  1. When talking about the Morneau trade, I was told Ryan looked ashamed of himself in the footage they showed. Wouldn't look at the camera or the interviewer. Tone was solemn.
  2. I guess my disconnect was what long term meant. This offseason doesn't seem a long ways away. I also didn't see how we'd need to go through winter negotiations with him if we didn't want him anyway...so avoiding something unnecessary didn't occur to me.
  3. Cool...good info...thanks for that...so that's one...18 years ago.
  4. How many times has a player been traded during the season and then gone back to the team that traded him after that season ended? I keep seeing this point brought up. How many times has it happened? Anyone know?
  5. Pinto and Hermann catching pretty much the rest of the way could have happened anyway...regardless. Mauer and Morny could have done the DH/1B thing.
  6. and trading a player with a month left helps us in the long run? Where's the benefit in the long run.
  7. Pinto was already going to come up...already going to play. Colabello turns 30 this year. He's as much a prospect as Thomas is...in fact, he's just slightly older than Thomas.
  8. Colabello isn't a young guy. He's not a prospect. As far as Parmellee goes, they've had plenty of opportunities to give him a shot, they've chosen not to. Moving Morny isn't going to change that. The OF they got is more of the same...Thomas/Ramirez. These are OF that shouldn't be in the mix, period. Getting another one does nothing for us. So, I ask, which young guys get a look with Morny being traded?
  9. Who are the young kids who will get more looks with Morny gone?
  10. explain how this trade is likely a net positive for the Twins in the long run.
  11. I wonder if this trade will replace the trade Ryan is most proud of. That was salary dump too.
  12. It would for sure...but I doubt our GM goes past what he thinks any FA is worth, in years or dollars, regardless of available funds. Doesn't matter whether or not his opinion of what the player is worth is anywhere near accurate or not. He can just keep saying, MAN I can't believe X player got THAT...I can't GIVE our money away...
  13. hey now, nothing wrong with Atari 2600... :-)
  14. With all the money coming off the books, they would have to spend a lot to get it back up to where it is now.
  15. Yeah, I remember them saying that about Slama. I remember not understanding why they cared one way or another how he got those strikeouts, but I got educated on that quickly.
  16. Yup, still need pitching -Twins rotation still has the worst ERA in baseball. Still over 5.00. -Twins rotation still has the worst BAA. Still over .300 -Twins rotation still has the least amount of IP. -Twins rotation still has the worst WHIP. -Twins rotation still has, by far, the least amount of strikeouts. 121 less than the 29th ranked team in Ks. Putting that into perspective. The difference between the 29th ranked team in rotation Ks and the the 16th ranked team in rotation Ks is 121. I wonder how bad the rotation would have been if Ryan didn't put so much effort into improving it this past offseason...
  17. Are Sano and Buxton going to be on the mound? :-) Besides the highlighted part of Mr. Brooks statement specifically said NEXT year. Sano and Buxton won't even be with the team a full season...
  18. Very nice post.
  19. Popular opinion based on...um...nothing isn't much of an argument. Not only that, but since we are waiting for prospects, it's going to be awhile...not just until the players are in place, but for us to filter though the keepers and the non-keepers and for them to get used to the majors. I don't know how short of a time a rebuild needs to be to be considered a short time, but it's been three years, and we're likely looking at three more years, minimum...that's a pretty long time.
  20. I agree.
  21. There are plenty of articles that can explain FIP and it's relation to ERA. I'm not going to cover that here.
  22. I'd say Barney is the best defensive 2B, with Pedroia and Phillips a bit behind him
  23. He won't even use the money available to him much less ask for more.
  24. That's weird...considering we lost our #1 and #2 hitters...it was pretty obvious we'd see a dropoff on offense. I mentioned it many times and I'm hardly the only one.
  25. The Twins operate year to year on payroll. Whatever available money that isn't spent isn't put into payroll in later years. They've said this many times.
