    Well said. I was really excited for a playoff season. This sucks. But it would suck more if we kept digging the hole deeper.

    0.7% chance. Some lottery tickets have better odds. There is fandom hope and then there is being silly. I would hope these two games pushed a few people out of silly territory.

    What you want is like buying a new house because you happened to find an envelope with ten thousand dollars in the gutter. Twice. Not exactly a sound basis for planning going forward. Root for them to win all you want, but you're hurting the team long term to clutch on to expiring players out of some delusion the team is in contention. Go get some controllable assets that can help you win for a long time.

    For those of us who saw that win streak for what it was (home cooking against historically bad teams) - this is a welcome sobering reality. This team is a seller and needs to be.

    This QO talk really doesn't make sense guys. Especially for Escobar. If you want to give him 18 million, you better do it over 2 or 3 years.

    My understanding was the tweets are 10 years old. And part of an edgy comedy run he had. Is there more to this? I just read Ted Cruz wants to prosecute him. Seems like the next logical step. First mobs then faux trials.

    The line between passion and zealotry is thin and we have left it far behind in social media mobbing. So pretending the severity of offense matters is pretty silly. Describe his comments any way you want, but some Breitbart troll destroying his career over it is stupid. And a troubling sign.

    Shaming, hypocrisy, self righteousness, stifling of opinion, demagoguery....these used to be the bastions of organized religions. Guess they have some competition now.

    I'm not saying it's right or that I do it personally....but I understand it. Nothing you said about the damage the right does is inaccurate from where I sit, but for many people they don't care. They'll look past that, because the alternative is to side with someone who says and does things that are mind-boggling. Again,not saying that's right. Just making a claim about what I think is a factor. Let me give an example....I know a guy who wanted to vote for Bernie the last election. He was all about Bernie. On policy, he is pretty hard left in what he believes. Highly anti-corporate, in favor of UBI, all about universal health care, wants to tax the wealthy, heavier regulation, good with gay marriage, etc. But his experience working with left-wing college kids has driven him to such degrees of irritation he started listening to Ben Shapiro and other right-wingers lately and has become more and more sympathetic to Trump voters. So, just like in the article, his policy beliefs have next to nothing to do with these new sentiments, but he just can't rationally deal with the obnoxiousness of some liberals that he's being driven away from voting with them. Yes, it's anecdotal. It's a bit more extreme than what I think is happening in many parts of rural America....but it's related. IMO.

    There wasn't much meat to that post and I'm not sure I agree with large chunks of it, but this is a point the left needs to think about: I think it is true that many rural whites agree with your policy positions more often than not. So what are you doing or saying to turn them so ardently against your political party? My personal belief? The Republicans can be disgusting, hateful, awful, hypocritical, and many other negative adjectives. But they got nothin' on how obnoxious the left can be. Especially to blue collar, hard working, common sense type people. Yes, it's a broad brush, but the left's ability to be insufferable is really something to behold. People can handle agreeing with a jerk, it's a lot harder with a persistent irritant.

    James Gunn now getting the same treatment. Having a Twitter account itself is a problem and what he said wasn't particularly funny....but my god people. Let's stop with the tarring and feathering for everyone who dared to be crass, stupid, failed at humor, or was just offensive. This is just ridiculous.

    I thoroughly dislike much of the product the NBA puts out, but there is no question they know how to appeal to young people. I guarantee you that if you polled ten year olds across the country you'd find a ratio of 10:1 on this question: Do you know more members of the Golden State Warriors or your local MLB team. 10:1 might be generous. Really, really generous. I might put that number closer to 50:1.

    The irony is that Escobar himself is precisely the kind of player you're opposed to us acquiring.

    It'd be nice if he spread out his binges a bit more so that it wasn't late July and we're still a far cry from .500. Make no mistake, he holds a great deal of blame in that. Counting on second half binges is dicey territory. Even dicier for a middle infielder into his 30s now. Maybe he goes Ruth the last few months, but it's too little too late for this team. And he's a bad investment going forward. I hope the Twins find good value in moving on.

    Hedges right-handed power might play well at TF. I know the power has dipped this year, but there have been signs of it. His defense has always gotten good reviews.

    The only thing that matters to players is what they feel butt-hurt about. And you know who controls if they feel butt-hurt? The player who is butt-hurt. Let's be real frank: The only jack-wad is the person stumbling around through life wanting to get butt-hurt by everyone else because their success came at their expense. For all the talk of "the right way" and about baseball being "soft" - I can't imagine anyone being more soft than a guy getting mad about a bat flip. So no, I don't care to even consider the difference between passion and jackwad. Why? Because once I've started doing that and self-policing their behavior and feelings, or defending those that do, we've already figured out who the real jack-wad in the room is.

    That Padres farm system is ridiculous at this point. At least in terms of top 100 specs.

    It's interesting, but he seems to draw a conclusion that doesn't quite match up with the context of campaigning. As I read it, he says once you're in power to embrace whatever policies you want, public opinion be damned. I think he's probably right about that. However, when you're campaigning, the story is a little different. Even in his article he shows how being viewed as "extreme" has devastating effects on results. It seems to me his point is a good call for action once majority power is achieved, but not the best advice on the road to achieving that power. I did like the sections about how irrelevant policy really is to your average voter. Between that and the Ezra Klein article he linked to, it speaks to how all-important it is that people perceive you as the solution, even if you offer nothing in the way of actual solutions.

    Seems like a soft return for Machado. That's a bit discouraging.

    Quoting stupid and offensive rap lyrics is one thing, but the context is important and you're giving him a pass on basically being a despicable person for awhile. He chose those lyrics as a reflection of the kind of thinking he had. He doesn't have to be forever judged, but I hope (some day) others realize just how short-sighted it is to post every obnoxious thought you have to social media.

    I'm not sure why cutting a reliever has anything to do with their interest in starters.

    Those are not mutually exclusive. The prior achievements took place before health issues took over. We're in 2018, if you have a time machine to bring us 2009 Joe Mauer to the present day, then all of that would be helpful and relevant. (And pretty awesome, though I'd probably use the time machine for better purposes. Probably)
