    I wish I could say getting swept by the Tigers has been the low point of this season, but there has been too much competition for that dubious honor.

    You're all looking at this the wrong way. There are countless ways to lose games that we have yet to see. Don't you want to tune in to see what jaw-dropping error or bone-headed base running mistake causes the Twins to lose their next game?

    When I see numbers like 5 for $125 million, that's basically what Zach Wheeler got. Berrios is NOT as good as Zach Wheeler, not even close. I agree $20 million per year is doable, but no more. I would only go that high because the Twins are in such a poor negotiating position. They have no one else.

    I am firmly in the camp of not trading Berrios. If the Twins want to compete next year, and I believe they can, they will need pitching. Piecing together a good rotation via free agency is difficult, and the farm system is not exactly stacked with blue chip pitching prospects. Wouldn't it be better to have Berrios play out his contract and then take the comp pick if he decides to walk? This reminds me of the Johan Santana situation. They ended up trading him for a bunch of prospects that did little for the Twins and then missed the playoffs by two games that year.

    The excuses seem to be getting more lame by the day. There was also Maeda saying he was the victim of "bad luck". He walked FIVE guys and the pitches weren't even close. And of course more sloppy defense and inexcusable baserunning.

    I was always intrigued by Deduno and thought he was diamond in the rough. He had that nasty breaking ball, but just couldn't put it where he wanted it.

    I agree with a lot of this. I think he's a tremendous talent, but if he can't stay on the field then what's the point? If they can trade him for some good, controllable, young pitching, that would be of much greater help to the Twins in the short and long run. The question is will teams trade good young pitching for Buxton? His injury history is common knowledge.

    I watched Sam Clay close out the game for the Nats yesterday. He's not putting up eye popping numbers, but he's a young lefty holding his own in the majors.

    My opinion is that a short term extension would be preferable. No more than two years for similar value as he's making now. Not that I think he's Cy Young, but as the article mentioned, organizational depth at SP is thin. I don't think any teams are going to be willing to part with a decent prospect for a mediocre rental (remember Johan Pino for Carl Pavano?). Once he leaves the organization and hits free agency things will get more uncertain. Market conditions will dictate his new salary. Maybe there's no market for him, but I gotta think he would at least get JA Happ money.

    In regards to Colome.....he was better in May, but don't forget he also pitched in more "low-leverage" situations. We'll take any improvement, but still, he's being paid to close games, not work on his pitches during a 10 run blowout.

    I don't wish for poor performance, but I'm hoping the Twins will pull the plug on the Shoemaker experiment.

    Some interesting stats that I looked up on baseball-reference.com - Twins starters have left 54 inherited runners for the bullpen. That is about league average. - 69% of those runners have scored. That is the worst in baseball and it's not even close. The next closest is Philly at 49%. There are lots of problems with this team, but if you had to pick a place to start it's gotta be the bullpen or the way they are using their pitching staff. Maybe they need to move to an opener strategy.

    Good article, but awful defense in the late innings have nothing to do with luck. I can think of several losses that absolutely should not have happened, even given how lousy they have been. Professional baseball players should be making those plays.

    I know a part of the reason they gave Donaldson all that money was because of his glove. I have not been impressed.

    I remember that '84 game against the Indians like it was yesterday. Joe Carter was a Twins killer.

    Message to Mr. Falvey and Mr. Levine: You are currently paying someone $5 million to give up 3 run homers in the ninth. I can do that for only $1 million! Savings = $4 million!

    I miss the humpty dome. I know it was much maligned, but when the Twins were winning that place rocked! It was a truly unique experience.

    Someone is gonna get a bargain. The problem with a Clippard-Twins reunion is where do you put him? If you remove Theilbar it leaves Rogers as the only lefty (assuming you swap Dobnak for Thorpe). Can you justify Clippard over Alcala or Stashak? It's a tough call.

    Agreed. It's odd that he isn't signed yet. He has a good consistent track record. Are teams scared off by his age? Who knows.

    Why don't they build a real Twins Hall of Fame and museum? I was at Reds Hall of Fame in Cincinnati and it was awesome.
