  1. McClouth is more than capable of playing CF. He has over 500 games played there. Orioles have Jones in CF, which is why he doesn't play CF.
  2. And if it didn't work out, Shields is a fine trade piece at the deadline, this offseason, or next deadline, if they choose not to resign him.
  3. Who has THAT kind of money to throw around?
  4. They aren't one pitcher away this year because 6, 7 of their position players are under-performing big time with the stick...something that wasn't predictable...which was my point. Moore couldn't have predicted almost the whole young roster wouldn't improve, but instead take a step back. If those young guys, with some experience behind them, had progressed to what they are capable of, with that pitching, it's a different story. And, you know, they aren't out of playoff contention and it's August. Been a long time since they could say that. Their offense is getting better. It's not over for them yet. Anyway, the whole point was, people will excuse Ryan when it comes to the offense because Ryan couldn't have predicted it so many would underachieve, but will slam Moore for not predicting his offense would take a dive due to almost all of his guys underperforming to their capabilities.
  5. The whole article was a joke...
  6. I like the optimism, but why would you think we'd right away be competitive. These guys are going to have growing pains. It's not going to happen overnight.
  7. As long as it takes, I imagine. Ryan and Gardy, the combo that can't be faulted :-)
  8. Criticizing Moore for going for it (on the pitching front) because he should have know most of his position player would take a dump....while defending Ryan for how bad the offense is (and team overall) because he couldn't be expected to believe so many of his position players would take a dump this year (Morney, Plouffe, Willingham, Doumit). And I didn't say KC and the Twins were in the same situation going into this season...not sure where you got that from what I said.
  9. When it comes to position players, I think that's fair. Completely fair. What I will point out though is that Dayton Moore also couldn't expect almost all of his position players to take a dump this year on offense as well, but he has gotten slammed on here for making moves on the pitching front to go for it this year. Apparently he had to envision 6, 7 of his up and comers all would take steps back as they have done instead of taking steps forward (or at least sideways). Many of the people criticizing him, staunchly defend Ryan. So it's interesting, since, in three-five years, we'll likely be in KCs same shoes they were in this offseason. What could be predicted though, was how bad our starting pitching would be.
  10. I'm not sure he was the best athlete on the team...I think that's a pretty big stretch, but I would say I don't think anyone got more out of what athletic ability they did have than Punto. No one worked harder. I guess if I had a negative about the way he played, it that sometimes he'd try and make plays look flashier than they needed to be. Sometimes this caused balls to get past him that he should have had. They wouldn't be called errors because of the way he tried to play it. For example, sometimes at shortstop when a ball was hit to his right, he'd squat, rotate his body and try and shortstop backhand a ball. If he didn't get it, it wasn't an error, but he could have just gotten in front of it to begin with. Flashy, for the sake of flashy, is bad...like diving for a ball you have no chance at, just to say you hustled...or sliding headfirst at 1B. Overall though, I liked his play.
  11. absolutely hilarious!!!
  12. The law of averages says most won't be worth getting massive contracts though...and the very few who will, won't be getting those until way down the road...possibly not till after Mauer's contract is over.
  13. Dude, I was just joking with you. He says his thing and you list two guys to counter. I hear what you're saying :-)
  14. Loved the article, as usual. One thing I'd like to mention though. You wrote, ' Punto was a mythical figure in Minnesota. Some loved him, others hated him.' I think there were some who liked him just fine, but hated the way he was utilized by Gardy. Through no fault of his own, Punto took a lot of carp simply by going out there and trying his best every time he was asked. Problem was, based on his talent, there were too many of those days. That, along with Gardy constantly gushing over him and defending him got irritating along with saying things like 'signing Punto is our #1 priority and if we do he's my starting shortstop.' So, unfortunately, Punto got a lot of carp he really didn't deserve based on things Gardy did.
  15. I'd never suggest the comments weren't allowable. It just seems he's getting a lot of joy out of our guy performing poorly. I guess, in the end, it seems as fans we shouldn't find joy in our players doing poorly....especially those who came through our system and we've been waiting for years to see.
  16. See you in 2016, when ALL of the prospects we're counting on come up and automatically do well cause they spent the prerequisite amount of time in the minors?
  17. No, what I meant was, your post seems like you are clearly thrilled Hicks has been so bad this year. It means you get to say you were right, so I guess that's the joy. Let's rejoice in the fact that another one of the prospects that we're waiting to deliver us from the depths is struggling. For me it's sad, but I have faith he'll be better, and if not, I will take no joy in the fact that he wasn't. I wonder how many more of our prospects that we are counting on to deliver us to contention will struggle and get lit up with joy like a Christmas tree in here in the next couple years.
  18. Souhan: Where?s that stench coming from? Target Field | Star Tribune 'It’s time to stop saying the Twins are rebuilding. They’re not. They’re waiting. They’re not constructing a sports car. They’re standing at a bus stop. The Twins embarrassed themselves Thursday afternoon, losing 7-2 to the Royals. If the Twins were rebuilding, they would be playing a lot of raw but talented youngsters. They’re not. They’re showcasing mediocre-to-lousy players who never have won at any level and might never win at any level.'-- Jim Souhan
  19. You seem to be taking a lot of pleasure in the fact that Hicks has been so bad...
  20. Plenty of fans seem completely content with that...as far as the owners go, they'll pocket even more money next year. They'll be plenty happy.
  21. Could be less than 70M? I don't think there's any doubt at all it will be less than 70M. Morny and Blackburn's contracts alone drops us 19M, and there's more than that coming off the books. Might even be below 60M.
  22. Two players in two years...you sure proved him wrong :-)
  23. Wasn't Buxton just named FSL player of the week? I agree, the idea that Buxton starting the season next year in Twins CF seems ridiculous, but he's doing just fine in FSL.
  24. Speaking of arm in RF, how about that throw from Hermann last night. He didn't even look like it took much effort.
