  1. I'm not sure how important it is for your point, but he didn't say Doumit had been the 2nd best player since Willingham went on the DL, he said 2nd best hitter.
  2. They can't disable him just cause they want to and no, sending him down won't affect his options. Options are a yearly thing. Since he was already optioned this season, they could yo-yo him all year long between AAA and the majors and they still will have only burnt one option for this year.
  3. Difference is, Epstein wasn't President and Hoyer wasn't GM of the Cubs for years prior to being re-hired by the Cubs and, therefore, didn't help create the mess they inherited when taking over after the 2011 season. The disaster seasons that were 2011 and 2012 were very much assisted by Ryan in his first term with the team. There's no comparing the two situations
  4. Or more importantly, a lack of pitching and a mismanagement of the bullpen. Scored plenty of runs...gave up too many runs.
  5. Don't we have this question already figured out?
  6. I believe it's even less than 63M. Morny makes 14M, Pelfrey makes 4M, Blackburn makes 5.5M, Carroll made 3.75M. That's 27.25M. We're somewhere around 80M this year. So more like mid-50M.
  7. I'm not sure is more cynical...that Ryan will mostly stick with pitchers now, or that he'll go out and sign the kind of pitchers he signed this year. Both seem equally unappealing. I guess we should flip a coin and see which is worse and call the other side cynical... Anyway, wouldn't this place be more joyful if we never criticized Gardy, Ryan or Pohlad and kept our critical comments to the players only? Or maybe just Morny and Mauer since they're the high priced guys? It'd cut down on actual reality, but maybe it'd stop the name calling...which is supposed to be curbed...
  8. Hmmm, I guess waiting till he started to do well wasn't as bad of an idea as some thought.
  9. I understood your math from the beginning, but perhaps you should read the post I was responding to carefully, focus on the 'edit' part of his post, and then read mine again. As far as your question, I already answered it in one of the earlier posts on this thread.
  10. Well, we had 50 wins last year after 117 games played...ended up with 66. In 2011, we had 52 wins after 117 games and ended with 63. Complete implosion isn't out of the realm of possibility.
  11. He wasn't asking what people are hoping will happen...that's a different thing entirely. We all HOPE for better pitching. He was saying how he thought it would turn out and asking what others thought. It's a completely legitimate topic of discussion, whether you like it or not. As far as all that money coming off the books being spent, money was available this year to spend too. The Twins four pitchers that you show as being added, three were coming off of injury and the other had never been even league average as a starter. That's nothing to aspire to or hope for, anyway. His scenario isn't any worse than THAT...
  12. I can't agree about the defense improving...while the middle IF has clearly turned gold glove caliber, the OF is as bad as it can be and 3B is still a mess. Going by defensive efficiency, we're 28th in the majors. We were 18th at season's end last year.
  13. Could very well happen...I do not with your assessment of available FA SPs, but I'm guessing he'll get another bottom-feeder or he goes with Diamond or Worley.
  14. I predicted 65-97...so record-wise, I said they were better than expected. I don't think the talent is better than expected at all.
  15. Yup...not winning but having a great farm system is what every team should aspire too. :-)
  16. I'm not sure the talent is any better than we thought, but the record sure is...at least IMO. I think Gardy and his coaching staff have to get some credit for that if they end up winning that many games.
  17. The link that I posted said 3,208,600 though...so I asked. Apparently the article was wrong.
  18. I believe he averaged less Ks per 9IP in the minors before being promoted than Slowey did before he got promoted. So far, he doesn't seem to have any more than the rest in K ability. I want to be wrong, I hope I'm wrong...I probably am wrong...but it's what I see right now.
  19. We assume we have OF covered...but right now, do we know FOR SURE our guys will be quality MLB OFs any time soon?
  20. we have 5 spots in the rotation, we can really only have one #4 and one #5, but it sure seems some like some have no issues with minimizing expectations of pitchers saying, it's not so bad cause he'll be an ok #4 or #5. We shouldn't be okay with saying that about 3, 4 or even 5 of our expected starters next year.
  21. Don't they have a bigger payroll than we do this year?
  22. He would have remembered...the record books would have also...just because some want to minimize it cause it isn't a popular accomplishment doesn't make it irrelevant.
  23. A few years back, when we were competitive in the division with a not so highly ranked farm system and no payroll flexibility, I don't remember thinking that I'd rather be in the Royals shoes cause they had a very highly ranked farm system but a bad major league team. They were in that position for quite a few years...and I sure don't remember saying, MAN, I wish we were like them...
  24. I'm watching the MLB Network and they think the Royals are legit. I think they have a good chance to make it this year and they seem to think they can as well. They also said if Moore doesn't make the moves he made this offseason, no way they are near the playoff scene. I agree with that too. Their offense is lackluster, but a lot of guys are under-performing based on last year...some are coming on now. I like them. I hope they make it. And I'd rather be where they are now...they have time to rebuild the farm system and their position players are still young.
  25. That throw was unbelievable!
