I never thought I would say this but I am now ready to consider Sano in a trade for good starting pitching. I'm afraid he is going to end up being Chris Carter. Problem is if you are wrong on that premise the cost of the mistake is really high. But they have to add pitching to this young core and Sano is now the one I trust the least.
They completely botched last year's Rule 5 situation. And it appears they did it again this year. Maybe they should not bother with this. I do think hubris might be an issue here.
Nothing wrong with a change up bring your best pitch. The biggest challenge for most prospects of the current era is developing a quality change up. I think Gordon ends up at second base so, yea I think he is overrated.
What happens if the new coaches are no better than the old? What happens if the two prospects they got the international money never see the big leagues? Like I said, time will determine whether these moves amount to anything. There is literally no way to make this determination right now.
I have no idea how successful this front office will be but they literally have done nothing that a typical front office wouldn't have done. It will all depend on whether their judgment proves to be good. Until then "crushing it" is just click bait. Not why I come to this site.
I guess I'm surprised that anybody thinks the Twins system has too many good pitchers. I'll believe it when they show they should be in the big leagues.
I think people are under valuing Erv. He's not an elite starter but then there are only a handful of those. He is reliable, durable and mostly effective. Considering a multi year window he's been the Twins best starter since Johan. He won't be as easily replaced as some posters think.
So we solve our pitching problem by trading away our only proven pitcher? Sounds like a good plan for 2020. No thanks, I've waited long enough. Plus, IMO, Darvish isn't that much better than Erv.
This. Plus Joe is still a pretty good player as he moves towards the end of his contract. Most of the mega deals involve several years at the end where the player is washed up.
The problem is that you have to make decisions about these guys when they are in their mid to late 20s. Some don't get it until they are 30 some never get it. Are you going to just wait on them just in case?
He missed time because of a groin strain and hand issue. Neither had anything to do with his playing style. Quit worrying. Last year we wondered if he would ever stick in the bigs.....
