  1. Not a fan of this move... but I am glad to see it is only for $1M that isn't guaranteed. I thought he had more power, but looking through his numbers I'm surprised by the lack of HRs. He is a career .263/.337 hitter but he's on a downward trend... and a poor defender. I'd much rather see if Miranda or Julien can handle 1B. Miranda at least has had streaks where he is a top 3 hitter on this team and Julien was great in 2023, for France you have to hope he goes back to being his 2022 self or else he is a replacement level player or worse. I'm fine with the move if they give Miranda a legit shot and don't pigeon-hole themselves into 400 questionable PAs from France if not.
  2. I think it's too early to say that, he'll be 23 this year and a good year at AA could really raise his stock. Though the Severino comparison is similar. You'd think the next step would be trying him out at 1B?
  3. How is the infield full? We don't know if Lee is going to be able to hold down a job full-time, and who is going to back up the infield? I don't see a guy on the 40 man roster who is going to back up SS or 3B unless they are adding Urias or DeJong.
  4. And even shorter, too! I hadn't heard of him when I saw him when I was at a Saints game last year, and I was wondering who this short guy was. I was surprised to see how fast he arrived in AAA when I did my research on him.
  5. Festa was already better as a rookie than Paddack, it would be very disappointing if he regresses.
  6. I was surprised Helman lasted this long on the roster, based on the multiple times he had been passed on for a call-up. Maybe the Cardinals will get something out of him, it'd be a fun story to see some MLB success for him.
  7. They went into last year with Farmer as the primary "backup" infielder while Castro was the utility guy and were willing to spend to get Farmer back, so I don't think they are planning on moving Willi. I can't blame them for not wanting to trust the likes of Martin and Helman defensively.
  8. There are different styles of 3-4 OLB, Jonathan Greenard is one but he rarely drops into coverage and just had by far his best season after playing the first four years of his career as a 4-3 DE. Van Ginkel drops into coverage more than any other 3-4 OLB in the game, and Turner dropped into coverage a lot as well. Pat Jones was more in Greenard's type and rarely drops back too. Garrett would be fine like Greenard and Hunter.
  9. Taylor has caught some strays in this thread, but Baseball Reference has him at 1.9 WAR for his 2023 season even despite his inability to get on base. Getting that out of Bader would be nice. I do agree with those saying that this is a "floor" move. It's a move the front office needed to make because they can't develop their own CF backup from the minors... it's been years and we're still waiting.
  10. I was expecting a veteran addition to the outfield, but this is a bit more than I thought they'd spend. Clearly there was an emphasis to make a defensive upgrade to Margot and find somebody who can fill CF while Buxton is out, and they were not going to go with Martin and Kiersey as their top OF backups. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if Kiersey if DFA'd to make room. But it's hard to be excited given how consistently poor Bader has been as a hitter, the last three years come out to about .240/.280 with some power. .280 OBP is gonna be rough. Hey, at least the lineup has some base-stealing potential with Bader. Speed is something this lineup lacked.
  11. I think Garrett would be a fine 3-4 OLB, Danielle Hunter made the transition just fine and both are crazy top tier athletes. The demand for Garrett will be very high and it's likely the Vikings would get outbid quickly. And I think he could absolutely fetch 2 1sts. Lawrence would be a pipe dream, but I don't think the Giants have any desire to move him. He is another guy that teams would bid up his price if it were made known that he was available.
  12. I suggested this a few days ago, I’m glad they made a move to sign a lefty for the pen.
  13. Sure, I'm not opposed to selling high on him, but him being part of a larger package to get one year of a good starter doesn't seem like he is being sold for all that much.
  14. If Larnach or Castro got moved, who is their replacement? I get sending a younger pitcher + prospect(s) for Cease, but they already have issues filling out the lineup... feels like robbing Peter to pay Paul.
  15. I'd like to think they could spend that on a reliever on the market who could be an upgrade from Tonkin... so when we get to the halfway point of the year and have been churning through the backend of the bullpen, we can at least have one more passable reliever. And maybe a lefty? How much is Danny Coulombe going to require?
  16. Jorge Polanco is returning to the Mariners on a 1/$7.75M deal and reportedly are going to move him to 3B... good luck with that!
  17. A 2 WAR season from Kiersey would be quite something, given I think he is closer to being DFA'd than getting 500 PAs. We are in trouble if those PA numbers - especially Camargo at 360 and Helman at 390 - actually happen. If he is that good, you really have to wonder why he's been sitting in the minors for so long, especially when we needed a backup CF last year. Seems to me that the their pitching projections are more accurate than the hitting ones, but who knows.
  18. Looks like Kellen Moore is gonna be the hire. Feels like a post-hype candidate after his stock was high a couple years ago. He might not ever get another HC offer again so he might as well take it.
  19. At least the Jags finally made the right move and canned Baalke... just shoulda done that before the HC interviews, not during the final round. And in the midst of begging Coen to take your job. Heh. Tampa Bay is the place to be, their previous two OCs have gotten HC jobs. Baker Mayfield is suddenly OC gold! But yeah, Detroit would be pretty great too.
  20. It's hard to buy into this after the Twins collapsed in 2024 with some obvious flaws in the roster needing to be fixed just for no effort to be made to solve those problems. Yes, the rotation has 3 quality starters but the rotation went off the rails in September due to injury and regression. The bullpen had highs and lows as we saw a gaggle of mediocre relievers get shelled then DFA'd and we're crossing our fingers for over half the pen. And the hitters are a complete mystery box given the need for help at 1B, 2B, and outfield depth. And running back basically the same roster isn't going to help with the durability issues most the players have. There is legitimate upside to this team, but after watching what this team has accomplished the past 3 seasons, it feels like more of the same.
  21. Coen went from a first time OC 12 months ago after Canales got the Panthers job to suddenly being a HC, getting to pick (or at least being part of the team to pick) the next GM and a hefty salary. Wow. Can't say for the inside sources, but Baalke is known for winning a power struggle in San Francisco and getting Jim Harbaugh fired despite the fact he only had one mediocre year out of 4 there. Then the team immediately went downhill as he hired Jim Tomsula (a lame duck DL coach) and then Chip Kelly, getting canned himself just to resurface as the Jags GM and embarrass himself a second time. Backing Urban Meyer and drafting Travon Walker over Aidan Hutchinson are just a couple of mega blunders he has made.
  22. Yikes. My money is on Schottenheimer being a one-and-done in Dallas. I'm not a big fan of McCarthy but this is gonna be a considerable downgrade.
  23. I believe that's now 3 head coaching candidates that are heavily suspected to have said no to Jacksonville - Byron Leftwich (who was close to taking the job before Pederson did but insisted on his own GM), Ben Johnson, and Liam Coen. I don't think they have somebody out of left field like Belichick, I think it has to do with Coen choosing to return to the Bucs earlier today.
  24. I don’t think Rodgers will be back, but if he is then the potential for chaos will certainly be higher.
  25. I will bet on him lasting over 1 year - their past two minority coaches in Bowles and Saleh each got canned in Year 4. Though it is interesting that he hasn't taken the offer yet... the rumors say the Saints have him as their #1 option as well.
