Right, but they need good players. Lawler had a .750 OPS last year and has a ton of team control. They aren't going to deal a somewhat promising young player for a pile of our castaways. The kind of proposal you're talking about - Ober or Larnach - is more likely to net you someone like Pavin Smith than Lawler. Think about it this way, prior to this year, if someone over at DBacksDaily had suggested Brooks Lee for Zac Gallen, how many straight minutes would you have laughed before eventually breathing enough to say "Oh, you were serious? No. Absolutely not" to the suggestion? -
He's also a genuinely hilarious dude. The day he retires some network is going to be wise enough to gobble him up as baseball's Charles Barkley/TNT type of guy.

Trade something inconsequential for Henry Davis and let the backup be a good defender with upside. I don't see any upside with Jackson and Caratini is a mostly hideous full-time option. I'd like to put the at-bats into something that may have some actual payoff, as remote as it might be.

Spoiler Alert: It has never been off. They set a price they wanted, didn't get it, pulled it back from the market and now they're trying to slap a fresh coat of paint and remodel the bathroom so they can put it back on the market. They never stopped intending to sell.

Right but throwing out suggestions that lack context or insight isn't helpful. I've seen several of your Lawler-based hypotheticals and those don't make any sense either. Trades have to work for both teams and have logical reasons for being done.

If you can find a deal for Larnach it will be with a team who has a similar situation with a player of their own and you swap depressed/limited assets. Maybe for a catcher, a 1B, or a reliever. If you can't find that...you let him go. Larnach was pretty bad most of the second half and settled into a guy you really would prefer hitting in the bottom third of your order AND who can't hit lefties AND who can't run AND who can't field AND who is mostly an OBP guy with no power. There's just no reason to clog your outfield with him.

Yeah, at the time I was able to swallow my pride and accept the pick for what it was. I had probably just given up hope that guys I actually liked would be picked.

O'Neill and Jefferson are practicing. Addison and Darrisaw are not. We just signed the husk of OBJ after spending the 102nd pick on Tai Felton. On the board at that time: Deone Walker (who might have led to a different pick in last year's 1st round), Cam Skattebo, Chimere Dike, Bhayshal Tuten, Woody Marks, and Billy Bowman. Woof.

Coby Mayo is a far more likely target and a better fit for this list than Burleson. The Cardinals have zero reason to deal him, his presence on this list feels severely out of place. Though I understand the weirdness of it, the Twins' mixed messaging has made it impossible to tell what to expect. I would caution this though, if you're dipping your toes in waters as optimistic as Burleson...you may want stop huffing the hopium before you get yourself hurt.

I'm not sure if this or the post it replied to are being sarcastic? We don't want anything to do with Ketel Marte. If you don't know why, the short version is he's a pretty bad teammate and not someone you want in your clubhouse. And no...Justin Martinez and Jordan Lawler aren't coming here for the dregs of our 26 man roster either.

I non-tender him unless we make some aggressive trades from our rotation. Then I bring him back just to give Rojas and others time to develop. But I don't see us trading Ryan and Lopez given the current direction ownership is pushing.

I mostly agree but I'm on the opposite side on Sands. Injuries derailed him last year but he had otherwise been ok to good for this team. The Twins are not so rich with bullpen assets that "ok to good" should get chopped for a few million bucks.

I too would be willing to sign with the Twins if the Yankees don't back up a dump truck full of money to my house. Vet minimum would be fine. Happy to get on-again, off-again waived as the third catcher if need be.
