    OK - since you don't seem to grasp the answers that I have already provided, I'll try again. How many 90+ loss seasons: 7. There, now you have to wait at least 3 more years before you ask the question again.

    I'm not sure what is "unfair" - everyone will have their own opinion on your question and my answer would include "it depends on a whole bunch of factors". You would like to judge him after one poor season I am guessing and want him fired. That's fine - not the way I look at it.

    GMs need to be judged over a much longer time frame than managers. Their main responsibilities (like a farm system) are all things that take time. Its too early to cast judgment on Ryan's second tenure. I liked Gardy as a person. However, I'm sure we can find another manager that will do equally well or better. I absolutely don't feel that way about Ryan - chances of finding someone better to guide this franchise is pretty low. And if we are going to rip on the free agent signings, I think we also need to recognize that Hughes and Suzuki were two of the best signings and many of the pitchers TD posters were clamoring for Ryan passed on and avoided a landmine.

    Ok, so catchers stealing two strikes per game are putting fear into hitters. I got it. If that's true- you ain't much of a hitter.

    So hitters are "scared" of certain catchers because they garner an extra two strikes per game? They wouldn't even notice an extra two strikes per game much less fear it. I get that certain catchers are better behind the plate than others but the whole notion gets extrapolated much too far.

    Well, since he is 10 for 25 I guess his perceptions are not entirely accurate. Defensive metrics are highly inaccurate with pitch framing being the worst culprit.

    I'm ok with this either way - I do not harbor any hopes that the Twins will magically be better because of a different manager but maybe a different voice will help. I will give him credit in that one of the ways coaches / managers should be judged is if their players play hard for them. Gardy has always gotten maximum effort from his players even when they had nothing to play for. I'm sure he will get another chance - he would be a good fit for a veteran ballclub.

    The problem with prospects is that it takes multiple legit prospects to end up with one bona fide big leaguer. This makes is tempting to trade them as most never pan out but also is the reason that you have to hoard them if you are going to have a strong minor league system, consistently improving the big league club with better replacements. To me the answer is this: you have to trade from an actual position of strength, where you have players waiting in the wings that have proven themselves or darn close to such. To do otherwise just opens a different hole and weakens your farm system by creating another weakness where we are short on prospects for too long. Had Rosario progressed, we maybe would be in a position to move Dozier but not now. I really think that the next position of "strength" will be at DH. We just cleared out one log jam and another is building already.

    It's now being reported that the Twins have offered him a chance to pitch an inning this weekend which he declined Classy on both parts especially because took himself out of a couple games early in the year.

    Wow the Twins took a castoff and turned him into an ace for $7 million per year. They must have a shrewd GM and effective pitching coach.

    Very funny. I can't believe anybody can catch or hit it at 100. Here is what I don't understand about pitch framing: umpires are supposed to judge the location of the pitch where it crosses the plate. If they, in fact, are doing that, then framing has nothing to do with stirke calls. If they are influenced by the position of the glove, that's a problem considering the not unsubstantial distance from the plate to the glove.

    Correct. I think the reality is that Nolasco is in there but I think he was sincere in saying rotation spots will be earned in spring training regardless of where you pitched last year. I took this to mean that May is no cinch to be in the rotation next year and that Meyer could be. He also sounded aggravated that, when we have all these pitchers hanging around, we are giving spot starts to Swarzak.

    On inside twins this morning, TR said only Hughes is a lock for the rotation next year. I got the distinct feeling he is not happy with the whole lot of them. My guess is that any role is going to be earned in spring training

    I don't know anything about the facilities in Chattanooga but the weather should be better than New Britain.

    Hicks should be in the mix for center next year but no way he ends up being a 4th outfielder already. If he doesn't win the starting job, then he needs to be the starter in Rochester. He's still young enough to figure it out. Agreed that in the short run, they need both Santana and Esco in the lineup. However, short is such an important position that the potential upside of Santana playing there is worth a look.

    First off, this just shows that defensive metrics are really crude still. Their infield defense is acceptable and Arcia is going to be in right at least for the next couple of years so you really can only get better two ways: returning starters improve and the Twins make defense a priority in CF and LF. How much the improvement is offset if the new outfielders can't hit is the key factor. It would be interesting to know how this has changed since they dealt the Hammer.

    It really doesn't matter. I actually think it was an OK signing from the standpoint that the contract is small enough that they can just eat it in the worst case scenario. Best case scenario is that he either contributes from the bullpen or fills in when a starter is hurt or ineffective. I'd much rather have him filling that role than Johan Pino.

    As I've posted in several other threads, the ability level of the roster is the determining factor in wins and losses, with everything else being periphery. I get as frustrated with Gardy as anybody (his mantra of "I want to play Santana at short" but never doing it is the latest thing to drive me nuts) but I don't believe the Twins will suddenly make a quantum leap forward from switching managers. I will say he deserves heat for his idiotic roster construction at the beginning of the year. My greatest concern about keeping him is his absolute faith in veterans at the expense of younger players who may be our future. That alone might make him the wrong person to manage us during this transition to younger players. Making changes to appeal to the fanbase is a poor way to run a franchise and should have no bearing on important decisions. Make decisions that give you the best chance to win and all the rest will take care of itself.

    Does Garver bat right or left handed? Really interested to see what Walker can do in New Britain. How is his defense? He's a big man so I am wondering if he can stick in the outfield or his a DH in the future?
