  1. Florimon was an error waiting to happen in the minors, about one every 4 games, he's turned into a darn good defensive shortstop.
  2. My post was a joke.
  3. Shields already has 160 innings pitched with 1/3 of the season left. They've won more than half his starts. His ability to go deeper into games helps the bullpen, which helps the team when the bullpen is needed and on and on. A pitcher'S WIN-LOSS record says nothing about how he's done or how he's helped or hindered his team.
  4. Usually out of necessity...we're not in that boat. We don't need to avoid FA like the plague and trade off all of our pieces/let them go when we lose team control of them like those teams. We're not the As or Rays.
  5. It's only been almost 30 years since they went to the playoffs. These things take time. Don't rush things. :-)
  6. Maybe, maybe not...some might have waited until he gave up a run, especially with a 7 run lead. In any event, I think allowing two runners on with one out would be a better reason...and I'd say it like that, 'well he was starting to get in a bit of trouble there, so it was a good time to pull him' And again, I didn't even see the game, and maybe he was gassed or looked gassed, but this whole gassed thing is way overused as a reason by him.
  7. Post hoc ergo propter hoc? :-)
  8. That's one of Gardy's go to phrases. Has 100 or more pitches, gonna pull him cause he must be gassed and it's a good excuse to use. I have no idea whether he should have been pulled or not...I have no idea whether or not he was gassed...didn't watch the game...but Gardy says that kind of thing all the time and plenty of times the pitcher didn't look to be gassed at all. Not at all. Just because a guy hits 100 pitches and walks his first batter of the entire game, doesn't mean he's gassed.
  9. It's not like he had a no-hitter going... :-)
  10. And the MOST important thing, he didn't walk anybody AND he kept the strikeouts down.
  11. our MEDIA? the few times the media has dared press him on an issue he demeans the guy asking with smart-allecky responses as if to say how dare you, mere mortal, questions my tactics...weakest group of reporters in baseball attend Gardy's postgame interviews.
  12. Maybe cause some want to see what he does getting out of the AL East and out of that bandbox of a stadium?
  13. So, should he have been allowed to finish the game?
  14. So he didn't look good?
  15. Here's an article from Justice...talking about the team...talking about Shields and his affect on the team...and talking about Moore's reasoning. Specifically how he built this team through a strong farm system and that the farm system sometimes needs to be dipped into to get things they need...like pitching. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130805&content_id=56018042&vkey=news_kc&c_id=kc
  16. yeah, and there's 2/3 of a season left.
  17. So, what you're saying is players coming into their prime or just in their prime should have expected dropoffs in OPS points of: 47, 158, 107, 106 and 89 points. That's what Moore should have expected? That's more realistic to EXPECT to happen prior to the start of the season? Expecting an average of 100 point dropoff in OPS for these 5 players is more realistic than to expect these guys in their prime or coming into their prime to do better or at least as well as they did last year? And if you don't care what Moore think,as you said in this post, then why did you write: 'The problem with the Shields trade is that Moore had no reason TO THINK the young hitters in KC were legit.' What he was thinking is at the heart of whether or not this trade should have happened and you put it in your argument as to what he SHOULDN'T have been thinking.
  18. Winning the division isn't the only way to be in the playoff hunt, but whatever.
  19. hey, I didn't even turn on the game..still not watching it. Are you crazy? That's bad mojo :-)
  20. I've missed this game. I know Albers is tossing a shutout...has he looked THAT good?
  21. Royals haven't wasted anything...they are right in the playoff hunt...due mostly to their PITCHING and the offense is starting to come on.
  22. That is straight up opinion...and I couldn't disagree more. Obviously Moore disagrees as well and he should. Moustakas is young, a former #2 draft pick, hit 20HRs and had an OPS in the 700s last year, Escobar had an OPS in the mid .720s. Perez, a HIGHLY regarded up and coming catcher, had an OPS just under .800s. Butler had an OPS just under .900 and in the .800s for a few years. Gordon had an OPS in the .800s the last two years. Those five are young and improvement should have very well been expected since they are starting into or in their prime. At very minimum, they should have been expected to hold...not all take a dump. I don't know how you can say Moore shouldn't have expected these guys to be legit. They've already been legit, some for at least a couple years..and again, all coming into or in their prime.
  23. Yeah, I have a hard time believing that just because we have been bad for a year or two, that washes away a decade of competitiveness in the eyes of free agents. People are talking as if we were the Pirates or KC with a couple decades or so of horrible ball. It's a convenient excuse for those defending Ryan though...
  24. Well, I wasn't the only one who wasn't quite following your argument. Let's look at it again. When Smith took over, the farm system was bad and we had just had a losing record after having a great season the season before. The farm system got much better under Smith while having a winning record in his first three seasons, two being division titles. Then the team had one horrible season with mostly players from Ryan's farm system and he got replaced. Ryan took over a team with a one horrible season but with a very good farm system. We proceeded to have another horrible season under Ryan followed by another horrible season under Ryan and, under Ryan, that very good farm system got better, in part, because of players were were able to get because of being so bad in 2011 and 2012. Now we wait for the talent to come up...mostly gotten under Smith's time. Sound fair? Or rather, sound accurate?
  25. When Ryan took back over, we had just come off ONE bad season...a season played by a team consisting mostly of players we got during his first stint with us. Smith had, at that time, only been GM for three drafts ('08-10). The farm system was already getting better under Smith, but most of his guys hadn't even stepped on the field in 2011, had they?
