    Question, can the Twins afford to have Gordon, Lewis, Martin and Palacios on the 40 man, by afford I mean will it work with the talk about how the will use the pitching staff? Lewis and Gordon are already on, it seems like moving Martin and/or Palacios on might mean cutting Gordon/Rocker or a pitcher they like? How many SS can they have on the 40 at one time?

    Confused as what I said that was not true? Do you think the odds are he is one of the top two or three short stops in the american league in 2023 are better than him starting the season in the minors that year? He did have a great AFL in 2019 and I believe without Covid he would/could have forced his way up in 2020, but Covid happened and so did his injury. So is there a chance he forces his way up this year yes (that is what I hope happens), but is it more likely he takes time to get back into the swing of things, and it is the next year he forces his way up, probably? But unless I am reading something wrong, he had 25 at bats, hit .200 1 double, two homers, 7 K's and no walks in spring training in 2020? and Arraez batting average in the minors is the same as Lewis's OBP.

    The odds are much better he isn't even in the major leagues in two year, let alone an all star. In 2019, the last time he has played, he hit .236 in A+ and AA. There is no Front Office in MLB that would even think of starting him as an opening day SS after a major injury and two years off. With that said I believe he will be better than average MLB player and maybe an all star once or twice. The harder part is what are the Twins going to do in the minors with Javier, Steer, Palacios, Lewis and Martin, that is 5 (4 if you don't include Steer) for two starting SS jobs (AA and AAA). Which means they have to move Martin or Lewis off of SS right away (I think it will be Martin). So Palacios starts at AAA, Lewis AA, Martin AA in left, Steer at 2nd or 3rd, and Javier still in A+ or in AA with Lewis and him splitting some time, hoping Lewis forces his way to AAA. Also, I am only trading Lewis if I get three years of control for a pitcher, or two with all signs pointing to a extension. I don't know if in baseball if you are allowed to talk to a player, for example with the Reds where you say to Castillo we will trade for you if take an extension of ....

    If Balazovic is the Twins #3 prospect and is seen as a borderline starer/relief pitcher, the Twins are in more trouble than I thought, And he seems like the somebody that probably should be included in a trade to bring somebody back.

    The last thing I want is Lewis being the Twins opening day short stop. From many reasons, what is the upside? If he starts in AA and is on fire, he could be moved up and the SS they signed for gap can be moved to the bench or traded. If he starts out slow at he majors what is the plan then? play Gordon and what if he sucks? try Martin and all of 89 games at SS in the last 4 years, Sign a guy for triple AAA to come up? Move Polanco, try Miranda? Having Lewis as plan A for the opening day short stop would be one of the dumbest things this FO has done, and they have done a bunch.

    So you are only interest in future projections and hope? I don't get it? For the last 3 years he has been better than Berrios and he got how much money?

    I can agree with that but if you are getting a 28 year old pitcher with 3 years of control, coming off of three years of 4.9, 1.1, 4.7 WAR you trade any prospect not named Wander Franco, Vlad Jr, Tatis Jr. (or possibly a prospect rocketing up the rankings not dropping in the rankings)

    agree, but if I am giving up Lewis or Martin, I want at least 3 years of control. Somebody like Castillo just turns into trade bait at the deadline if the Twins are sellers at the 2022 deadline.

    To me that is a great plan b, when somebody gets hurt, you can go to St. Paul and get one of the two without adding some AAAA player to the 40 man. If you go into a season with two starting outfielders and a 3rd that historically misses games. what is the back up plan? bring other rookies or Rooker up that might not be ready, or bring up AAAA players. That is a plan that should get the FO fired immediately. They signed Buxton, have Kepler, you go out and get a cheaper right handed Left Fielder. Somebody that in no way blocks Larnach or Celestino if they are on fire in AAA.

    Luis Castillo is UFA in 2024, so it is two years of control. But if it was 3 years, I would do the trade as well.

    Hard pass on the Sonny Gray trade, no way I am giving up the years of control and IMO the gem of the minor league prospects for 2 years of Gray, I would be willing to trade Jeffers and a much lower ranked and older pitching prospect for Gray. Would be willing to do the Mahle trade as long as there was decent FA signed as well. Also a hard pass on Luis Castillo, not giving Lewis up for two years of control. Might be willing to do it for Martin who I think might end up better than Lewis but IMO has no real chance of being a major league short stop (since he has only played 45 games at short in the last 4 years)

    WAR: -.8, 1.6, 1.0, 4.7, 1.1, 1.3, -..5, .2, 6.7 = 15.4 (30 starting day 2022) WAR: 1.8, 1.3, 1. 4,5. 2, 3.2, 1.5, 3.4 = 18.1 (31 starting day 2022)

    Remember when the Tigers were so bad they picked up the Twins scraps, now? To be honest all those deals minus Scherzer and Verlander were less than I was expecting, and the Twins could have done one or a combo of a few of them. I don't think Stroman is worth 20 million a year, and I am guessing others don't either or he would have signed a 5/100 already. I think he swallows some pride and takes a 1-2 year contract with the Mets.

    Like all the work you did, and if you even get 30% of those prospects hit, this FO will be winning all sorts of awards.

    To me just trading for just him, seems like the move after signing a couple of others, not the start of the plan. I am usually all for trading prospects, but not for a one year pitcher.

    I am not trading Larnach and Jeffers for one year of Montas, because if they weren't willing to give Berrios a good contract, why would they give a big one to him, because he is going to get paid if he has another year like last year. Then they end up trading him for less than they gave away. I would include either Larnach or Jeffers, plus a decent pitching prospect and a flier on a young athlete. This trade as no chance of happening, if you were the Twins and somebody offered you Arraez, Rooker and Varland what would you be willing to give up? IMO it wouldn't be anything close to a major league pitcher. Rooker is going to be a throw in on any trade not a guy that has any actual value, again IMO A's Get: Arraez 33.3 Rooker 1.7 L. varland .50 = 35.5 Twins Get: Bassitt 17.0 Manaea 18.5 = 35.5

    If they trade Buxton, they should trade Sano, Kepler, Polanco, and Garver, that way they will have gotten rid of everybody from the old front office, and basically everybody from the last 3 playoff runs, and try to win with their guys. Give them next year and 2023 to prove their worth. The great thing (for them) is there will be no expectations on them and very few fans watching the games. On a different note, would you trade the Blue Jays Martin and SWR for Berrios and his contract? I would

    My guess the only way he starts in the minors is if he is out of sorts in spring training, or they do the unthinkable and go out and get 4 starters in free agency and trades.

    I think this this the type of thing the union would absolutely want to weigh in on, if one of the teams decided it was going to do away with "real" starting pitching, they would also have to do it in the minors and thus reduce salary, and the union isn't going to put up with that.

    If you are a first or second round talent , maybe 3rd(or the parent or the agent) do you really want to sign with a team that basically says for the next 10 years you are going to be a 3 inning pitcher? And what team is going to draft a pitcher in one of those rounds and pay them the slot money to be a part-time pitcher? So basically the team will have said we won't ever go after healthy top end talent, we are going to settle for lesser? (Remember I replied to the comment about 3 sets of 3 inning pitchers) And yes it is bad for baseball to try and remove the star starting pitchers, quite a few of the games I have attended with my son revolve around who the Twins are playing and who is pitching that day. Multiple times we have decided not to go to a game on a bullpen day, because they tend to get long and boring and have went when Berrios or Odo, or a stud on the other team was pitching. I am not saying this year it would be a bad idea I am saying the philosophy is a bad idea, and I can't believe the players union would accept it. I actually think pairing Winder with a Ryan and Ober with Balazovic, would be a great way to build them up. Sign a couple of pitchers, trade for a pitcher, then let the rookies thrive but not asking too much of them for too long.

    Are we sure that is what the Rays do? I was looking at the games logs for them the last 3 three years, and their good pitchers, pitch on average more than 5 innings. Now they don't have the finances for a bunch of those good pitchers, but I don't really seem them limiting their good pitchers on some philosophy of more times pitching and less innings per time?

    One of the problems I see with this is drafting pitchers, which agent would ever let their client sign with a team that does this? College Seniors with no other options? This would have been a great thing to do last year towards the end, and maybe this year to get the prospects up and given a chance without putting the pressure on them to go deep into a game. But as a long term strategy is bad for the players, fans and the game of baseball.

    I would for Kershaw, something like 3/48, but that probably won't get him. I also would go for Verlander 3/54 but a buyout after two. I want neither for 1 year, and neither for more than 3 years. But maybe I should go with the, we are the Twins we don't deserve good things, we only deserve middle tier players because of money, and that 2022 is just another wasted year in MN for baseball, and maybe if they show something we can go and sign a pitcher the following year, unless that year is another building year then the year after that would be a great time. (Unless there are injuries and the Twins are in selling mode for the next group of promising prospects)

    Did the Rays really go for it? They traded for a 41 year old Cruz who is a free agent at the end of the year, for two 25 year old pitchers that required to be on the 40 next year.

    100% what Mike said, Rosario, Soler, Pederson, and Duvall are not guys I want the FO signing in the offseason, but are all guys I want to the FO to take a chance on around the deadline in a season that they are doing well and in a division that is winnable. in 2019 collectedly the 4 players they acquired hit 126 homers, and in 2020 hit 44. Can anybody imagine the Twins every going out and getting something like this? IMO anybody saying don't go out and get players at the trade deadline because of money is crazy.
