  1. Right, a lot of people look at it as inefficient spending but the truth is that there are only so many ways to spend your revenues. Even if it's inefficient, you sorta have to do it.
  2. I don't think either author is wrong that spending in FA is fraught with peril. More often than not it's not a good use of resources. It's also necessary.
  3. Possibly....and hda this year gone as planned I'd be in on the idea. But we need to focus on selling, not buying.
  4. He's, by far, the best catcher in baseball for one. And with the position scarcity I can't imagine him being more valuable than now.
  5. It's also possible the Butler/Thibs combo is holding KAT and Wig back.
  6. Keeping Jimmy Butler seems like the first step towards screwing this whole thing up.
  7. Larger corporations, corporate farming. Bad decision making. Desperation. I thought this was a good piece to explain the mentaility. I'm not even saying that many people who fear the estate tax do so with valid cause, but it's out there. And people often don't understand just how valuable land it.
  8. I don't think it's that simple. There aren't many families that are farming that are doing well, even if their assets might be highly valued. For example, in south central MN all you have to have is about 800 acres to cross that threshold. That doesn't include building sites, equipment, or anything else. Farming 800-1500 acres is not what it once was. You might be surprised how little money a family farm operation makes even with that much acreage. Especially when you factor in health care costs for the aging farming population.
  9. Right, it felt like reading "Breitbart posts article about Hillary Clinton". I guess I wasn't shocked to hear his conclusion given the setup. I'm going to need a bit more than two city council races (one of which is in a pretty liberal part of Chicago) and a primary as evidence of his point. Most of that opinion piece was bluster and feel-goodisms. And again, before I get attacked for "cowing" - I'm all for a hard left pitch on healthcare. Make your policies hard left, but remember your messaging needs to reach a wider audience than that.
  10. Spot on. My father is still a farmer in southern Minnesota and I have several cousins who voted for Trump. Every one of them now say they regret the vote because, while they liked the estate tax roll back, the trade war is crushing them. They felt suckered by Trump and have turned on him. My father was a Hillary voter, but he says the tune on Trump has shifted dramatically. There is a huge opening there. You know what else a lot of rural Americans have to do? Pay for healthcare out of their own pocket, no employer subsidies. Healthcare and trade war and you can sweep the Midwest.
  11. I hope Rosario gets a spot, but good for Berrios. Man...Eddie has to beat Benentendi and Stanton? Oof.
  12. He might have also ignored more important issues like pitch recognition in favor of being old school and tough.
  13. I Maybe not, but those numbers indicate a growing trend of the under 40 generations abandoning organized religion. I think that will have political ramifications over time.
  14. Yeah, it's nothing special, but Gearrin is a semi-useful player and Jackson wouldn't be the worst fit for this team either. Bahr has plenty of reasons to roll the dice on him. I just wish the Twins were open to this sort of trade.
  15. The Rangers got an interesting prospect for taking on some salary dumps. Wishful thinking that the Twins could be in on that right?
  16. Quick....see what the price tag is for the #1 in the Orioles rotation! Then we'll have two aces! Where a dude lines up in your rotation is relative to the talent on your roster. The Yankees don't care where Gibson ranks in our rotation, they care about what he would add to their team on the field and how long he would add to it.
  17. Swihart's drop seems to coincide with his move to a utility player and the ankle injury he suffered. So I guess I'd be suspicious of his catching ability if the BoSox moved him off that position despite hitting pretty well up to that point.
  18. The Pew studies show 7% in 7 years, you don't consider that pretty rapid? And, to me, the most alarming stat was the baptisms. Cutting those by a third and half since 2000 indicates a major change that we may see bear out in the numbers down the road.
  19. Kyle Gibson’s trade value is 0% impacted by his ranking in our rotation. That ranking is utterly irrelevant to his value to anyone, including the Twins. What makes him valuable is team control and play on the field.
  20. Since I think there are political implications to this, I thought it was an interesting read. I was surprised the article didn't mention another potential culprit - rural communities in general are aging and dying.
  21. Milwaukee is also a place to target for Escobar. And they have some prospects the Twins may want to take a look at.
  22. Bobby Wilson has naked photos of a Pohlad. Only explanation.
  23. Not right/wrong, right/privilege. The left has eroded the word "right" into basically a synonym for "want" and that's all anyone hears now when they hear that word come from the left. "Healthcare is a right" might as well be "We want to give you free stuff" It's not fair that the opposition has painted it that way, but it's also reality. The only way to paint out of that corner is to stop the same messaging. That also includes ending the idea that only the rich and corporations will pay for universal healthcare. It has to be sold as everyone is paying in and then explain how everyone also benefits. You've spent several pages now attacking anyone who isn't as far left on you on things, while also saying "yeah! better messaging" - well sometimes better messaging won't sound as left-wing as you want it to be. We all want the same thing here - less power for the Republicans. It isn't "cowing" to expand your voting base in both directions. I think you should consider being less resistant to that idea.
