  1. Looks like Raya is the AAA closer now, he had a rough spring training after a bad season last year so I get it if they want to see him pitch well out of the pen at St Paul before giving him a bump to the majors. Looks like Klein is being used as a long reliever, as he pitched 2 1/3 inning in relief. I'd just move him to full-time one inning relieving.
  2. Already 3 appearances for Funderburk in 4 games, obviously a small sample size but you know you have a bad bullpen if he's the guy they're going to use the most. They don't really have any young relievers ready at AAA, Raya has been a mess for a while and needs more time and I don't know what Klein's status is, the rest are hurt. The bats at AAA could definitely help, or at worst would start taking their lumps in the majors now rather than later. But they love to delay that to later on the regular.
  3. Wow, two overturned ball fours in one AB. Welcome to the ABS era!
  4. Might be that the batters aren't that great...
  5. Pinch hitting Outman for Martin... the heck? I get the splits but Outman is one of the worst batters in the game right now.
  6. So we are doing the piggybacking thing with Abel after Ober... huh.
  7. Can't remember the last time I've seen a team ground into a double play with a runner on 2nd and no outs...
  8. That's a heck of a first PA as a Twin for Gray, even if it did end in him tagged out on 3rd.
  9. Bases loaded no outs... Twins teams in recent years have really stunk in these situations. Let's see if this squad is any better at it.
  10. Yup, that AAA lineup is absolutely loaded. I'd like to go to a game before any promotions or injuries start hitting the lineup. Too bad to hear Rojas is hurt, he needs all the innings he can get to build up if he's gonna be a major league starter.
  11. Yikes, Clemens in the lead-off spot? And we brought back Larnach just for him to hit 7th in an already weak lineup? Ugh... they may as well have let Roden start in LF and if that failed, start trying out the top prospects. Rodriguez, Gonzalez, and Jenkins are close... just makes zero sense how this roster was constructed. I'm going to give Shelton a grace period as the roster construction is not on him, but at some point when Clemens is hitting .200 in May, that's more when Shelton should be doing his best to keep him out of the lineup.
  12. To be fair, this is something most teams do with their starters at the beginning of the year, Ryan will be allowed to go to 100 pitches within a few weeks' time. But yeah, short starts are gonna be devastating with how weak this bullpen is.
  13. Yup, this is what I've been expecting after Rocco was canned... we'd find out that most of the things people complained about him are going to continue with this regime's next manager. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
  14. Tyler Wells is a reliever now, huh? Maybe he'll be yet another former Twin starting prospect to turn into a quality reliever.
  15. This is essentially the same team with only Bell and Caratini as the new additions that have played today.
  16. I also don't see a win, they haven't finished any games yet!
  17. I did not expect Caratini to be playing 1B right away, but I guess it's for the lefty matchup. It's logical when taking into account how terrible he has been this spring.
  18. Of course, but if we had the foreknowledge to know that it would 5 or more years for Petty to make any kind of positive impact on the roster, you move him for a legit starter.
  19. I wouldn't be shocked if he's gone sooner than later, but I don't think Culpepper is going to bump Lee down to utility infielder in a few weeks. Methinks they're going to give Lee a long runway to figure out if he can hold the SS job down.
  20. I haven't seen much talk about how well the Sonny Gray trade aged for the Twins. That's why you don't trade two years of control of a very good starting pitcher for a single pitching prospect, even for a top-of-the-line starter prospect.
  21. Getting equal money on both sides means setting the lines where the betting public thinks the results will be. Whether their opinion is worthwhile depends whether it's more smart money (sharps/pro bettors) or dumb money (casual bettors/fans).
  22. I agree with keeping Bradley and Matthews as starters for now. Zebby has shown flashes and hasn't had any issues with missing tons of time with injuries and can get deep into games, it might be worthwhile keeping him as a starter for the long haul. The others you mentioned are probably all relievers long-term.
  23. Looks like Chief was wrong about Arcia... I'm surprised Gray made it as the utility infielder. As for the bullpen... well, I guess it's nice they gave Laweryson a fair shake after they seemingly gave up on him this winter. May as well try one of the younger options. I just wish we had more upside coming in the minors for relieving talent, Raya seems like the only arm to have made the jump from starting to relieving. Has Klein? Once Festa starts ramping up, I would move him to the pen. It's his likely destiny regardless of team need.
