    These are the questions many of us have about Twins development philosophies.

    The point of my post is a mediocre player on a good contract doesn’t get you closer to winning. Good players get you closer to winning especially at a position where offensive production is important. These good players can be obtained in a variety of ways so you can skip your lecture about how mid market teams acquire players.

    Here, here. Hoping Buck is back and neither have any long term consequences. I can’t get the thought out of my mind how badly Mauer and Morneau were affected by their concussions. It took quite a while and I don’t think either were ever the same after. Both probably had more previous brain trauma then Correa or Buxton so maybe it’s different. Anyway should be a great weekend at Target Field.

    Maybe they will start giving out a trophy at the end of the year for most WAR per payroll dollar spent.

    Sometimes we just need to take a step back and get out of the weeds. This specific situation aside if you can’t give McCusker a legit chance now with his production at AAA and the lineup they are rolling out there, when will you be able to do it?

    I think this is a false question. France is meeting what is reasonably expected of him at a low price. So good for Ty France - I’m not going to be critical of him. However it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect much more from this position. I know they aren’t signing Pete Alonzo but they can make a trade or develop one a first baseman that can hit. I reject the premise that “good value” from France is anything we should celebrate or even accept.

    To clarify I was talking in the field. Agreed Culpepper has the higher floor with the bat but is also older.

    Royce - you gotta slide. The Twins haven’t been making as many bad plays but that one stunk. Basically eliminated a prime scoring chance.

    Agreed. It would be nice to see if he can stick at SS. However he is getting very few starts there as Culpepper is the primary SS. This will be unpopular but I believe Winokur has a higher ceiling at SS then Culpepper.

    I think the whole concept of contrition and apologies is baloney. Who knows if they are even sincere? In my view you committed the act so now you live with the consequences and all the other stuff is unimportant. You don’t get to hit the undo button because you say something people want to hear. As far as the references to religion in this thread, it means nothing to me and I’m guessing many others. No place for it on this site.

    I remember that he had some good stuff. He could make good hitters look bad but it just never came together for him in the bigs.

    The biggest takeaway I see in this comparison is beware of the rebuild. You are guaranteed to suck for several years and there is no guarantee it will work.

    If Falvey is so smart why didn’t he keep Coulombe a couple years ago instead of several stiffs that were sent packing quickly?

    Players get weeded out at every level including trying to make the jump fromAAA to the bigs. Might be the hardest jump of all. Plenty of players have success in AAA and never stick in the bigs so his numbers in AAA don’t really mean that much.

    He’s got some swing and miss in his game but everything else is there. Speed, good hands and a rocket arm. I actually think he is the best SS prospect we have but the Twins obviously view Culpepper as the better SS.
