  1. That noise everyone just heard was sucking the fun out of something...:-)
  2. This thread is specifically about the Twins roster and payroll in 2013. It's right in the title.
  3. Well, the answer would probably be 'yes' now...but if he doesn't do it, then the answer would be changed to 'no' cause we're in transition and that signing would cripple us later when we will most definitely be in contention in some year we're guessing on:-)
  4. How many of those are actual top notch pitchers? They may be the top pitchers available in FA but there is hardly a group of bankbusters. In any event, how can I fault him for not doing something when that point in time hasn't even happened? And how is saying Ryan wouldn't do it necessarily a bad thing...how is that faulting him? I'm saying, based on what we've seen from him, he isn't likely to do it even if he could. If that's a negative statement, other than just a statement made based on what we've seen from him in the past, then I don't know. Here's something else he wouldn't do...get Mauer to waive his no-trade clause so he could trade him for a box of cigarettes. Am I faulting him for not trading Mauer for a box of cigartettes? :-)
  5. Next question, how many times has a team rotation been so bad they needed to replace 3 or more starters AND that team had the financial flexibility to do it?
  6. He just replaced 3 guys in the rotation this year. How are you saying it's never been done? Because only two were in free agency? I'm trying to sift through all of the not so veiled sarcasm and trying to have a real discussion.
  7. unheard of or not, Ryan would never do it.
  8. He said 3 or 4 of those group at minimum. We replaced 3 this offseason, poorly I might add, so it's not like it's unheard of.
  9. The new system helps big spending teams and the players themselves while hurting the small market teams. I agree the rankings were ridiculous, but the idea behind it was better than what we have now, IMO.
  10. The only way we get compensation is if we make a qualifying offer. Which would be around a 13M one year contract.
  11. Nope, not upset at all. I like him, hope he and the Royals make the playoffs, but not upset in the least.
  12. No such thing as type A and type B free agents anymore.
  13. He's had injuries this year...I'm sure that's part of the issue...and one wonders how much he is affected by pitchers not needing to give him anything since he's the only threat on the team. If I was a manager, I'd tell my pitchers to never give him anything good to hit.
  14. We don't know if Sano will even stick at 3B....we don't know that Sano will be a stud...and if he becomes a stud, we don't know how long that will take. Stanton is already there and is still very young to help us for the next 10 years. There's no way Ryan would do this trade...and I agree I'd rather trade for pitching...but this thread is about trading for Stanton. I would give up Sano for Stanton in a heartbeat.
  15. But I didn't say RF was a premium position, did I? Nope, no I didn't. But he is an excellent defender.
  16. and they are still just prospects...top prospects fail all the time...or become just average players. Stanton has already shown it on offense and defense. And I didn't say they were automatically inferior, I said that coming out and saying there's a decent chance BOTH of them are better than Stanton is a huge leap to make considering neither has reached the Bigs and considering hwo good Stanton is already.
  17. Corner spots aren't considered premium spots. Up the middle spots are. How many times do we see shortstops have to move to 3B because they just don't have it anymore or never did...or how we a team go ahead and throw Cabrera back there or whatever. It's often a fall back spot...a spot where defense can be sacrificed as long as there's a heavy bat manning it. It's not a defensive premium position, just like 1B isn't, though some great defenders have manned both As far as it being the least represnted in the HOF, nto sure how that's an argument.
  18. How do you come close to making that statement? We haven't seen either at the MLB level and Stanton is a stud who isn't even 24 yet. Prospects are just that...prospects. The more I read these posts, the more I think that a lot of people just don't know what kind of special player Stanton is.
  19. If your goal is to get 5M dollars worth of FA pitching, he has value. Based on the market, he may end up there. Right now he is at 4.5, but that amount goes up and down. He was worth less than 2M in the previous three years combined. Be nice to pay a pitcher 15M and get 15M worth of pitching, but it is what it is...
  20. Third Base isn't really a premium position. Considering how difficult it has been for us to find a permanent guy there it might seem like one to us, but it's not really. And we hope that Sano can be as good as Stanton, but he's an unknown quantity at the MLB level. Stanton isn't. He's the real deal offensively and defensively. There's also no guarantee Sano sticks at 3B.
  21. I had the same reaction when Kubel and Cuddyer left and Willingham and Doumit were signed. They did well for us last year and people were talking about how savvy it was for Ryan to do that since we saved a bunch of money by the switch out. Problem is, that saved money, isn't being put back into the team payroll. As far as I'm concerned, the 'saved money' part of the argument is, therefore, negated. If they aren't going to use the saved money to make the roster better, why do we care the money was saved? Why is it a big deal to us?
  22. I highly doubt it would cost all four of those guys. Sano and any pitching prospect that's available for trade would probably be required (Sano/Meyer for example) and maybe another lower prospect on top...but it wouldn't take Sano, Rosario, Berrios and Stewart (who isn't even tradeable right now).
  23. Are we just going to assume if we got Stanton we wouldn't sign him to a long term deal? If so, why is that? Why do we as fans need to worry about creating the lowest paid team possible? Sano is a stud prospect, but he's still just a prospect. We don't know for sure what he'll do in the majors. Even if he becomes a stud, we could wait years for it to click. We know what Stanton can do and there's no reason, at all, to just figure we'd let him go when he became a FA ,or that we'd have to, with all the money available.
