Think about it this way: I am in school with 3 of my friends. In the 1st semester my one friend got a B+, two others got a B, and I got a C. 2nd semester comes and each one of us tries to do better, but my friend with the B+ drops to a B-, one friend with the B goes to a B+, the last one stays at a B, and I rise to a B-. I rose the most from where we all started, but should I be bragging? 😏 (My analogy is based on where we finished in the standings, and the belief that KC didn't drop as much as Projection Systems has them). 😉

Who knows what to expect out of Miami these days? This is the team that traded a quality pitcher for a batting champion, then a year plus later trades the batting champion for the always treasured "prospects", and now has neither the quality pitcher nor the batting champion, just the prospects. I guess that is how you go from a wild card team to a 100 game loss team in one quick season. We might be able to talk this team into something after all. 😏

I am not normally someone who likes the whole platoon thing and playing different positions every day. I prefer putting your best players at each position on the field and letting them play their game. Having said that, getting a veteran player who can give back up flexibility at both positions and a right handed bat to boot, I would be on board with that signing. My only question would be is he considered a good addition to the clubhouse, or not so much? That would be the only deal breaker for me.

Is the Minnesota Twins' Bullpen Philosophy Justified?
Mark G replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I concur completely when it comes to the starters going deeper and not relying on the pen as much as some teams do. I have always been a staunch believer in carrying a long reliever; someone who could relieve a starter who is getting thrashed and keep the ball until the 7th or 8th inning, saving the rest of the pen to fight another day. Or, as you said, get a back end starter with a rubber arm (not exactly the way you said it, was it?). 😉 -
While success and failure can be a matter of opinion, the one thing that is a verifiable fact out of all of it is they have been incredibly successful at underwhelming me. 😏 (But I did appreciate the history review, Greggory; thanks for a good article).

I know what you mean; every time I sing the praises of Luis Arraez I get told, in so many words, to get into the 21st century. If all you are going to give me is singles I don't even want 200 of them. 😉 Really, Richie TRG, I truly am sorry this time. 🤭

I am sorry, but this article was absolutely hilarious to someone (like me) who has advocated for old school baseball for, oh, I don't know, forever?? They are basically going back to the concept of situational hitting along side the occasional long ball when the pitcher makes a mistake.......why didn't I think of that? Wait a minute,,,,,,,,,,,,that's right...............I did! 😵

Congrats to the FO for beefing up the entire farm system! Wait, don't we have one more team to beef up? 🙄

Don't we hear this every year? Our guys are right where we want them to be going into spring training? I don't know, maybe it is just me, but all I am hearing from the FO is wolf. I hope they are right this time, and I am wrong, but for me the jury is still out. Get back to me in May.

3 Potential Twins Trades for the Padres' Dylan Cease
Mark G replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes he does hit into double plays periodically; it comes with putting the ball in play. Out of well over 1200 PA's I believe I will live with that. Overall, someone in MLB thinks he is worth something if his projected arbitration award would be in the neighborhood of 14 mil. And, yes, it is entirely possible it could be line out DP's or H and R attempts as well. By the way, the wise man was me (at least I think I invented that). 🤭 At the end of the day, I would give up a decent amount of capital for a guy who can give you 180-200 hits a year with incredibly few strike outs and puts the ball in play for all sorts of possibilities over someone who produces more extra base hits out of the hits he gets. I don't know, I guess I still value BA more than a lot of people do these days as well as putting the ball in play. I remember Molitor, who finished his career here, hit DH the entire time he was here. Give me Arraez in that role for a few years and let him hit. (Sounds like we agree on more than we disagree; thanks for the discourse).- 88 replies

3 Potential Twins Trades for the Padres' Dylan Cease
Mark G replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When 580 hits over the last 3 years is hollow, I don't recognize the game anymore. In those 3 years, yes, he has only walked 109 times; not much, I agree. He has also only struck out 108 times; I will take that ratio over any one in the Twins organization right now. As a wise man once said: put the ball in play and the worst that can happen is you are out. Don't put the ball in play (strike out) and the ONLY thing that can happen is you are out. I would give up extra for him.- 88 replies

Should Byron Buxton Fear the Swing Speed Aging Curve?
Mark G replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Does launch angle have anything to do with bat speed? There are times it appears almost like a golf swing; is it easier and/or faster to swing upward as opposed to a flatter swing? I am curious if that plays a role or not.- 19 replies

Twins history yes, franchise history no, and the franchise is what I was talking about. In any major league sport a franchise that has had only two family ownerships and one franchise move in about a century is very rare; my point was that it is impossible for me to pick any one year in its history as THE pivotal year. I don't separate the Twins from the franchise because the same owners owned the franchise in both areas; what they did in Washington naturally spilled over into MN after the move, just as everything the Pohlads have done will spill over onto whoever the new owners are going to be (or is that whomever? :) ) Anyway, I was only trying to say that I believe we are a rare commodity in sports, having had consistent, if not necessarily wonderful, ownership and a very lengthy run in MLB. Therefore I find it very hard to pick any one pivotal year, although as I said before, it is in my top 5. By the way, I am not anywhere near 26; I was 11 during the '65 World Series which is when I fell in love with baseball and the Twins. 🫠

You missed Dick Bremer. We have to keep the TV crew together, don't we? 🤭 Okay, seriously......I would go with Dr. Gast on this one; I would love to see Smalley join the group if he would have any actual say in the FO operation end of the business. Very sound baseball man. And keep Joe away from ownership; he does just fine as a team ambassador, so to speak, but other than that........ (I wouldn't object to Tori though, if he has the interest). Just my nickels worth. 🫠

We have had two families own the franchise going back to the early days in Washington. Both had well earned reputations as penny pinchers, but both gave us the occasional winner and kept the team going. With the exception of Carl P. wishing he could cash out through contraction, no threats of leaving have been seriously attempted since they moved here from Washington. Coming here from Washington, moving into the dome from Metropolitan stadium, changing ownership from the Griffiths to the Pohlads, moving across the city to Target Field, and now selling the team after 40 years to only the 3rd owner in, what, close to a century? There have been a lot of pivotal years in Twins history, this being right up there (in my top 5), but THE most pivotal? I think the jury is still out on that one. What might move the needle to the top of the list is what direction any new owner(s) take from here on out. Will it be just another business investment for a billionaire, or will it be something the owner(s) will truly be interested in and willing to put more into? The latter would be the needle mover to me. Let's hope Cody turns out to be right. 😉

Other articles rave about the potential of Festa, Matthews, and Raya waiting in the wings in AAA, and how that gives us needed depth and how we may be counting on them coming up sometime soon. So, it only makes sense to me that you bring the 3 AAA catchers up with them, right? They could all have their own personal catcher that they worked the most with last year. Just keep sending them up and down as package deals until they run out of options, then DFA them and sign some more guys on minor league contracts; after all, that is what we do best, isn't it? 🙃 Ok, seriously.......we would trade our proven major league catcher and replace him with a guy (guys) who hit .221 or .212 in the minors? The one guy who has any kind of hitting line down there isn't even a full time catcher? Not the kind of move (moves) a team that considers itself a serious contender makes. But, as always, I can be educated.

You are asking me to trust the group that allowed the A's to move to a minor league ball park in Sacramento until a stadium, if it is ever completed, will be in Las Vegas? MLB will clearly "let" ball clubs go where ever the next big payday is. I just worry about when that will be us if owners have no ties to MN. I am not saying it WILL happen, I am saying it gives me pause that it MAY happen.
-
I can't help but be a little apprehensive about out of town buyers swooping in and picking up the franchise. What guarantee do we have that they will keep the team here? Not saying it will happen in my lifetime, but it does give me pause. I was hoping for some home town folks to come to the ball (pun intended). I, for one, will stay tuned to this channel.
