  1. I don't care how he accumulates his OPS (other than, hopefully, being less streaky), but I worry he profiles as a guy that will always have difficulty maintaining his production just because of how he has built his attack. For me, he can "Hulk Pull!" all he wants....as long as he does it more consistently.
  2. You're right, maybe we should all band together, march to Italy and Greece, and slap some damn sense into them. Germany has been the good guy in Europe for a long time now and they are getting very, very little from their efforts. Hell, they get mostly scorn, which is crazy to me. It might be an interesting way for both the right and the left in this country to see how their positions on socialism/wealth redistribution really works. There are a lot of assumptions at play that, so far, the EU is proving to be folly.
  3. I'm glad he's adjusted and is back to hitting. But doesn't his limited profile as a hitter (Hulk Pull!!) sort of make adjusting to him easier for pitchers?
  4. I believe this entire thread is a tease. The only "realistic" trade deadline moves for Terry Ryan can be summed up with the following word: None. (Possibly meh...I'm hoping for meh!)
  5. if they want cheap ones they should develop them better. We haven't signed, traded for, or developed much in relief help for a long, long time. Perkins is the exception, not the rule around here.
  6. But that was kind of your point, you doubled down on it 3-4 times by my count. You're right that there are bigger problems and a total system failure, but we can also pick that system apart and focus on the mistakes in each part of the system too. That's all this is.
  7. Exactly, it's not dissimilar to our politics, just playing out between countries rather than individuals. I like their idea of helping out countries that need it (wealth redistribution) but at some point the ones asking for help need to get their stuff together too.
  8. Oh I don't disagree, but here's the thing: we already know the groups the Democrats need to get out. We also know they struggle like hell to do it. (They're ramping up that rhetoric, which is smart) We don't know if they'll come out. Trump's nebulous numbers WILL. The question is how many are there.
  9. Exactly. The "swing vote" here is very nebulous and hard to pin down. As I expect it will be for Trump also.
  10. I read this article title as asked to me by this gentleman: http://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7p62kn73o1qjmv5yo1_500.gif
  11. I agree. Here's one thing to look at: On the surface it seems to back up what you're saying Brock, but if you dig a little deeper it's easy to see this swinging. The "safe" states give Dems a 190-142 edge, but look at the states that are counted here as leaning left: Iowa, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, Nevada - just if you flip those to Trump (not outlandish to happen in any way whatsoever) - the race suddenly becomes 280-258 Trump. If you don't like those states, you can probably swap Virginia and NC as potential Trump wins. It's really not that safe. And the people that will decide this election are likely not going to be counted until election day.
  12. Yup. The people voting for Trump are the same ones that voted for "leave" - they are the people that aren't counted in surveys, don't vote most of the time, etc. They are outside the normal process but they're rising up to participate for Trump/Leave. It's been happening the entire primary season. Provided he actually raises money and runs a real campaign, it isn't going to be a cake walk.
  13. I believe, in addition to free agents, you are also allowed to trade for bullpen help. Please correct me if I'm wrong....
  14. I get what Molitor is thinking "I'm going to try to win with what you give me the best way I know", but he needs to recognize the state of the team and the fact that players still have adjusting and developing to do in the big leagues. I don't know why sending Park is off the table for Ryan, that doesn't make any sense to me.
  15. Yup, nationalism is alive and well. Even if Trump goes down this time, don't think this trend is over. Both political extremes are feeding this growing beast.
  16. I have no problem dumpster diving for the back end of your bullpen. I have a problem dumpster diving for your 7th and 8th inning guys.
  17. I'd trade him, but only after I sold the hell out of Plouffe first. Nunez would be fine to keep around. Plouffe and Dozier are the ones that need to go.
  18. Baseball isn't a sport I sit down and devote 3-4 hours to. Only hockey and football get that distinction for me. Baseball I'll be tuned in, but it's something I'm not afraid to flip away from for long stretches. Pace of play just needs to improve drastically.
  19. I'm sure many readers agree that things are fine, but I think some objective perspective helps see that he created some major initial problems and he's struggled with the narrative since then.
  20. Yup, worst literary boss battle ever.
  21. Book 4 is where the Dark Tower also started to spin off the rails.....trilogies man, just stick with a trilogy!
  22. Hmmm, this isn't being widely reported. I mean, I hope this happens. But I also hope if he's just finishing his last chapter that the editor spends at least 6-8 months cleaning it up. The last two books eliminated any wiggle room he has on that front.
  23. Obviously a lot of my post was in jest, but I'm in total agreement. I don't think I've ever heard Ryan describe his actions as "making calls", it's always about whether or not they are receiving interest from others. It seems....passive. And the results over his tenure speak to the idea that this may not be an accident or something I'm reading too much into. We're at a place that calls for aggression. The 25 and 40 man rosters need active attention and remodeling. Pick up the phone Terry. Call.
  24. You know, I always hear this team talking about others calling them or not calling them. Do they realize that they can call other teams? That phones work in both directions? It'd explain a lot over the years. I grant, it's probably not a good theory. I imagine we knew this function of phones when we called Hughes' agent and offered an extension that probably made them start doing this on the floor: http://i.giftrunk.com/pyx244.gif But I'm not ready to rule it out yet. I'll revisit it on August 1st....that may help determine the veracity of my theory.
