  1. This. If he is the last guy on the bench it’s not horrible. But for some reason the Twins want to give him regular playing time.
  2. Hat tip to Jeffers with the old school two strike approach.
  3. I think there is plenty of consternation directed at all the players you mentioned.
  4. Ironically the bullpen might be easiest to fix. The hitting and fielding problems can only be fixed by inserting new players in the lineup. We all thought that would be the up and comers in St Paul but none of them are hitting enough to be an improvement offensively. Several would provide immediate defensive help but they won’t get the chance if they can’t hit. With the bullpen you could insert Rojas, Festa when he comes back, and some combination of SWR / Preilipp / Mathews. That would be a marked improvement over the current pen. Of course that assumes the Twins are still in it and trying to win.
  5. Both catchers have done a great job utilizing the new system. Jeffers has a good game theory sense of when to do it. Unfortunately it’s their strongest attribute at the present time.
  6. Happy for Zebby. We are going to need him sooner or later. Equally excited about Rojas and the strike throwing. If he can throw it over he would be the best pen arm by far. The only question is whether his development as a potential starter is more important.
  7. Not to nitpick but it’s “losing” streak. Might want to edit that.
  8. Definitely talent. They’ve had multiple hitting coaches just in the last few years with the same basic results. We need better players.
  9. I wonder if Royce realizes that he is zooming towards complete bust territory. He will run into a cookie once in a while but other than that he has no chance at the plate
  10. Royce looks like he might not get a hit in the next month.
  11. Good to see Houston with two more hits. I’m guessing the Twins will be really patient with him and let him build a bunch of confidence before he goes to Wichita. Nice grab by Culpepper- sorry Brooks but you don’t get within a foot of that ball.
  12. It will be interesting to watch how teams pitch to him going forward. They can’t just let him walk at his current clip. He’s getting better in all facets of the game so I hope they keep on playing him. His speed is an underdeveloped weapon IMO. He can run but makes a lot of mistakes on the bases that seem like they could be eliminated.
  13. The hype has far exceeded the performance. Reminds me of when everyone was in love with Balasovic even though the performance was erratic even in AA.
  14. He has some pitches to be excited about. Command is clearly an issue that needs to be improved upon for him to have consistent success. Like all players, we won’t know anything conclusive until the league sees him a few times.
  15. To me, moving him to the pen is a no-brainer. He doesn’t have a deep pitch mix and seems to struggle to stay healthy under a starters workload. Add a couple ticks to his fastball and he might be a great high leverage reliever, which we desperately need.
  16. Mendez heating up as well. Really wish they would just put him at first base. Houston getting enough hits that AA is possible this year.
  17. Both Prielipp and Rojas have good stuff. They need to gain better command but there is definitely something there to work with. Rojas in the bullpen could be a force as he has easy velocity. No mention in this recap of Royce’s night with the glove. Bad error and a couple other plays that a good defender makes. Lee is rightfully getting shade for his fielding but I am willing to bet he would be a better third baseman than Royce. Of course neither of them can hit so there’s that. Thumbs up to Larnach for an excellent play in left field. Plays the ball off the wall perfectly and makes an accurate throw to Lee. Perfectly played.
  18. The Mets make more mental errors than the Twins.
  19. Preilipp is looking around thinking “I thought I was in the big leagues”
  20. Oh they can and most likely will. Their obsession with gaining small advantages on the margins is contradictory with developing players. This is especially misguided on a club that isn’t going anywhere and needs guys to step up become good big leaguers.
  21. McLean has some elite stuff - he is going to be really good. Unsung hero has to be Sands pitching the last two innings. Lee needs a reset in St Paul. He is struggling badly to the point that this is hurting his development. It appears that his confidence is shot and he is overmatched at SS as well. The Twins are definitely not putting him in a place to succeed at this point.
