  1. According to Matthew, we are playing the Orioles in the playoffs this weekend, 🤭
  2. Wow! Who knew? That makes me feel a whole lot brighter about the season. 🫠 Was that too much? 😉
  3. But the point was, would it have gone poorly for Zebby? If the point of pulling him was not facing the tough left handed hitter, just bypass him and go to the guy you should be able to get out. The whole not putting the go ahead run ( or winning run) on base is for the late innings, not the 5th. If you are only looking for match ups, that is just as valid a tool as changing pitchers that early.
  4. "If you trust everyone, do you really trust anyone?" That said it all for me. I have to go with Bigfork Twins Guy; the trust isn't in the players, it is in the system. The players are interchangeable; the system isn't. A player gets hurt, you call someone up. A player leaves in free agency, you sign a different free agent. But the system doesn't change. And it won't until the people behind the system are changed. As always, stay tuned to this site for further updates.
  5. I am curious as to how our schedule would be deemed the easiest. Detroit has a .500 team with nothing to play for and a 120 plus loss team that may be so demoralized by this weekend they don't appear likely to put up much of a fight. We have a 100 loss team as well, but one that is at least a theoretical threat and a playoff team looking to get right before next week. I know we are at home for all 6, but so is Detroit. Somehow I don't think our schedule is the easiest. But, as always, I can be educated. 😉
  6. Personally, I just enjoy the feeling that we are not the most inept kids on the block. 1-19 with RISP and 20 strikeouts can make any team look good in comparison. Thank you Sox! 🫠
  7. Exactly. Their top 4 guys are all under 2.00 ERA, and have all pitched 71 or more games. Clase is an absolute beast at the end; geez, the guy has given up 5 earned runs all year. We could definitely learn a lesson from them.
  8. I still believe we are going to make it in (by the hair of our chinny chin chin), but if this BP can't do the job in September, because they are running on fumes, what is going to be left in the tank come October? If we have so little faith in Thielbar and Blewett that we think Tonkin is the only option in an extra inning tie game..........you get my point. Lopez, Jax, and maybe SWR, Jax, Duran, Sands, and maybe Varland? Will that be enough to go anywhere deep? Anyone past them is a total crapshoot based on the recent past. Time will tell, I guess. Stay tuned to this broadcast for further updates.
  9. The bullpen chart is making me a little nervous; Jax, Duran, and Sands look a little spent. How much are they available today, if at all in come cases? Ober needs to go pretty deep to give them a rest. Or should I say Rocco needs to LET Ober go deep if he is going good.
  10. I still go back to Molitor's last 2 years here; how the FO was selling anyone of any value out from under him (especially his last year) and somehow he kept the team moving forward. He got the 2nd wild card spot in 2017 and finished 2018 with a 6 gave winning streak with less talent than the recent teams. That wasn't good enough, because this FO wanted just what you described; a middle manager. Rocco struggles as a game manager exactly for that reason. He is married to the overall season strategy and won't (or maybe can't, as in he is not allowed to) adjust as the situations call for. You are right, Matthew, he is a very good middle manager. As such, he will be here as long as the current FO is. I suspect it is their back sides on the line even more than Rocco's, although more than one FO has thrown the manager under the bus to save their own hide, but this FO believes too much in their system to hire anyone different. And as Rocco is a good middle manager, and a good foot soldier, he will very likely stay as long as Falvine does. Personally, I have never wanted a Rocco; not Rocco individually, just that type of manager. And I never will. But I have surrendered and laid down my verbal arms, so to speak, because I am in too much of a minority. What you see is what you get, folks. These 3 aren't going to change, because they don't want to and don't think they have to. Hope for the best, get used to not getting it, and just try to enjoy the game as much as you can. I hope I am off base, and, as always, I can be educated. 😉
  11. Simon Cowell always says "2 minutes can change your life". Maybe this is Helman's proverbial 2 minutes. I hope he makes the most of it.
  12. I agree completely. In looking at the box score one of the things that stuck out the most was the 4 stolen bases, including 3rd base as well. Was it Festa not holding them on, or was it Jeffers not making the throw? A little bit of both maybe? Either way, the word will get around the league pretty fast that you can run on this guy; we have to take a look at it. The 4 extra bases can come back to bight you more times than not.
  13. "5 Reasons Why the Twins’ Front Office Avoids Spending on Relief Pitchers" That is the premise we begin with; that the FO has at least these 5 reasons they avoid spending on RP's. And they probably are the reasons, but are they good reasons? Cody seems to think so, and I know he knows what he is talking about, but are ALL FIVE reasons good ones? As for me, I concur with 1, 2, and 4. But bargain hunting has gotten us where we are today. And pretending that your pen is interchangeable, and most, if not all of your guys can do the job when called upon, is a nice thought, but for most teams it just isn't realistic. See Twins pen. There has been an evolution of bullpen strategy, but primarily because starters do not pitch their games very often anymore and the pens are having to pitch somewhere in the neighborhood of 40% of the innings in a season. That being the case, I would think that putting your money into a solid bullpen would be a top priority. Come October we are going to have a battle of the bullpens in a number of games; I sure hope they prove me (and others) wrong.
  14. I know I have been unable to watch the Twins this season because I HAVE CABLE and can't get the channel so far.......😠 but I try to stay tuned through this site, the paper, and the Twins site. I thought I was still pretty much up to date. But somewhere along the line I missed a few things: where did the pen pick up Blewitt, Henriquez, and Boushley? For a follower of this team since 1965 I feel like Rip Van Winkel. How did I sleep through this bullpen shuffle? And with Duran sliding the way he has, how do I have faith that this group is going to pull us through the final 30 games? KC has a great set of starters and not so good of a pen. Cleveland doesn't have the best starting rotation, but has a pretty good pen. Where are we? Some good starters, some good relievers, and......... I predicted we would win the division based solely on the remaining schedules of the 3 of us. Can this pen get us there? Smarter people than me: what do you think?
  15. Let me see if I understand the premise: the question was is Rocco the best Twins manager of all time, and then he is only compared to the last 2 before the new regime (I can't really put Molly in there, as he split his time between the 2 regimes). So really the question we are being asked to answer is he the best Twins manager since 1986. Well, let's see..........Kelly won two World Series titles. Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember that those were the only 2 years we made the post season at all; we just won it all in an era when you only had to beat 2 teams to succeed. Gardy made the playoffs, what, 6 times in fewer years than Kelly. He didn't go the distance, so he is considered not as good. Kelly lost over 100 games more than he won, and he is in the Twins HOF. Gardy got fired for having some bad years at the end of his time here, despite the better winning percentage and more times in the playoffs. End of comparison. To compare Rocco with these two is more than a little premature, I would submit, only being in his 6th year. Get back to me in about 6 years and I will give you a more definitive answer. 😉 I also concur completely with Doctor Gast; Mr. Molitor was a far better manager than he was given credit for. Just take the last two years he was here: He managed to go 163 - 161 and make the playoffs once, even while the new FO was selling every person on his major league roster who had any value. He kept the team together despite their frustration at what was happening (he, by the way, also won manager of the year and got fired a year later, so I take no stock in manager of the year). And, yes, he could teach Rocco more than just a little bit about in game managing. Is Rocco the best as of today. Not just no, but HELL NO. But, again, we are being premature in how it may all turn out over time. Stay tuned........ So, did I answer your question? 😏
  16. I won't be in a position to watch the game tonight, but I sure would love to see Sonny pitch again. While he is not having the season he had last year, he is still pretty decent. Here's hoping we have a game plan for him. And having Pablo on the mound opposite him makes it even better.
  17. I, for one, think that Louie's future is as a reliever, but I can understand the reluctance to give up on him as a starter this young. That being said, he did provide a boost to the pen last fall, and if they are leaning toward this move, now would be the time to test it out and not wait for the post season. I am bold enough to say that, with the schedules that Cleveland and KC have the remainder of the season, the division is ours, so start to make plans for October now. And if we need a boost in the pen, Louie is as good a move as we have right now, so give him some innings with the club now and see if what we saw last year is there.
  18. After reading all of the math lessons we get to describe pitchers today, I don't see that much of an upgrade. And if he was "one of the top pen arms" Toronto had, I can see real quick why they have a 0.5% chance of making the playoffs. But, as always, I can be educated. 😉
