Murphy has just as good a chance to be a gold glover as hicks. If he were still with the Twins he would be the second best defensive center fielder on the roster.

I disagree that Duffy is a lock. People are giving way to much credit to a relatively short stretch of success last year. Milone was arguably the Twins best pitcher last year. The battle is between Nolasco and Duffy
If there is cluster luck shouldn't there be cluster "unluck" that might offset it. How many times did the Twins get a bunch of hits but due to bad luck not score many runs?
Not at all. There are plenty of spring training at bats for everyone. Plus anybody on the 40 man that isn't in contention (Kepler abw) is going to be sent to minor league camp ASAP so they don't risk injury and MLB service time on the MLB DL. This whole thing is a non story; most clubs do it just to see if they catch lighting in a bottle not because they are planning on them.
By the 4th of July I hope our outfield from left to right is rosario, Buxton and Kepler with Sano at third. Trevor can be traded or move around but his presence shouldn't dictate the lineup
There are many ways to construct a lineup. I think the biggest factor is each guy has to contribute something (power speed obp). When you have multiple guys in the lineup that don't do anything well and strikeout a lot your offense is going to sputter.
For years (long before sabrmetrics) I always believed that you could lump fielders into three categories: 1) elite difference makers which comprise maybe 15%. 2) guys that are difference makers because that are that bad with the glove (again about 15%). And 3) everybody else who are so similar that over the course of a season they will have roughly the same impact with the glove. Interesting that the Twins had nobody in the elite category and maybe two in the bad category (Hunter and Susuki and they were close to the middle group)
This. If this were a blind taste test everyone would be in love with Milone. Everyone is in love with what they think May, Gibson, Duffey WILL do as opposed to what Milone has actually done.
Plus one hundred. I think this applies to other threads as well. I can fully endorse criticism of not improving the bullpen where many options were available but catchers are a completely different story.
Instead of wasting your talents assessing my posting ability find out how many "damn good" catchers there are out there and how many would be available in any kind of reasonable trade. That would cut to the heart of the matter quickly.
I understand your angle on this and it applies strongly in most positions. My only caveat is that damn good catchers are rare and not available for trade. You pretty much have to draft those.
My biggest concern is Park. He's going to dictate what happens to several players and I think there is a good chance he's going to struggle. But with the contract he's gonna play. I bet that one of Arcia / Vargas would match his production at DH. If true we would be far better off without him. And yes I really hope I'm wrong.
