  1. yeah, that's a play it by ear type of thing. I'm not suggesting tanking games or anything but if we have people we want to get experience for next year, our first priority should be towards that.
  2. Exactly, and with more teams in the playoff hunt than ever before (with the 2nd wild card), more teams will be playing all out, not using their expanded roster that much. A team like ours could have players benefit playing against those kind of teams
  3. Exactly...nothing at all dirty with that slide. A middle IF can't just plant his feet where he did and throw and not expect to be hit. I'm speculating that perhaps in Japan, baserunners don't attempt to break up DPs by taking players out at 2B. It was one of the first things I learned as a shortstop. Get the out, then get out of the way. I wonder how the phantom play at 2B on double plays, which is allowed in order to protect players from injury, will be affected by the new replay system? I hope managers are smart enough to continue to let those go.
  4. Let's hope they do better than they did in 2011 at end of season. That year they had exactly the same win-loss record as they do this year after 123 games. They ended up winning only 63.
  5. That's the result when you're up there praying to be walked :-) JK, sort of...
  6. Gardy didn't go out of his way to protect Carroll saying things like if everyone else was doing their jobs, no one would talk about Carroll not hitting....Gardy never said signing Carroll was the teams #1 offseason priority and if signed would right away be his starting shortstop...Gardy never said wherever Carroll plays he's the best defender on the field. I'm still convinced most people didn't hate Punto. The man gave his all every time he was put in the lineup. People had issues with the way Gardy utilized him, fawned over him, defended him, etc. They also may have had issues with Gardy preaching fundamentals to everyone and disregarding Punto's disregard for fundamentals.
  7. IMO, they were always going to have him at 2B...they talked about him playing there because of his arm even before ST happened. Then they 'made the decision' as they said in ST to play him at 2B...as if that decision wasn't made much earlier. Not only that, but Gardy came out and said he liked Casilla at shortstop and he would compete with Hardy for the starting job at shortstop (this was about a week before Hardy was traded..and before the Nishi signing)
  8. Try to remember we were losing Hardy while gaining Nishi. Many were happy with getting Hardy and ticked off for him being traded. Maybe THAT had something to do with the less than warm thoughts on Nishi's signing.
  9. worse last time...last game they often had the game in like half screen and the other half screen the commenters were being shown while yapping
  10. Don't know too much about him but they just said the Twins gave him a bonus of almost a million. For a 10 round pick thats a bunch
  11. Sounds like they are going to talk right through this whole game like they did for the last minor league game they aired.
  12. I ASKED jimbo what he meant by his post. I wasn't sure, so I asked his meaning. Someone else answered and said he was 5th along with two other guys. So I said that's not 2nd. Jimbo, who posted the post I questioned, still hasn't answered. I'm not exactly sure you have a valid complaint about my post. And if you read the posts I've written on this thread, I'm a huge supporter of Dozier...I have always believed in him...so, again...
  13. Which is a little bit different than 2nd
  14. That makes it seem you're saying he's the 2nd best 2B in baseball. You're not actually saying that are you? I've been a supporter of him since before he ever hit the majors. Argued that he should make the team, prior to last year's ST even starting, and even I don't think he's the 2nd best 2B in baseball.
  15. Hmmm. I don't think they had much of a choice even if they had no issue with it...which they very likely did.
  16. after another beating.
  17. I wasn't smart enough to understand it :-)
  18. I read it quite awhile ago...it's an older article

  20. IMO, I think as time goes on, we'll see Arcia is quite a bit worse than Kubel was on defense. Kubel took good routes and had a good arm, range was his issue. Arcia is like Willingham and Delmon Young bad out there.
  21. I have no doubt about that...I also don't blame anyoen for not serving..that wasn't really what I was saying. He was talking about how Tillman choosing to serve had less an affect on the general public than MLB players who chose to serve back in the day.
  22. That's because we live in more of a 'Me' society than ever before. Less patriotic, less respectful towards the officials we elected, and much, much more about 'how is this going to help me, specifically.' The whole 'ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country' speech would never be given today.
  23. Here's a good article on the sacrifice bunt. BE AWARE, I am not giving an opinion one way or the other, just providing a link to read. Agree with it, don't agree with it...doesn't matter. It's a good read. The Sacrifice Bunt: The Real Rally Killer | FanGraphs Baseball
  24. Wouldn't Trout and Buxton be considered the same generation? :-)
  25. Who do we have to trade that teams will actually want to give up a quality pitcher for? No one on the active roster who doesn't have a no-trade clause. People also seem adamant about not trading Sano... So, who to trade exactly? Seems some believe we can trade some of our not so highly ranked prospects and land gold star pitching. Not sure how that's going to happen or why one would think it could.
