  1. Half empty.........on the other hand, that would make the FO think we have turned the corner and things are going to be fine and won't consider making any changes.........half empty.........🤕 I am going to have to ponder this a while.......🤔
  2. Half full......half full.......got it. OK, Ryan wins today, and we sweep the White Sox next week and we're........well, still only 11-14, but on a roll! (half full......half full......) 🙄
  3. A question for minds much sharper than mine: how does one get a hold and the loss at the same time? 🤔 It is somewhat a rhetorical question, as I get the scorekeeping rules, but seriously, who dreams up these rules? 🙄
  4. Once again we get the quiet part said out loud; it is the system. It doesn't matter who the players are, they adapt to the system, the system doesn't adapt to the players, talent level be damned. But then, again, I can be educated.
  5. As much as I can sense the flak I will get for this, I will risk it and make two points. One, as others have so admirably stated, he is not a scapegoat. As they say, if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem, and he is NOT part of the solution. He has been living off of 2019 for far too long; since the beginning of the 2021 season, through yesterday, he is 326-340 if my public education arithmetic is correct; not a rousing success, and the reasons are multi fold. I won't rehash all those reasons here. Two, as I have argued in the past, the manager does too have influence over every aspect of the game, not just the lineup, or when to steal, when to pull a pitcher, etc. He has the decision making duty of virtually every at bat; when to pitch to a hitter or walk him, where to position his defense, yes, who is going to pitch to him, and even the pitch sequence, if he so desires. A decision not to do these things is, in and of itself, a decision he has made and choosing not to make these calls is every bit as much control over the game as micro managing. It is just a personal managing style. He does none of the things I have listed in this paragraph exceptionally well and it has shown far too often. Yes, the FO has to go; the whole leadership, upstairs and on the field, need to go. But if that were to happen, would you turn it over to the bench coach? Or would you let the new leadership pick the next manager? Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. 😉
  6. "Are the Twins using the wrong bullpen strategy?" Let's see........how can I put this........YES!
  7. Funny how this works: TD writes an article about Julien and his slight improvements and he promptly goes 3-5. They write an article about how the bullpen ranks and all of its warts and they promptly give up 6 runs in 4.1 innings (I know, one of them unearned). Is this spooky, or just irony? 🙃
  8. I genuinely hope you are right, Cody, that he is a "new man", but small sample or not, 4 singles and 2 doubles in 28 at bats doesn't make me do a double take. Again, I hope it is all good and true, but I have to say get back to me in May when we have seen more. I will definitely keep an open mind until then.
  9. I know, you can't prove a negative; hind sight is 20-20.......pick your favorite cliche. What it boils down to is this is who the man is. He is not going to change. He has a plan, a schedule, so to speak, and he is going to follow it. The FO seems to like it; the fans seem to hate it (count me in that group). Should we revisit the question as to why attendance is down? 🤔
  10. Call it perception, then, because I have been to both venues more than enough times to feel one way or the other. I and the original poster also addressed the other two teams. Maybe I am dumb, but if I am, there are a crap ton of dumb people on the east side of the river. 😉
  11. These are waters I rarely wade into, but I see elements of truth in each of these posts. Those who live west of the river and are familiar with the areas feel more comfortable there and downplay the reservations of the folks who are not comfortable there. Having lived east of the river my whole life I can say without hesitation that east of the river folks do, fairly or not, have a perception of areas of Mpls that are not good. And I agree that it is entirely about perception and what we have heard, but it may very well play a factor in attendance. As for the other teams, the Wild play in a very busy part of St. Paul, not Mpls, the Wolves play in an area of Mpls that even I am familiar with as well as a lot of others, and the Vikings play mostly Sunday day games. The Twins play most evening games that last until well after dark in a part of town that does not seem as well traveled later in the night, and everyone scatters in different directions, making some feel less than safe. Again, just perceptions, but perception can become reality when people believe it. But, as always, I can be educated. 🙂
  12. In my extremely humble opinion the team needs to do an advertising campaign blitz opening up to the fans honestly. Brag about the accomplishments, own up to the failures, and talk openly about the potential sale. They also need to bring in fresh faces into the FO and give them a mandate to be open with the fans; treat them as partners in this and not take them for granted. The fans want to support their team, but they need to know it matters. Of course I don't expect them to go public with details about the potential buyers finances, etc., but address the rumors as they come up and not let them fester until no one knows what to believe. Trust us, and we might start trusting you. Otherwise, what you see is your future and no potential buyer wants that future.
  13. The frustration for me is the constant comparison to the Central Division, and only the Central Division. If we are going to be satisfied to just compete in our division, getting to the playoffs and hoping for the best, then why watch the regular season? Just wait until Sept and see where they are; pay attention then, or wait until next Sept. It would be nice if we would attempt to compete with the AL. And, yes, I get we will never spend with the Yankees, Red Sox, and maybe the Angels, but I would hope we would look past our division when it comes to competing especially with fewer inter division games under the new scheduling. Maybe we would sell the 2 mil plus tickets they say they need to do that, because I seem to remember payroll is not the only thing we rank somewhere around 18th; we rank there in attendance as well. A coincidence? 🤔
  14. You don't have to beat around the bush; tell us just how bad it was. 🤭
  15. I don't mean for this to be considered off topic, but it reminds me of a debate going on today about paying college athletes; is it way past due and the athletes should have been getting paid all along, or is it destroying college athletics, one paper cut at a time until it bleeds to death. It is a debate that can't be won until hind sight gives us a crystal clear picture of the era. This is similar in my extremely humble opinion. Starters doing their job as baseball has always seen it in the past and relievers backing them up, or starters settling for 4 or 5 innings of all out effort and bullpens having to pitch 40-45% of the innings in a season. How does a good manager handle the workloads of each, and on and on and on. Again, it is a debate that will never be truly over until hindsight gives us that clear picture of the era. One of the prime areas of the debate is the role of the "long reliever" and what that even means anymore. Growing up, the long man was what Dobnak did in his game early on. 2 innings or just over that was nowhere near what a "long" reliever was, it was what ever a reliever was needed for that game. You had 10 man pitching staffs, and starters were expected to pitch their games. Now, I am told that was on another planet far, far away in the galaxy and cannot be considered in "today's" game. Today we have options, DFA, outright release, free agent signings.........sorry, I can't keep up with it all. We have 13 man staffs and can't keep them healthy even into May, needing pipelines from AAA all season just to get through a season, and if the AAA guys were good enough to be here, they wouldn't be in AAA........now I really can't keep up with it all. Now, I will be told everything I have been told over recent years, and I will roll my eyes, just as a lot of you all are rolling yours at me now. 😉 But, as I was saying, it is a debate that is great to have, but will never be won until hind sight wins it for us. As for today, the starters had better get their game together, or the overuse of the pen is going to be our downfall. But, as always, I could be wrong. As a matter of fact, I can still remember the time I was. 🤭
  16. Correct me if I am wrong, but he also pitched in an era when pitchers batted and I believe I remember him having a .185 lifetime average. And yet, he couldn't get into the HOF until he was what, 80? I will simply never understand that one. And, yes, I loved listening to him broadcast games; very few like him.
  17. I know it is early, but 5 games out of 7 scoring the dreaded 3 runs or less (and only one of those a 3). On the flip side, we have given up 5 or more runs in 5 out of the 7 (and the other 2 being the CWS). 🤒 Maybe we just weren't ready coming out of ST. I would like to think it is only that.
  18. Behind door #1 is a new owner. A shiny new suit, a new FO, and new blood. But you have to gamble on who the new folks are going to be. Will they be naughty, or nice? Choose at your own risk. 😉 Behind door #2 is a new owner........sort of. He/She/They may keep one or more of the old owners around to run things........sort of. You will never know who is really calling the shots, so you will never know who to be mad at or shake their hand. A tempting pick. Behind door #3 is........well, the MN Twins. Love em or hate em, what you saw is what you will see. So, lucky player, which door do you choose? 🤔
  19. How about taking a poll in TD as to how many of us are actually going to go to a game this year? That might be the ultimate indication of how we feel about the team. 🙄
  20. Wow, that was a lot to take in; thanks for the article Nick. I know the difference between good and great, but there is also a difference between good and, let's just say, pretty good. 84-78, which is what FanGraphs' is saying, to me is pretty good, but not good or great, hell, it is only 2 more wins than last years collapse. I think we have the potential to be good, even 88-90 wins good. Great? I know this is subjective, but to me 93 or 94 on up fits into the great category, and I don't see us there, although, as always, I can be educated. 😉 As for today, we have the potential to go 162-0, so until that is no longer possible I am going to dream. 🫠
  21. The day before the first game of the season you go and tell me my team has 26 question marks? Aww, why did you have to make me so nervous? 😳 (So, Cody, tomorrow write an article with the 26 answers, please??)
