  1. Best not to sign anyone. :-) Pick any FA pitcher out there someone will find fault and reason not to sign him, so just avoid it all and not sign anyone. But on to trading...
  2. Nope, you have to stick to your original opinion, no matter what changes. If, on the off chance, one does try that, they need to hold a press conference and give the whole mea culpa bit and let those who knew better 10 minutes to say I told you so :-)
  3. Look, it's not like Dozier has been in the league for five years, performed weakly, and is just now having a good run. He doesn't even have 200 MLB games under his belt yet. It takes some time to adjust for most major leaguers when first entering the league.
  4. Yes, he got Willingham, Doumit and Carroll...but he lost Kubel, Cuddy and Nathan. Saved a good chunk of money, and did nothing with the saved money.
  5. Fielding Bible voters had Span as the 3rd best defensive CF in baseball. Fangraphs had him at 3rd as well. That's pretty much how I saw it too.
  6. 'A pretty good performance by Correia, you take that every day all year' -Ron Cooomer
  7. Good point. Last year, they were 19th when looking at park adjusted.
  8. Cumulative stats are always affected by number of chances...so if you're talking about the put-out stat, or the DP stat, or the assist stat, then yeah, having a pitching staff that has so many balls put into play affects those numbers in the positive for defense. I'm not quite sure this is what you were asking though. Defensive efficiency ranking done by baseball prospectus has us as rated very low defensively. 28th, to be up to date. Although our middle IF has gotten better, our OF defense has gotten much, MUCH worse...and of course Plouffe is just plain bad. The eye test tells me that, overall, the team has gotten worse on D...it's just that IF defense stands out more.
  9. LOVED that movie!
  10. Funny you should say that... Leary: "But you know here's the thing. I'm sick of the thing in baseball, too, for steroids. We have the drugs, let's just give 'em all the drugs and let them get as big as they wanna get. I'd like to have huge, giantmongous athletes ... biggest people ever, you know. So what if you can throw a shot put 25 yards. I wanna see you throw an actual Olympic official from Athens to downtown Paris. That's what I want." Letterman: "A thousand home runs a season is what I'm looking for." Leary: "Yeah, imagine Babe Ruth on steroid, man. We're talking 150 home runs a week. You know? Not to mention the hookers." Letterman: "Hey, don't mention the hookers."
  11. If you didn't see it, you didn't see it. No apologies necessary :-) It was a very good article, IMO.
  12. I think it has to do with Nick Nelson already having posted it just three days ago.
  13. Back to the topic, has anyone seen any trade rumors in the last day or so concerning Morny now that he's cleared waivers?
  14. Andrus signed the extension like 4 months ago. If they wanted Profar to play shortstop instead of Andrus, why not just trade Andrus instead of giving him his big payday extension?
  15. Not that I've ever heard.
  16. No, again, I thought we were talking about pitchers brought in to help this year's rotation, not future guys. Hence the question.
  17. Ah, I see, sorry...thought he was referring to the pitchers he got to help us this year.
  18. The problem with your remark was that you're talking him choosing between a 4 year deal as opposed to 1 or 2 year deal. That 4 year deal happened way late in the free agency time frame. If a 1 or 2 year deal was offered in the 3 or so months of free agency prior to the 4 year deal being offered, he wouldn't have been choosing between a 4 year deal and a 1 or 2 year deal. He also had no way to know for sure a 4 year deal would EVER be offered...
  19. In February 2011, just under 10% of registered nurses were male, up from 3% in 1970 and 8 % in 2000.
  20. Who was the high-ceiling guy?
  21. If a 2 year offer would have been made earlier in the process, he may have. It took a LONG time for him to be signed. I didn't want him, I'm glad we didn't get him, but that sarcastic response dismisses the fact that it took a LONG time for him to sign and he MIGHT have jumped at a 2 year contract if present much sooner than mid February. A lot of people thought he mis-judged the market and that the Span and Revere trades really hurt him.
  22. My post wasn't really taking a stance of whether or not it would be a good idea to do that, I was just saying that I can't see him doing it. In all honesty, I think there's a better chance of me hitting the Powerball Jackpot lottery than THAT happening.
  23. So you have no response to what he's asking, so you make a personal attack? There's nothing about baseball in this, nothing about the Twins. His post is asking for you to back up your side of a baseball debate.
  24. Do you really envision Ryan trading some of our top prospects for an established top notch kind of pitcher? I can't see him doing that.
  25. I guess it started for me when Gibson was pulled. Not sure I don't see if he can work through that. I know he did the unholy thing and walked a guy, but still. Then Gardy used one pitcher to get one out then yanked him so he could put in another to get another out. Three pitchers burned after 6 innings. It's a little early in the game and too close to do that and assume your bullpen isn't going to get stretched out. I also have an issue with Perkins being used in a non-save situation or for more than an inning, but I get that some disagree with that, and I can respect that differing viewpoint. Overall, I should have said IMO. It's certainly a matter of opinion whether or not the bullpen was used properly.
