  1. This seems like a strange plan. Didn't you declare the rebuild "complete" this offseason?
  2. Yes, if we want to use every young player's worst, and most recent, production to slam them - why in the blue hell did you bring up Rosario? That seems like a really bizarre set of rules you're playing with. His playing time really hasn't been. He was a productive first and second year player and then was basically banished his entire third season. Then he was bypassed for a FA that isn't panning out in his fourth season. He was basically given zero rope to capitalize on his potential the second he started to struggle. And, again, we could've cut any number of players with FAR less upside and didn't.
  3. Guess that should put to rest the idea that the Twins put him in the OF because he can't play third. That's it, I'm becoming a cricket fan!
  4. Why is his production from 2014 not relevant but you keep harping on his minor league numbers in 2015? You're playing fast and loose with what helps your argument. Has his production this year been great? No, he's clearly struggling with adjustments. It may not have helped that the team basically turned him into a bench player for half a season last year. But what's key is that this is NOT a separate discussion. You stated, at least twice, that the Twins gave him a "chance to succeed" and "make it right". Now you're suggesting you'd agree they probably didn't. Since when is how a team handles and develops a player not relevant to the player's production? Is that seriously the argument you're making? Arcia struggled to adjust - most young players do. What is different in his case was that the team prioritized Hunter over allowing him to continue to adjust to big league pitching. They prioritized Park over giving him a run. And now they prioritized Danny Santana and/or one of their 13 pitchers over him.
  5. Yeah, we're five pages into this and it's worth pointing out that Arcia also could have been retained if we had sent down the might Buddy Boshers or "Fill in one of the horde of nameless schmoes in our 13 man bullpen here"
  6. Correct. This isn't an either/or with Kepler, there are options for this team to play him.
  7. I agree, what happened last year is a head scratcher. There may be something behind the scenes, but didn't the kid earn some rope with the effort he clearly made to change his body and put in the work? I'd have liked, in a lost season like this, to see what he could do for a full season. Then make a decision.
  8. Same general manager. Did you not read my facts? From June to August in 2013 - a time period in which that wrist injury is not a factor - Clete Thomas had more at-bats. That's just a fact. Who is trying to spin something now Nick? This team chose Torii Hunter, Jason Kubel, and Clete Thomas over Arcia in the years after he put up a 100 OPS+ as a rookie and a 108 OPS+ as a second year player. That's just a fact. Sorry it doesn't work with your version of events. The only person who didn't get an option was Arcia. Despite earning one more than many other players have done and gotten more rope.
  9. Arcia had back to back solid seasons in 2013 and 2014. He showed signs of needing to improve on some things (his physical fitness, defense, pitch recognition) but nothing that many other young players have had happen for a very long time. But to change those things and become a better player - you have to actually have an opportunity. A sustained one to work through your struggles. We marched Dozier's pathetic bat out in top third of the lineup for two freaking months but Arcia rides pine after a bad couple games. Yeah, he may never amount to anything, but for the love of god don't defend the Twins' usage. It was ridiculous.
  10. This is demonstrably false and utterly preposterous. Yeah, Arcia didn't come up and light the world on fire, but shall we compare his 23 year old production to, say, Buxton? How about Park? How about Plouffe? Arcia was a solid player with good upside and yet he got less playing time than these guys: The team chose to give Clete freaking Thomas more at-bats than him. It chose Jason Kubel. It chose Danny Santana. At some point you have to question the decisions made for playing time. If those examples don't do that - where the hell is your bar for head-scratching decisions?
  11. I would agree, when the central characters were all in basically three places (The Wall, King's Landing, and Essos) it was a better show. But they tried to follow the books and the books just spun the story in too many directions. I think the clunkiness of this season (I would agree, it has been clunky) has been trying to weave too much together too quickly. But think of the alternative, if they had dragged everything that happened this season over two seasons, wouldn't you feel that to be a detriment as well? So I kind of blame the book's pacing for this more than anything. But the show didn't patch that problem well, I agree. Here is something to look forward to now: The Greyjoys, Tyrion, Dany are all in the same place. Jon, Sansa, Littlefinger, Sandor (likely), Arya (likely), Davos, and Melisendre are all in the same place. So a lot of those stories that were jumping around have converged. Also, are we setting up a scenario with 5 queens? Sansa, Elia Martell, Asha Greyjoy, Margaery Tyrell, and Dany joining forces at some point? That certainly seemed to be an underlying connection for the Greyjoy-Targ alliance.
  12. By the way - I can't recommend these videos enough. They are brilliantly done and highly informative and entertaining. And you can find them all on youtube.
  13. For me the tension came in just how much of Jon's forces were going to get slaughtered before the Vale arrived. They dragged it out for a long time. Plus - this show has only given us cruelty for so long I was resisting the urge my brain was giving me to expect the worst the entire time. I also thought about archers hitting the dragons, but i think there was a shock factor at work. The Starks established themselves through Bran the Builder. Winterfell was the most secure fortress in the North and he was known for his feats of architecture. They rallied allies to their cause through military victories over a very, very long period of time.
  14. We burned Arcia's options and only once did the kid get 400 PAs and even then it was barely 400. I get really annoyed with the mentality that players have to "force" or "earn" their way. You know how that has to happen? With actual, consistent playing time. That means through struggles as well, especially when you aren't competing. In his first year up (2013) he was getting less PAs than Clete Thomas from June-August. Clete Thomas. In 2014 guys like Kubel, Fuld, and Parmelee were stealing at-bats. In 2016 he's been relegated behind Danny Santana. If that's what the Twins or anyone else think is the right way to "give someone a chance" - I want those people nowhere near the decision making process.
  15. My wife and I also couldn't understand why Sansa wouldn't just tell Jon about the Vale. As for the Boltons and the Starks - the Boltons didn't have loyalty because they used cruelty rather than honor as the basis for their relationships. Who would you rather bend the knee to? Someone who may not be as smart, but is far more trustworthy or guys that will flay you at a moments notice? It's nice to see Mereen finally over. The dragons are in combat, Tyrion is acknowledged for his good advice, and she has the three greatest battle weapons in the known world at her command. (Khalasar, Unsullied, dragons) Very good stuff. I thought the battle was good and most of all - it was nice to see Sansa finally get a win.
  16. It was, but if they had called at the start of the off-season it would've been weeks before her due date. Not sure there was a "good" time.
  17. Again, you're going to have to cite something Dave.
  18. You also claimed we'd never care about missing out on Jake Arrieta either. Thing is, when you give up on upside - you have a tendency to get burned more often than you'd like. And this team has repeatedly failed to understand that concept for a long time.
  19. And that may be statistically significant, but chalking the overall numbers up to gun laws seems like a stretch with context.
  20. Call me crazy Dave...but it appears to mirror the rates across the country in general: http://thepublicintellectual.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Homicides-1900-2010-2.jpg
  21. He's got a career .785 OPS against righties, he absolutely could have worked in a platoon. I could at least understand his role last year as we were succeeding more than we expected. But this year? It's inexcusable that Santana drew more plate appearances than him.
  22. I guess I'm confused about your question then? A call in early November vs. early December doesn't seem to be all that different in this situation.
  23. Find a fun way to celebrate fellow dads! http://cdn7.viralscape.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/funny-dad-19.jpg
  24. Then we better see a concerted change in philosophy. We're about a month away from where we should first see that change. Are you brimming with confidence it'll be different? I know I'm ready to give credit to him if he unloads these guys, are you ready to join the voices of criticism if he doesn't?
  25. It's the same mentality that lead to this debacle. Sadly, I think TR might be doubling down just as that poster is on a flawed strategy.
