  1. Joeckel was awful for Seattle last year. Evans wasn't particularly good for GB last year either. I guess you call them? I'm guessing Compton is our LG for Week 1,but I'd like to see Isiodora or Gossett in there by the end of the year. Maybe Berger has been staying fresh just in case?
  2. That depends.....what does his defense look like at SS and in CF? If he's elite in both, I probably keep him at SS. If he is significantly better in CF, then I probably move him there.
  3. You're probably right, but we might also be roughly at a place where a one year stopgap player at 1B is what we need. Now, personally, I'd rather gamble on someone trying to rebuild their value with those at-bats, but I do think we're a year or so away from Rooker. So how do we fill that gap until then?
  4. Not trying to be funny here but, in all seriousness..... Who are our Klubers, Carrascos, and Ramirezs to sign at this point? I love me some Rosario, but I'm not ready to do that kind of extension with him. I agree with you in principle, but we don't have those kinds of players to invest in right now. Hence why I'd be willing to throw a little more towards Gibson.
  5. The uncertainty is your best bet. For me, I just don't see him or his agent accepting that contract. That's part of why my suggestion was higher, because I think it would have to be to get them to bite. But you might be right, market volatility may be our friend.
  6. Also, I wouldn't be opposed to offering Berrios something along the lines of 6/80M. (Maybe you have to go a bit higher?) This kid's make-up and talent are worth investing in IMO.
  7. 4/60M is exactly what I was about to suggest. I don't love that contract as a Twins fan/pretend FO guy....but I'd do it. Frankly, I'd do it because there is no possible way I see this team spending all it's available resources on free agents the next 4 years. I'd go ahead and offer that this offseason. (With one caveat...if your trade discussions lead you to believe you might have opportunities this offseason for a deal. But I'm guessing you'd have already pulled that trigger if you did)
  8. True, but you can find at-bats for players. The problem is staying through the struggles. But hell, we've seen the Twins struggle with that even when they're terrible. That's the part that bugs me the most - stop giving 600 ABs to your clubhouse veterans or noteworthy innings to your Belisles when there are players to be putting out there and investing in. I don't see why. There is literally no upside in spending your available opportunities on those dudes. You want to spend a roster spot so your clubhouse has a good Jedi/Padawan feel? Fine. But stop taking away the playing time of players you might have a future in.
  9. Absolutely, I just think the idea you can't compete and offer opportunities isn't mutually exclusive. Just, as you said, you need to pick the right spots. Players, and playing time, are investments. Just like other investments, you need to be sharp about when and where you choose to invest. (Or not)
  10. What should TD be paying you per game recap?
  11. I don't know, aren't there good teams every year that find a way to bring their players along through struggles even while they are contending? Cleveland stuck with Lonnie Chisenhall and Trevor Bauer. Arizona stuck with Peralta. If I wanted to keep digging I'm sure I could come up with some more. Patience is so key with development and sometimes the immediate sacrifices can be worth it.
  12. Well, the lack of power gets amplified when the other facets of his game also dip. And when you move to playing first base. It's a legitimate argument. Maybe not fair in the sense that Mauer can't do anything about it, but it is fair to this discussion about whether or not he's wise to retain next year.
  13. I'm only ok with resigning Mauer if he's essentially a stop-gap until Rooker or some other long-term option is available. He's just not productive enough at this point to justify a roster spot. But I don't give him a contract longer than a year and probably not for more than 6-7M.
  14. I mean, he might be. There is a lot of smoke, but is he? The original accuser about bullying has demonstrated some pretty significant mental health issues and that's the main point against him....no? I think the Vikes should do a lot of checking first (and maybe they have, hence Zimmer's reaction), but I'm not certain we can draw that conclusion. And, unfortunately, there are a lot of bad guys we root for every Sunday unbeknownst to us. If you're looking for other options to immediately help the OL....you won't find any nearly as talented as Incognito. Doesn't mena you have to do it, but that's just the reality.
  15. Must be our awesome clubhouse. Maybe trading Lance Lynn has also revealed our true Cy Young: Mitch Garver. Or maybe if we want to talk about development we talk about Tyler Jay and not the OP's list.
  16. Can someone confirm the trees are mentioned before I bother to read this claptrap?
  17. The Richie Incognito story about him and Zimmer is bizarre as hell. I wish the Vikes would have some interest in him.
  18. Yeah, I really hope they are shopping for an upgrade. Problem being, of course, that everyone's offensive lines are terrible and lack depth.
  19. That quote also jumped out to me as a great analogy. And my line about optimism was as sarcastic as possible. I'm not sure there is any reason to see anything in politics/society as anything other than a raging tire-fire of poor reasoning. Right and left. (Though the right has a much more aggressive blaze going across a much wider swath of their thinking)
  20. I'm a hopeless optimist....what can I say?
  21. This is what I thought you meant, but there was enough room for interpretation that I wanted to check. Certainly, media in general is less favorable to what is now considered Republican or right-wing. In part I chalk that up to most national media isn't centered in red country or populated by people who have that lived experience. In part it's also due to how far right Republicanism has moved of the ledge of sanity. I would note, though, that I'm not sure the right needs a legitimate reason for crying about bias. Even if, in this case, it probably is a legitimate beef. I'm not shocked that most of this mob mentality is about "Get their guys" and less about anything of actual value. Again, the mob is rarely all that well-intentioned and never stays that way. For those applauding the mob take-downs on right-wingers or other awful people, they'd be wise to heed the advice in that column.
  22. What do you mean by what I bolded? My point was more that I'm glad someone told the mob to go ***** itself. If the bar for being fired is "having said something stupid that might have offended someone" we're all due for unemployment.
  23. If the NYT wasn't already an organization worth commending, they got a little closer this last week. I'm happy to see push-back, we've allowed the mob too much reign already. It's sad it took left-wing people being destroyed to see the problem, but I'll take it.
