Who Will Be the Twins Top Prospect in 2023?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Canterino will turn 25 December 14 2022, I really like him and think he has a to be a shut down relief pitcher, or maybe a really good starter, but if the #1 prospect in the organization is a 25 year old (3 year college draft pick) that to me throws up huge red flags for an organization. I personally see it being Royce Lewis, IMO I find it hard to believe he is going to come back next year and be so amazing after all that time off that he forces the Twins to call him up, or he is good and the team is terrible again. I really hope it is either Simeon Woods Richardson or Chase Petty. Or maybe Urbina, I personally like to see the top guys being around age 20/21, meaning they have done great prior and are projected to make an impact in the next year or two.- 27 replies

Top 50 Prospects (#9-1) - Aug 21 Update
TwinsDr2021 commented on Danchat's blog entry in Danchat's Aggregated Prospect Rankings
I like it, I would swap Miranda and Duran. IMO, Duran is still young enough to be considered a prospect, the pitchers after him are getting a bit old for me to be considered top prospects, doesn't mean they won't be great, I just think pitchers that are going to be good to great starters have gotten their feet wet by age 24 or before. I get it, Covid, -
Why Get a Second Opinion For an Elbow Injury?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There should be no sunk cost next year for Maeda, The Dodgers gave the Twins 10 million dollars in the trade, which magically equals his base salary in (20,21,22), thus the Twins really only have to pay incentives for those 3 years, Based on Spotrac, he made 2,185,00 in incentives in 2020, and 1.5 million this year. So if he misses next year, the Twins will be on the hook for a total of less than 4 million total for him between 20-22, which is pretty good for 32 starts, 172 innings, and a 3.9 ERA. And assuming he comes back in 23, his base will be 3.125, and he is mostly likely not going to hit the big money incentives, so basically another cheap year. -
Game Score: Red Sox 11, Twins 9
TwinsDr2021 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My thoughts are if he says he good to pitch, then they let him until it is obvious that he is injured, because otherwise they look like they are holding him back for financial reasons, and he is getting close to some real money (millions of dollars real) Just my opinion. -

TwinsDr2021 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well you mentioned 26.1 and 8 earned runs, He has pitched 48.2 innings and given up 34, so in the other 22.1 he has given up 26 earned runs, that is not so good. But with that said I think he will learn more from this game, then those 3,4,5 inning games he had earlier this year. If you look in the past, some really good pitchers were allowed to pitch in games like this early in their career to I can only assume actually learn how to pitch? Viola, Maddux, Johnson, Glavine and even Clemens had some real clunkers. Now please don't assume I think Jax has any chance to be as good as these guys, I am just saying let pitchers, pitch. -

Here is why Maeda would continue to pitch. Innings Pitched Bonus $250,000 each for: 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 200 Games Started Bonus $1M each for: 15, 20, $1.5M each for 25, 30, 32 The last two games he pitched in got him 1.25 million dollars. and if he could/can get 4 more starts that is another 2 million. -
Not saying it is the right decision (but the only reason I can think of), maybe their thinking is they don't expect him to be on the opening roster next year, and want to give the vets (or younger guys) a chance to see if they are worth keeping on the 40 this winter? We know or can assume one or many more of the following won't be back, but maybe they aren't sure yet on who and don't want to screw it up again letting somebody go. Albers, Farell, Law, Barnes, Barraclough, Coulombe, Duffey, Minaya, Garcia, Garza, Thorpe (and Smeltzer, Dobnak and Stashak, already on the 60)

Correct me if I am wrong, non are on the 40 man, currently the 40 man sits at 40. So each prospect Alcala, Farell, Law, Maeda, Pineda, Rogers, Thorpe, or Buxton would have to be moved to the 60 day IL, or they would have DFA a player. So my thought is only Ryan will see time in the majors this year.

3 Questions Byron Buxton Can Answer in September
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My guess is the FO is looking for what most of us think, base it on games played each year. and Buxton and his team are looking for if he hits a milestone it guarantees money down the line. I can't imagine Buxton accepting a contract that pays him 11 million, than 24, and back down to around 11 the next year an so on Just my opinion on what is hold the incentives part up. -
3 Questions Byron Buxton Can Answer in September

They sign Donaldson to a 4 year deal, then "the fans" want him traded less than 2 years in because he makes too much? Not sure that was the answer you were looking for. -
Game Score: Yankees 10, Twins 2
TwinsDr2021 replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Does this mean Barnes has no future with the Twins? I mean leaving him out there for 109 pitches, they pretty much haven't done that with anybody. Normally I would say this was a great thing, living him in there after giving up some runs and letting him leave how to actual pitch in a major league game instead of pulling the young starter before the pitch count gets too high or in too much trouble. Back in the day when something was expected out of the starter this is how they learned on the job. -
Me personally I have zero interest in going to the game to watch a bunch of fielders and hitters in way over their head. Example Gordon and Palacios this year. I want Miranda up, but not going to pay to go see him. Bring up Balazovic or Canterino to start a game, and I will be at target field. (Maybe even Winder)

Sorry truly, some of us are new or newer to the site, I had no idea this was a tongue-in-cheek editorial piece and honestly not sure how I would know it was, it looks like every other article on the site? Honest question, what is the topic of this article, so we can stay on topic? My understanding of it was Simmons tweet and between the tweet and him being an offensive liability it is time to let him go. I guess trying to add some reasons and dare I say logic possibly behind his tweet went too far. I will be done commenting on this thread because I guess it was never meant for comments, it was meant as a funny read?
-
Honestly super confused by your comment. So what is this article doing here? the article is about Simmons anti-vax stance, his tweet, him not being good enough to put up with it and sending him on his way. the 1st amendment is all the comments section, and many things on covid, anti-vax, who has the right to say what has been said. If the mods don't want the stuff that was talked about in the article talked about, move the article, but it sounds more like you are saying if you don't agree find with the premise, find someplace else to disagree? is that what you are saying? You quoted me more than once, and then decided to say find someplace else. So is this a better take? Simmons sucks, the Twins suck (this year) and the rest of the year should be spend auditioning the younger guys out, and his should be back balled from baseball due to his anti-vax stance.
-
So the article was about the tweet from yesterday correct? Not sure what April has to do with it? But if you want to bring up April, there was quite a bit still unknown in prior to April, then he ended up getting Covid, didn't need to be hospitalized, obviously didn't die and from what I read experienced “very mild” symptoms and now has natural immunity. I can understand where he is coming from (even if I disagree with him on his vaccine stance), he basically was saying I don't trust the vaccine, I trust my body and he didn't or doesn't fall into the high risk categories, and in his case he was right, many others say the same thing and have been completely wrong. Until as a country we are willing to see the other side and try to understand (don't have to agree with them) them instead of demonizing them (Both sides) we are never going to come together.
-
Not sure where I read the article but Ryan was saying the balls in the Olympics, were lighter and had better grip and that is what should be used here. I wonder if that will have any effect on him when he pitches here again?

For the record I am vaccinated. I went to my doctor and said I don't know if I have ever had covid, never tested positive. He said there have been studies (Cleveland Clinic is one) that if you have natural immunity the vaccination isn't more effective and since I have a family history of autoimmune disease (possibly side effect of the vaccine is triggering these) I should get tested to see if I have had it. He suggestion was if I had Covid not to get vaccinated because the side effects could be worse, I was tested and never had it and got the vaccine. Now onto Simmons, he has had Covid, so him not getting the shot is very understandable, seeing quite a few players, actors, politicians getting covid after getting the shot it is somewhat reasonable for him to say "doesn’t/didn’t really work", him saying "might get some side affects" is an absolute fact, there is no denying that. But when put all together it isn't a good message, the message should always be talk to your doctor and discuss what is best for you and your situation. Is it a reason to cut somebody, absolutely not, but it is 2021 and if people disagree with you, you never know what might happen. Edit: I will add anybody on here telling people to just get the vaccine without regards to their own situation can be just a damning.

If that is the case and I sure hope it is, the Twins are actually looking like they have an ace type pitcher, because he will be 20 in 23 and 21 in 24. No the odds of him making it to the majors as a 20 year old is very slim, because it will take three years just to get him up to the 100 innings mark

I like Winder, don't like that he has pitched 72 innings and the talk is he is tired or fatigued. He turns 25 in less than two months. How much do you take age into consideration for the rankings? Sadly if for some reason he would be done pitching for the year, it would be hard for me to consider him a top prospect since it is likely his age 25 season would also be about limiting innings, and wouldn't be until he is 26 that the expectations are he could go a whole season, seems very old for a prospect. Also Strotman turns 25 in less than a month, if he isn't up real soon, he also seems a little old for to be considered a top prospect, doesn't mean he won't be a good major league pitcher, IMO just means he isn't a top prospect. I guess one of the good things having your pitching prospects been on the old side is you probably never really have to pay them a ton of money, they will be 31 or older before they are due for free agency and it is super easy to explain why you aren't going to pay a boatload of money to a guy on the downside of their career.

Four Players the Twins Could Trade This Winter
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I completely agree, but if this FO decide they can't compete in 2022, I am out, done with the Twins. They told us they would bring sustained winning and starting over 6 or however long they have been here is not that, I can't stand Rocco as a manager but have put up with him since they have been pretty decent and winning divisions, I am willing to say 2021 is fluke and not the norm and sometimes seasons like this need to happen to refresh, replenish the old and/or stale. They have already lost my son, he has two Twins jerseys, Buxton and Berrios, he knows my favorite player of of the 90's and 2000's was Vlad, So he has kind of been paying attention to the Jays, and when Berrios got traded there. He said my new team in the Blue Jays, I want a Vlad, Berrios and Bichette Jersey, that was a sad day in our house.- 43 replies

Four Players the Twins Could Trade This Winter
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Most of this makes no sense IMO, unless they don't plan to ever really compete again. (because thinking 24/25 is the next window is too far away for fans and in baseball) So they trade Rogers and spend the money they save on lesser pitchers? Trade Donaldson with the only back up plan at third is a prospect with a career .771 OPS (he has been hot this year and I HOPE that continues) or Arraez who would be out of position, and opening up another hole that Arraez filled. Trade Buxton at lowest of low values, with no back up plan for a replacement. Kepler -"Trevor Larnach and Alex Kirilloff’s emergence in the outfield make Kepler more expendable. " Is this really true have Larnach and Kirilloff did so much this year that they make Kepler expendable? The idea of going into next year with a lineup of Sano, Polanco, Arraez, Miranda, Jeffers, Larnach, Kirilloff, and Gordon/Celestino and 10 rookies pitchers does nothing for me. Plus if you are going to do this why would you go out and sign top end starters or why would they sign here?- 43 replies

Not sure the 40 man roster will allow that to happen next, they are going to have remove some pitchers, and I don't think they can afford to put others on before they have to unless they are just so good they are forced to. (see other posts for the 40 man issues they are facing in the offseason and/or now.)
-
I think there could be some argument made for the first line over the second, based on the 2 2/3 more innings pitcher (I wouldn't agree with it but it could be made), but the third line doesn't even belong in the conversation, since they all started the same amount of games.
