MLB pitcher, that would be fine with me: a more consistent Gibson. We need competency before excellence. Agree with your points about him.
  10. Hoping this wil be looked on as a steal in 5 years.
  11. Build up the middle - catcher and CF is a good start. SS is next. Vielma might be good in that he can help build the solid spine a good defensive team needs. I know a lot of people consider him a punch and judy hitter, but he can handle a bat okay, run some, and doesn't strike out way much more thn he walks. He's only 22 and has mastered AA. Not every shortstop needs to be A-Rod or Jeter.
  12. Sad day when a decent ballplayer gets waived for bupkis. Agree with the sentiment it was necessary, but Plouffe was a household favoriite, largely because plouffe is the French word for splash. Plus he seemed ike a laid back cool guy.
  13. Nice plan - my quibble: I'd like the 4th outfielder to provide speed and great defense, neither of which is Grossman.
  14. Garver is better already than any of these guys.
  15. What do you call it when you give the reins to a new, young management team, and full time positions to a bunch of young players who still have everything to prove at the Major League level? Does a team need to wipe the slate entirely clean of veterans for it to qualify as a rebuild?
  16. Hopefully this will stop all the second guessing of the Twins brain-trust that goes on here. Or WILL it?
  17. I was wondering why the Twins would want to sign the singer from the Offspring for their pitching staff, then I realized it was Derek Holland, not Dexter.
  18. Disagree with: •Santiago, we need pitching, so we trade a competent pitcher? •Santana ... ditto., double, as he is actually good. •OF filler. Buxton needs to play, along with Kepler, Escobar, and any of the guys knocking: Palka, Walker, English, Granite. Don't want any rehash vets. •Mauer is a platoon guy for me. 3 years of pretty steady decline. Let him and Vargas battle for 1B, and Park and Vargas battle for DH. Sunken cost is what it is, only 2 more years. Ease him out gracefully, like Manchester United is doing with Rooney. Don't want Joe taking at bats from Sano or the outfielders. Overall, nice thoughts though.
  19. Buxton is also a new and apparently devoted father. http://www.twincities.com/2014/01/25/twins-prospect-byron-buxton-a-natural-as-a-father-too/ I can attest, you are only young once, but your children's youth is exceedingly short; they change so quickly. Not sure if this is his motive, but if I had a choice, I'd pass on winter ball and spend quality time with my son.
  20. I don't see the Twins making a signing like Lester. That kind of money is reserved for the biggest markets. The rest of it could certainly be within their grasp. The Orioles might have got Hardy for Hoey, but that shrinks in comparison to giving Arrieta to the Cubs.
  21. Waiting till he's fully grown to work on breaking balls? Sounds good to me.
  22. In the words of Calvin Griffith, " I really like that kid." Hey, Dwight Gooden broke into the majors at 19. Give him a couple years in the minors to work on the secodary offerings and boom, potential ace.
